Moving the capital to Chongqing is the most horrifying thing I ever heard. The KMT moved their capital there after the fall of Nanjing because it was basically impossible to get into. It's surrounded by mountains on all sides with only a few narrow passes into neighboring Shaanxi, and the way up the Yangtze River goes through a narrow gorge and rapids that weren't made passable for ships until they built the Three Gorges Dam. The area within the mountains is a tropical jungle with a perpetually overcast sky, and most of the western part of the province was so undeveloped that it was still governed by _tusi_ - autonomous ethnic reserves that the Chinese set up in places which couldn't attract enough Han settlers to turn into regular districts.

Hey Ludi, I was doing a Japan game, and found an exploit to get republic by the 1840’s. Essentially I was trying to rush reform when I got the event where a leader becomes a radical, and because the only upset faction was the shogunate, the leader of the shogunate became a radical, allowing me to enact reform insanely fast

As the Qing I really like getting the suez. Its a pretty good springboard for getting involved in Europe more, also I tend to find Egypt loves to join CU if you do. I also like to take Russias far eastern areas, mainly aiming for their gold mines. If you just hold your front line, you can navally invade their far eastern territories which never have any soldiers defending them and you basically take about 3 states, then it joins your main front which you can comfortably hold. It's also pretty easy to secure Alaska too. Doing all that makes your minting HUGE - you basically can run your constriction centers off the sheer amount of gold you are churning out, SOL also ends up being super high in Alaska wit little effort too so you get a lot of migration attraction. Also instead of going for Africa, I like focusing on Indonesia and Indochina as a pan-asian roleplay. I was once able to get the Dutch to transfer me the entire east indies just by helping them put down a revolt... in the east indies... because I was initially supporting the revolt and they were so scared they were going to lose. Indonesia and Indochina basically acts as a huge coffee and sugar plantation for me before rubber is discoverable, the mass off sugar can make food industries run really cheaply which is good as it makes high quality food cheap for everyone and the coffee remains cheap as a luxury good for the higher stratas. Then once rubber starts being grown, you basically have a monopoly on all rubber and end up seriously rich off of it and can make elastic clothes, the best tools, electronics and automobiles without suffering shortages.

The update introducing the local pricing mechanic made the game harder all around local prices are your real prices and have the biggest impact on prices within a state specially in the early game.

I hope im not the only one that likes sitting back as qing and watching the map sometimes

Russia controls the single state which is a homeland to one of the primary cultures (Manchu). While Kokkand occupies a part of the state in the northern half. And really, any East or North Asian homelands can be served as the targets for expansion (plus Vietnam too)

One warning to people, assuming this wasn't fully rebalanced, in high pop provinces developing agriculture can quickly cause mass unemployment problems because the rice subsistence farms hold double pop of normal substinenancr farms and even that's barely enough for the pop there. So if you don't have non-agriculture jobs there you'll very quickly start having mass population wealth drop.

Great video as always! A Brazil playthrough would be cool, to see the new jornal entries and play with how they work.

The only resource Qing will need is rubber, so I like to start by conquering mainland SEA. Vietnamese is accepted at the start of the game, so they make for good states. The rest of them take 20 years to state, multiculturism, and either FoC/TS/conversion, so its a bit debatable over whether they're worth stating. Japan is a good target once you've mopped up the various SEAzns. They're accepted at the start of the game, but you'll need to build a modest navy and army to navally invade them. Japan will typically have irregulars at any point in the game so they're pretty easy once you have a navy. Siberia is a pretty good target once you've taken out the unrecs. Qing can state Siberia quickly because Manchu has North Asian Heritage, for some reason. The states have low pops but good rescources, so you can just flood them with your 500m pops.

23:35 The Lanfang Republic are neither colonist nor pirate... they are a mining company formed by Chinese miners that were hired by the local sultan to work there. They are not Qing runaway neither considering that they are only taken over by the Dutch when the Qing weakened.

I just did a similar game for the first 10 years, and if you use your fleets you can naval land macao and singapore right as the war starts, which kicks their soldiers back to europe. they'll come back for a naval landing or two, but i just dumped soldiers and 5 star generals on the shoreline until they were willing to give in for macao and recognition.

Last time i played, since they change the ban opium under the journal instead of the decisions i was not unban opium ever since the journal event was now gone and thats the only place it seems to unban opium.

Honestly, your comment on all the terrain modifier bonuses is what I feel like is one quality of life thing that Victoria 3 is missing. So much of the world is ignored when it comes to modifiers despite so much out there. I feel like it would make the game a great deal better if they were filled out.

There is a minor fact not many ppl take into account. The interests that you pay you pay it to your pops that owns buildings in your country. It icreases their SoL and they spend major part of that extra income on consumption but aslo reinvest a part into investment pool. It may be not so good thing at the start when most of owners are aristocrats, but those money are not waste, unlike uncollected taxes, which seems to be taking from pops and then just burned somewhere...

yeah I think the unrealized taxes system is stupid. If the taxes can't be collected that's fine, but then all that money should stay with the pops and increase their standard of living. Maybe it's meant to represent corruption?

Oh. So instead of a direct infrastructure-to-market-access -pipeline the new patch has this MAPI derived value of which infrastructure is only a part? Starting to see why my last runs have been intensely frustrating.

It's actually more worth to turn non-controlled investment pool, as it will help to grow faster, as essentially you are not using investment pool effectively until you take lazzes-fair. Thus allowed me to get 670 construction slots without getting into a deficit by 1845

Funny, I tried like 10 times with Quing and only once the Britain was acting like this. For most of my runs, after annexing Tibet the Britain attacked me and followed by Russia immidietely after ... and I rly tried funky stuff too but nothing changed in reality I just got slapped by them

Games like HOI4 and Vic3 seem very fun when you and some other KZreadrs play it. I tried getting into Vic3, but it seemed too complicated. Maybe I'm just a noob, but understanding EU4 was way easier for me.

@@vison883 Yea I did have trouble at the start especially since my first EU4 nation was a Siberian tribe. I didn't even know how to move my armies. Let alone annex nations. I guess I just learned naturally since I didn't really bother watching from a tutorial.
