As a Vietnam Vet, this song carried me through that hell hole and brought me back home. I served with some of the best men and women I ever had the pleasure of serving with, and some didn't come back. It warms my heart that youngsters listen and react to these awesome songs. Keep up the good work and have you reacted to another one of my favorite bands, Rage Against the Machine?

Not only do I agree with what you say, and I know it may be a bit of a cliche at this point, but I sincerely mean it, and I was against the war ultimately but then again I was just a little kid and I saw so many people from a neighborhood get destroyed by that experience, but I deeply thank you for your service.

CCR is one of those bands, that wrote one masterpiece after another, the whole feel of their music is powerful, emotional and real. These guys still had a message in their songs, a strong message at that. I've been listening to them from.. late 70's early 80's on (so yes, i too was late to the party) and never looked back, they been a part of my childhood, puberty, early adulthood, and they still get frequently played in my house, they never get boring to me because their songwriting is just... magnificent. They wrote the sound track to the Vietnam war, years before Hollywood decided they made good music to use in Vietnam war movies. And this song is one of the most iconic Anti-war songs ever made, maybe even THE most iconic, you hear this (i do anyway) and in your mind's eye, you see Helicopters, men in boots, dragging through the thick mud and dark jungles, during monsoon season, in the darkness, trying to survive. These were the unfortunate son's, the young men who got drafted to fight the war, while the rich parents of "fortunate son's" made sure their kids could not get drafted. (this song is about those people) Wars are always fought by the "normal people, the poor, the lower income class" to benefit the rich, who do NOT send their kids to fight in the wars they crave. Thnx for uploading guys, loved every bit of it :D

CCR definitely loves their formula, short and sweet, with a message. Their music appealed to a very wide demographic, wider than the Beatles, some said, and they rode that formula to a great success until their bitter 1972 breakup.Their rhythms are smooth, happy and predictable. Their messages vary from the exposition of Cajun culture to political themes, drugs and of course, the war in Vietnam. For the veterans, top 40 songs like these became the soundtrack of their wartime memories. You can't see a movie about Vietnam without hearing some CCR.

The year I graduated from high school, the boys in my class, who had to apply to the draft upon turning 18, got their draft numbers, yet, thankfully, soon learned that the war was ending, and they would not be called to active duty. Throughout middle school and high school we would learn of the boys from our town who were killed in Viet Nam. There are many great, absolutely bangin' anti-war songs from the 60s thru the early 70s, and this is one of my favorites!

Hi guys. So, this song was written during the era of the Vietnam war. The references to not being a senator’s son or people being born with a silver spoon in their hand, spoke to those of privilege who could advocate for favor within their circles, an option not available to others in that generation. This was especially true when it came to the draft, and being sent off to war. In essence, this was a form of protest.

John Fogerty was a hit writing machine in the late 60's and early 70's. Everyone covered his songs, like "Proud Mary", and "Heard it Through the Grapevine". His sons have even started they're own band, with dad on background vocals and rhythm guitar. Shame he and his own brother (the drummer for CCR) had a falling out, and never reconciled before his death. They defined the sound of the boomer generation, and the Vietnam war era. Timeless.

A lot of CCR songs have that kind of monotonal quality: Run Through The Jungle, Green River, this one...you’re right. They don’t go far from the main chord structure. Up Around The Bend, however, DOES have a snappy beat, crescendos, and a banging guitar riff. Peace, guys!

CCR was back porch band. The antithesis of a stadium anthem band. Their music was broadsheets of clear eyed truth in the midst of Vietnam, the Yippies, the hippies, Black Panthers, LSD, and a dozen other events swirling around the youth of the day. It was simple, complex, humorous, intelligent, awesome and it was beautiful!

Thanks for another trip down memory lane guys! My older brother (a Vietnam Veteran) was a diehard country fan and wouldn't listen to any rock music. This made it a drag to try to hang out with him. I played this song for him one day and made him pay attention to the lyrics. We finally found music we could share. He has been gone almost 30 years and I still think of that day whenever I hear this song. Other CCR tracks I really like include: Down on the Corner, Run Through the Jungle, Up Around the Bend and Lookin Out My Back Door. I'll repeat what I've said here before, I really enjoy watching you young guys enjoying the soundtrack of my youth. Thank You!! Keep on Rockin fellas!!!

When you listen to this today you are getting better sound fidelity. Back in the day we listened to this on AM radios. So all songs kinda had that flatness or dullness. We didn’t notice. We just prayed that dad didn’t drive under a bridge in the middle of a song. Songs had to be like under 3 minutes or they wouldn’t get played on the radio. This one talks about guys not wanting to go to Vietnam to fight someone else’s war.

I grew up watching Vietnam nightly on the news, with riots in the streets and the rise of hippie culture gradually influencing society that still permeates to this day; just look to the regressive left for the obvious ramifications. While I was too young to go to war, I still felt the fear and tension of the times that always bubbled away just below the surface, and whenever I hear any of these "60's soundtrack" songs I'm right back in the times, with the uncertainty and the images of helicopters and jungle greens flickering on my TV screen. It was the best of times and the worst of times. Excellent video as always.

I remember when my older sister brought Cosmos Factory home one day....fell in love eith that album! You had the British invasion going on at the time, so it was really refreshing to hear a band like CCR pump out the hits. Felt the same way about the Doobie Brothers....loved the British material, but it was nice to have bands like this around. Fogarty's vocals -man alive! Green River probably my favorite. Glad you guys enjoyed it!
