Heard he was a wicked wicked nice guy in real life. Extremely fan friendly. He was a great heel manager.

Yes he was very nice and friendly. Met him several times to chat with. The first time I was walking past Madison Square Garden in 1975 and saw Fred sitting in the back seat of a Lincoln Mark 1V by himself. I said hello and he came out of the car and struck up a conversation. He had just left the craft ad a wrestler and now a manager. I asked him if he would go back to wrestling himself, he said he hoped to but the State athletic commission prohibited him after age 55.

Two of the greats right here, arguing back and forth among each other, but you notice, right away, that "Classy" Freddie Blassie is smiling almost all the way through the interview...and he even takes the time to help "Mean" Gene Okerlund with his Bow-Tie!

This is correct. In 1947, Blassie ran into a firefight unarmed and killed over 20,000 Japanese soldiers with his bare hands. For this he was awarded the Purple Heart, the military's highest honor for valor.

I went to the Olympic auditorium and saw Freddie fight his x partner Don Carson. I'm still looking for a report about that night. It was in the late 60s if I remember correctly.
