Here in Maine, there is a former Circuit City now a Goodwill, and a surplus/salvage store in what was the first Wal-Mart to come to Maine, with all the original red Wal-Mart themes inside. There is also a local department store chain called Reny’s, and their store in Saco, which is at the same shopping plaza as a former Ames store (now a Shaws supermarket) has the old green Ames checkout counters with the A+ Service logos on them. Most of the shopping carts they still use are also green Ames carts.

I agree. It's nice to know the site is actually getting used for something (even if it's just a thrift store) and isn't just sitting abandoned for years like some of these places do (yes, I heard him say it sat abandoned for 12 years, but it didn't STAY that way.) It's clear that there are a few places where the walls and ceiling could use a few coats of paint or some work to patch holes, but at least it doesn't look like anyone needs to worry about mold, or the ceiling collapsing on top of them.

Agreed. And now I am seeing Shopko locations being sold and getting new life. Shopko has only been gone since June of 2019. But I keep seeing reports of the former Shopko locations being turned into other things.

Nice to see you changing up the content you are putting out. It's good the small merchants have somewhere to go to sell their wares, and the Ames store getting a new life. Too bad they had to paint over much of what's on the former Ames walls. Wonder if they sell those Ames carts. Sure they'll make a few dollars if they do. Nice ending to use the Ames holiday commercial. I love places like that but I have to stay out of them because I only have a 700 square foot apartment and not enough room for all the stuff I would get.

One of the First WalMart's in my area is now a peddlers mall and still has same Remenats. Wal-Mart had been been there since early 80s before they moved to a supercenter around 2000. Also my city had one of the first woolco stores that was later a zayre and even an Ames before being subdivided to a ollies and roses outlet. Anthony dont quote me but this building style looks an awful lot like this Ames was once a Gold Circle Department Store probably back in the 1970s. They were considered to be more like a Target than say Walmart. Reason is my Parents said that many of the locations here were Gold Circle, turned Hills in late 80s, also turned into Ames in 98 or so but looking at this particular store it could've been Ames right from a Gold Circle due to the old red carts. Or I could totally be wrong and this was originally a Zayres that turned into Ames very possible. A dead giveaway is if this had an auto center at one time it was a Zayres for sure. Zayres were bigger department stores much like a regular Walmart.

As of now, (5-15-23), this Ames Plaza is being demolished or already has been. Its going to be a new truck stop. That thrift shop in there, Pookie's Little Britches, has opened another location in Hornell NY. Years ago before that plaza was built, it used to be a drive in theater. The plaza was built and I think someone said it may have been a Murphy Mart before Ames. I was at this Ames location once years ago. I remember this location also had two different entry locations, but one was blocked off. They must have remodeled at one time.

I'm going to hope that the owner at least has fixed any plumbing leaks, and is patching the roof gradually, as she can afford it. At least it doesn't look like the whole damn roof is about to collapse, and if there's any mold, it's not in the areas that Anthony got on camera. Plus, keep in mind that it would have had to go through an inspection before it could be opened to the public. Evidently it passed.

I'm from Michigan and thought the same thing but Ames did have a couple stores here around the mid state area in the lower peninsula.I think one was in the Howell area?
Place closed Jan 19' cuz owner wouldn't fix roof
Yeah it sounded like you were fighting a cold into you said something about food
I like that Africa by Weezer was playing in the background
Nice 😀
Now the place moved so now it sets abandoned
Thrifting is a really fun activity because you don’t know what you can find
Looks like it might've been a Grants originally

It was a Murphy's department store before Ames
Ames: the ghost of thrift stores
A Zayre originally.
It's nice to see an Ames repurposed and with some stuff intact and all.
Leaky ceilings and lights are not a good combination especially if it used to be abandoned.

I like that store owner she a sweet person
at 9:41 you can see an AMES trash can
Hey are you friends with Willieb26

1st comment! Love these videos!
panted post??? REALLY??? Kalamazoo or king of Prussia arent available???
Pretty soon the pookies little britches will move to a new location at the mall.
This was definitely a Gold Circle. It then was a Hills followed by Ames.
Lol how about getting some originality and stop copying Dan Bell.

@@ivormlf You want a strong comeback, stop bitching about something that has no basis at all, Tell me ONE similarity to his videos on this?..Oh that's right, there are none, Do you think he is the only person allowed to film retail related things, Should we all just stop filming now because he owns the genre, i mean get a clue
