Lyrics:
I thought I knew you well
But all this time I could never tell
I let you get away
Haunts me every night and every day
You were the only one
The only friend that I counted on
How could I watch you walk away
I'd give anything to have you here today
But now I stand alone with my pride
And dream that you're still by my side
But that was yesterday
I had the world in my hands
But it's not the end of my world
Just a slight change of plans
That was yesterday
But today life goes on
No more hiding in yesterday
Because yesterday's gone
Love, my love I gave it all
Thought I saw the light
When I heard you call
Life that we both could share
Has deserted me
Left me in despair
But now I stand alone with my pride
Fighting back the tears I never let myself cry
But that was yesterday
Love was torn from my hands
But it's not the end of my world
Just a little hard to understand
That was yesterday
But today life goes on
You won't find me in yesterday's world
Now yesterday's gone
Goodbye yesterday
Now it's over and done
Still I hope somewhere deep in your heart
Yesterday will live on

You brought up "texture" and I wholeheartedly agree. I was listening carefully to the difference between Lou and Kelly, and even though Lou's overall styling and inflections have been perfectly imitated, there is a unique textural quality to his voice that simply cannot be. It is this subtlety that makes a marked difference between a very good singer (Kelly) and a truly great one who cannot be equalled - Lou Gramm.

@UserNo84 So what are you trying to say? Regardless of what you think or theorize, Lou Grammy was always a top tier singer. I had the privilege of seeing Foreigner on several occasions, twice in L.A. in the mid to late 80s, then once in '93 in Seattle. Every time Lou sounded impeccable; very clear with perfect tone and pitch. The band as a whole were always great to see and definitely, always a crowd pleaser, big time! So if your trying to bring some negativity to belittle either Lou Grammy or Foreigner with your comment, then I don't get it, cause why else bring up some detail like that, it's a music video! It doesn't take away from how truly talented of a band Foreigner was, especially with Lou Grammy on lead vocals. And I would have to say you are Wrong, if that's your intent in a characterization of this Great band.

In some ways, it didn't get as much airplay as it could have because the OTHER songs in that time period were so good, as well. If you look at the early 1980s, the billboards were packed with other great songs every month.

Foreigner Love The 1980's
My teen years were the best simply because they were all during the 1980s. MTV, music. Casey Kasem, skating rinks, arcades, awesome movies, TV shows and many outdoor activities with no cellphones or social media. I miss my friends from that time.
Yes, he had one of the best voices in rock. They were so good in concert , they rocked the house. ❤❤❤❤😂❤❤😊😊😊😊😅🎉🎉
70’s and 80’s were there’s 👍
Foreigner was a hit making machine. Very underrated band in my opinion.
