    This is a very good video is this the same way is using a non cobra tank? I’m kinda thinking I should just buy a cobra tank and just buy a fore fuel pump and get my own lines and fittings, I am good with lines and fitting AN that is i work for a company that uses them hydro and what not

    Danny, when you have this type of return fuel system in your cobra, the fuel pumps will run constantly when you turn the key to run mode(not start). Is this correct? I ask because I am unsure about my newly bought cobra's fuel system, but I do know that when powered up the pumps run uninterrupted. The stock setup puts the pumps into a limp mode after a few seconds in "run" until you actually start the car up. This is why I think my car has an upgraded fuel system.

  • @dannyjohnsonsgarage

    @dannyjohnsonsgarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes, precisely. The fuel pump driver module (fpdm you saw removed) typically controls the pumps when you first turn the key. You hear a small prime and that’s all. With the return fuel system it will make the prime sound but not stop since the pumps are flowing from that moment on. Some people keep the fpdm to override that, but it would need to be tuned by someone who knows how to make that all work.

    @@dannyjohnsonsgarage I also have the same type of fuel regulator setup you showed next to my supercharger above the fuel rail with a pressure gauge on top of it so I suspected there is an upgraded system. Whether it's a return system or not I am unsure. I'll have my mechanic check to be sure. I found out about the pumps when I was running a diablo i3 tuner and when I tried to load an upgrade the tune failed because the constant running pumps had drained all the power from my battery! So now in order to do anything like that again I would need to disconnect #14 fuse(box under the hood) for the pumps so they are off when loading a tune. I am in no rush to mess with the present tune though because the car is running great and it already has all the engine mods I wanted in the car and the tuning was done by a very highly rated group...ProDyno out of South Carolina, so...don't mess with success! lol Great video Danny.

    @@dannyjohnsonsgarage Follow up...After some closer scrutiny, I've have been able to confirm that my upgraded fuel system is indeed a full return setup. Makes sense since all the required components are there. I just had to confirm the return line which runs off the regulator. Now I understand why my Cobra runs so well! lol Love your videos Danny!

    How much power can this setup support? looking at their triple kit to try to hit 800 to the wheel but not sure if a triple is overkill.

  • @dannyjohnsonsgarage

    The kind of fuel is the key. E85 needs more fuel flow. In this case we are doing pump gas so we didn’t need much. For 800 hp it is most likely you will need E85. I would go one step bigger on the kit with the feed line (this kit uses the stock feed line and then adds a return line). You’ll also want bigger injectors. A 3rd pump may not be necessary, but I’ve seen people add a 3rd that comes on only when needed

    Does the fuel get warm with pumps running all the time or did you install a hobbs switch or something? I saw some thing you guys mounted in the trunk. I guess that tells the other pump to come on at boost right?

  • @dannyjohnsonsgarage

    @dannyjohnsonsgarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@dy-no-mite9365 yes, the fuel will be warmer having traveled to the engine and back. There is a boost line that signals an increase of fuel pressure when it senses boost (which is why you must attach it to a boost vacuum line. Some people put it on a regular vacuum line and ran lean

    Do you keep the fuel rail pressure regulator on the rail when you install this?

  • @dannyjohnsonsgarage

    @dannyjohnsonsgarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    You take off the stock fuel rail pressure sensor and replace it with the new system's fuel pressure regulator. It's also very common to have a fuel pressure gauge installed on the new regulator so that's why you sometimes also see a fuel pressure gauge there.

    Since you guys are not running e85, what is the benefit to a return style fuel system? Also, did you upgrade the fuel injectors? Thank you in advance!

  • @dannyjohnsonsgarage

    @dannyjohnsonsgarage

    2 жыл бұрын

    The benefit is more fuel flow with less trouble. By comparison my cobra is at 600rwhp on stock pumps with a boost a pump. It does ok, but it’s not perfect with the pprv valve, and managing the returnless off and on signals. Where the car in the video is 650rwhp with a bigger supercharger and more room to grow, it’s just a better, more simple setup. He also went with 80 pound/hr injectors

    @@dannyjohnsonsgarage I'm currently sitting stock (power wise) and as such don't face many of the issues you guys who are making more power do. Knowing my obsessiveness with my car once I start adding power I won't stop till it becomes pretty darn unreliable. *crazy smile* I'm currently working on suspension and braking mods before I even get into adding power. Cars gotta be able to handle the power and stop it right....lol. I like to watch you and your brother and couple select other Cobra guys for advice, I trust y'all. I bought it 4 years ago from the original owner with only 6k miles on it. I'm done babying it now so time to have some fun. I'm kinda curious about the boost-a-pumo...useful when stock?

    Is there a second part for the fuel regulator instal on this?

  • @dannyjohnsonsgarage

    @dannyjohnsonsgarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, I still need to edit it. It’s pretty simple. Replace the fuel rail pressure sensor with the regulator, make sure the screw in the bottom is in with some pipe sealant and won’t leak, thread the other fittings just like in this video, and usually they have the regulator already set for pressure. You want to make sure the vacuum line goes to a boosted vacuum line so it will have the pumps give more fuel with boost. If not it won’t know enough to increase fuel pressure
