I’ve worked in a prison. Women fall for it. All. The. Time. There’s inmates with 3-5 different women writing to them, thinking they’re exclusively dating. The women send them money and try to work on their legal cases. It’s CRAZY what these diagnosed psychopaths get away with manipulating women… Oh and inmates aren’t given internet or cellphones, but they’re smuggled in by dirty staff and visitors all the time.

She seems to accept this is the best she can do, she never mentioned a successful long term relationship, just being a martyr and dutiful daughter basically. She may not have great prospects in the real world so this could feel “safer”. Especially if she’s trauma bonded or codependent to this guy thru everything she’s dealing with. He’s a project, she’s in position of savior and martyr again, and he needs her - also she may think he can’t really cheat or leave her while in prison. Also these guys can be master manipulators, love bombers, future fakers so there’s that. Could be love or it could be him using her for commissary, companionship and financing this expensive appeal 😒 It’s SUPER sad but I love how John addressed it, knowing that sometimes we have to just let folks make their mistakes

Why do women make such a big deal about wanting to have children, not everyone should or can't, but can't accept that dreams are unrealistic. Instead of taking responsibility for bad decisions, they justify them. Be happy for yourself and live your life and quit having an unrealistic life that everyone has. This is so incredibly true. I had a boyfriend who was an addict,(though at the time i was also.i just didnt lie to others or do anything to anyone else in order to get my fix) Anyways i worked across the street at a dairy farm, milking cows. While working one night, he came running over, no shoes on, out of breath, saying someone had broken in and had a board for a weapon. I was so freaked out, I ultimately end f up knocking on the boss's door , talking to his wife, using her phone to call 911. I was not there. I was at work. when they pulled in they asked if they could take a look around the perimiter. I said yes. So didn't they end up going inside, seeing paraphernalia and charging me with that. I never gave permission to go inside but I see now life doesn't work like that. I was very frightened after that. I lived alone, you know? Anyways all this to say, i ended up having serious doubts and questions as to whether it even happened. I have come to terms with the fact that it was all more than likely an elaborate lie, that he created and I don't know entirely what his pay off was, I know he asked his dad for help with money to get locks. I'm sure he got far more money than I knew. It was extremely upsetting to think the person I loved would not online deceive me, but take away my sense of safety and security in my own home. So... I feel that quote.

It still didn’t really hit me fully until I sat down with his lawyer and saw the evidence and arrested statements. I picked up divorce papers the next day. I hadn’t been married long, but it was still very traumatic and haunts me. I’m remarried now and have two beautiful children, I never could have had that with my ex. I feel for her. I was the same way, expected to meet Mr Right in my 20s and have a kid or two. By 30 I’d had some failed relationships and was so tired of dating and the whole thing. I didn’t want to be single forever and that sadness is SO hard. And it can make you do stupid things. Like trying to tell yourself that a convicted child abuser is really a nice guy and would be a great father. 😮 So as lonely as it was, I just kept living my life. Then at 33, I very randomly met Mr. Right. Got engaged 4 months after we met, and got married 10 months later. Both our families were shocked as to how similar we are. I’m 51 now, marriage got rough sometimes but we still love each other. I wasn’t able to have kids and that about crushed me. I even told my husband he should leave me and get with someone who could have his kid. He knew I was insane at the time and assured me that was never gonna happen. So yeah, life didn’t turn out like I thought, but it’s still pretty dang good. Hang in there.

First I can empathize as a childless, never married 38 year old woman. I know what it feels like to do "everything right", stay slim, volunteer, be involved in church etc....and still not meet anyone who is compatible at church, at work, on dating apps etc... HOWEVER, I realized around 32/33 that my life is NOW. And I'd rather be single, ambitious, joyfully serve God and others, and live a fun life than lower my standards to hades just to have someone. Being a wife and mother is not where my value lies. Being a child of God and walking with integrity is all I ever need. Singleness can be lonely at times, but I am beyond thankful that God has given me grace when I had desperate moments to not choose a toxic or deadend relationship. He's given me a great family and friends, whom I have more time to pour into because I'm single. I hope this lady shakes herself and wakes up, because life is not a game where if we accumulate enough points we are rewarded with whatever we want. Life itself is the reward.

She chose this relationship out of desperation, and she’s not open to changing her mind because accepting that reality will be devastating for her. He was wise to not judge her choices openly (though he did comment on it), but encourage her that she has to accept what comes with her choices, which is true, whether she was making an amazing decision, or a poor decision, such as this one. Now she won’t see this advice as an argument, and as she follows it, she will naturally have to ask herself honestly, if she is OK with this, and she will convince herself instead of John trying to argue with her.

I think she's blinded by how this guy made her feel...from prison, lol. I don't know how she can be so convinced of his innocence, when after 6 years of fighting, he still hasn't been freed, but child abuse is as disturbing as it gets, even more so than certain types of homocide, which can be the result of an accident or self-defence or provocation. I question how suited to motherhood she is, given that she's willing to take a risk on such a man.

Dr. John handled this call well. She's got some very serious self esteem issues that have led her down a path of fighting for a man in prison (whether he is guilty or not is not the point) for 6 years to turn up empty handed. She can still fight for him and if he is truly innocent, I hope she keeps fighting for him. But she doesn't have to put her life on hold for that either. That was a choice she made thinking she'll end up with a fairytale and that didn't work out. Look, life is all about choices. If I could go back 6 years and start trying to have a baby I would, but those were choices I (and my husband) made when we did. She needs to work on giving Megan room to heal, grieve, grow, and love herself first. She owes that to herself.

IT NOT TOO LATE!. It may hurt to let go but once you become intentional about what you want and going after it you will be surprised. 38yo is not the end, loosing a child is not the end, letting go of a 6 yr relationship is not the end. Many women find love and have children after 38yo you have to decide.

The part that really gets me about this caller is that she tells gerself that she has "done everything right" she will never stop feeling like the world hasnt served her adequately until she accepts that she has made her choices, maybe because thats what she BELIEVED was the right thing to do, but its likely a justification as to why we do things rather than the reason itself.

Grieving choices traps us in the past. But taking ownership sets us free. I CHOSE to marry my spouse. I CHOSE to stay with him. I CHOSE to stand up for what I believe is right. I CHOSE my consequences, my life. And I can choose the direction I decide to head in now. Choosing and accepting the losses and gains is calming, and makes life ok.
