FRANCESINHA Tour in PORTO, Portugal!!
Today we honor Porto's favorite "sandwich" the francesinha! The hearty dish consists of layers of meats and cheese covered in a beer sauce! First we try one at Café Santiago, probably the most popular place in Porto to have this dish, usually with long lines out the door and buzzing with tourists and locals alike. Next we go to the restaurant where the dish was invented in the 1950s! - A Regaleira. Join us in experiencing this quintessential Porto dish at these two legendary restaurants!!

With a more scientific approach to their francesinha style, this is restaurant many folks will refer you to. You will find tourists and locals packed in this Porto staple café, buzzing with energy. They also offer different variations of the sandwich; for example a cachorro (hot dog) version.

This is the original birthplace of the francesinha. On a quiet street warmed by the sunshine, you can sit outside and taste a piece of Portuguese history by enjoying the original francesinha recipe created in 1952. Fun fact: A Regaleira closed its original location in 2018 when the building was sold to new ownership. In 2021, the restaurant reopened just a couple doors down from the original location! Today it continues to be operated by the founding family, remaining true to their culinary traditions.

Santiago isn’t the best choice. They pay publicity for touristic purposes… Ask locals, “tripeiros” like myself! Prosit!❤
I'm from Porto. This francesinha is very dry and the cheese is not very melted. I know places where they are better - for my taste essa bem se poderia chamar americaninha - em tua honra. REGALEIRA : 50 years ago, the sauce was very spicy. your mouth would burn until you saw stars

That francesinha sauce looks terrible . There are much better ones in Porto.
