Something weird going on with YT today. I can't seem to find my pinned comment. Strange... anyway, thanks for watching. This one will be a Blade next weekend, June 3-5.

Absolutely gorgeous knife and one of the best copper Damascus pieces I've ever seen, but there is one problem. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong about the blade (and there are oh-so-many right things about it), but it has exactly zero elements from a tanto. A tanto is a specific kind of knife from a specific culture, and it's made by specific rules. I'm not pedantic enough to cry cultural appropriation and say stuff like "you can't make a tanto if you're not Japanese" or anything like that, but what I can say is this: if you say you're making a tanto, please make it the way a tanto is supposed to be made. There is no such thing as a tanto with a recurve, an edge micro-bevel, a false edge, a full tang with two rivet nuts, a finger guard, a sharpening choil and so forth. Also, the angular tip is more of a Western invention. Not one Japanese tanto in the history of tantos has ever looked like this. It's like making a Kriegsmesser with an angular tip and titling the video "Forging a Copper Damascus Katana with a Cross Guard". I really admire your work, all of it, but you can do better than this.

@TyrellKnifeworks

@@AndreiH1605 that was not derogatory. I fully know what a traditional tanto looks like. I choose to call this a recurve tanto because people relate to that.

@@TyrellKnifeworks I get your point, but it's precisely because you clearly know what you're doing that I kinda expected you to promote... good culture, I guess? I agree that "recurve tanto" is pretty much what some people expect, but what they know about Japanese knives is just, well, mall ninja stuff. I guess my point here is that this was a chance missed to educate people. I mean... look at that sanmai wakizashi you did about a year ago: besides some minor details, that thing was freakin A-level, and it was a true blue wakizashi all the way.
You should try a sorta "Day in the Life of a Blacksmith" so that we get to know what being a blacksmith is really like

Out of all the content, I appreciate when you tell us about the mistakes. It's show us that you are a genuine person. I'm new to this. I would have been extremely upset when you showed the copper on the tip. I was really hoping it wasn't a replay. Once again you have out done yourself.
