The CIA helped them with logistics for airplanes, pilots, runways to smuggle cash to the Sandinistas. That's it. The fact that these same avenues were then used for drug trade was ignored by the CIA, for sure. What really sucks about the withdrawal is that while I’ve long wanted our troops to leave Afghanistan it’s terrible that it happened this way. We stayed there for way too long I imagine because we didn’t want to admit to failure of our mission when we first decided to occupy the country. I think it was fairly clear for most that this nation was never going to be one that would adopt American beliefs in terms of democracy and the like. But what truly sucks with this is that after spending 20 years there, spending countless dollars because of it, and troops losing their lives it ends up essentially being all for nothing. The minute we left it immediately reverted back to what it was before we ever came. So the harsh reality sets in that we spent 20 years over there with basically nothing to show for all it cost in the way of human life and money.

  • @kevin_dasilva

    @kevin_dasilva

    I agree with you that the most heartbreaking aspect of all this are the troops that needlessly lost their lives, being that those same people had the pride and confidence that they were defending one of the most beautiful systems in the world. That truly breaks my heart, because LOTS of people made LOTS of money off of those deaths. And trust me.. LOTS of those same people never wanted us to leave at all.

    We literally were in a support role with a total of 2,500 troops in Afghanistan. That is less than we currently have in Germany, Korea, Japan… and I’m talking less by a long shot we have scores of thousands of troops in each of those locations. We were no longer in combat in Afghanistan & should have stayed in a support role at least long enough to get our people & our stuff out. We really could have stayed indefinitely but limited the number of troops involved in any operations - provide intel to afghan army & otherwise not be involved much… instead we threw away 8 trillion dollars worth & blood to try to meet a deadline set by Biden. I’m not saying going in for as long as we did in the first place was even a good idea, but that withdraw was so botched it isn’t funny - and to this day, no one has taken responsibility for the utter failure it was.

    @@ComradeAlAtivan if people would learn about American history they would love America much more than they already do and they would learn this country is not racist in the slightest and is the greatest experiment the world has ever seen there is a reason America is the superpower of the world and is thriving but it's being attacked and it's dying fast especially art is dying right now because leftists in Hollywood hate American culture and they hate poor people. There is a reason America has the best music in the best movies there is a reason America has the best video games there is a reason the TV was invented in America there is a reason for all of these things and it is free market capitalism and individual liberty that exist only in America. That's why America is the greatest country on Earth it's not an opinion it's an actual fact we have individual liberty and our rights are given to us by God and that idea alone is why America is the greatest country on Earth because if God gives us our rights than a man can't take them away from us and other countries the government is given the power to hold rights over people's heads and they think the government allows them to have rights which is absolutely insane that you would put your trust in other people and let other people have the power to pick and choose who has rights and who doesn't this is exactly why other so-called free countries are not actually free at all. Individual liberty and the idea of inalienable rights only exists in America.

After the Soviet's withdrew, there was a lot of factional infighting in Afghanistan, and the Taliban, with Pakistan's funding came out on top and were running the country prior to the US entering. So no matter how people want to try and spin anything positive out of a 20 year war, in the end, nothing changed for the better. The Afghan people had a taste of how things can be better for their country, just to go back to the brutal regime to crack down harder on the people.

    We have 150k troops between Korea, Japan, and Germany alone - for decades prior to 9/11 to begin with. Those are modern first world countries who are not at risk of being overrun by a radical military force, perhaps with the exception of North Korea which is held by china’s leash in the first place. I’m not arguing that we should be in the business of nation building forever, but we should have at least recognized that we didn’t suffer any US KIAs in a year and a half, and being in an advisory role isn’t exactly a terrible thing for us. If we were to really pull out, it makes a hell of a lot more sense to anyone anywhere that we have to get our people out first. Relinquishing several strategic air bases and leaving without a trace while there were 100s of thousands of US citizens, contractors, troops, and allies that are left to be murdered by the taliban is atrocious. Anybody with any sense of military knowledge (including myself) could figure out a better plan. Now, in 10 years, or in 2009, 2015, 2017, or any date.

    I can answer his question about why all the "light gear" as he called it was left. They simply wanted out as fast as possible, and in doing so they got rid of all the specific personnel whose job it was to move that equipment back in May/June. I worked in the weapons shop at Bagram as a contractor and one of the roles our building played was housing small arms that were going to be shipped back to the US, specifically Theater-Provided Equipment (TPE) and contractor weapons. They had to go through customs and put in crates in order to be shipped back, and our building was the only one on Bagram that met security requirements for overnight storage. Our shop was ordered to close in the middle of May, as we were given plane tickets to leave at the beginning of June. The rest of my company pulled out a week later. So any contractor or Army unit that missed the deadline, whether it be because of incompetence, ignorance, or because they had mission requirements that kept them from being able to turn their weapons in until after the deadline, was out of luck. Funker 530 has a video of contractor AKs being left at the PAX terminal at HKIA, because what choice did they have? Destroy them? Anyone with the tools or know-how was already gone. I wouldn't be surprised if they were given orders to keep their weapons up until the day of their flight, so it's not like they had enough time, either. Essentially, the pullout was a shit show not only because of decisions at the top, but a lot of decisions at the middle got made without any cross-communication whatsoever.
