Yup, I drove one on the FAS in Rosslare, loved it. I liked Zetor but this was great craic when it ran 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I was 8 years old when I first drove a tractor and it was a super dexta. This was one of the best days of my life. I felt like a real man in a child body. I know if I drove one now I would feel like a child in a mans body. My first ride was over 44 years ago!!!

That nose cone is in amazing condition. Every one of them rusted badly at the sides here in Ireland. That is the usual spot for the block to crack in the frost. My one cracked internally into the centre cylinder as well, the liner fell in two when pressed out. Local engineering firm machined out the block to take a Massey Ferguson 35x heavy liner, then bored it back to original Dexta size. Remember, that's virtually the same block as a Massey 35. Biggest difference is the Massey does not have the hand primer/lift pump located beside the injector pump like the Dexta has.

i have about 4 super dextas and dear god about 2 of them are for parts and you got to keep them topped up in anti freeze or else that block cracks there a bollux of a fault in them all. I have one with a perfect engine at the moment with no live drive and another one that belonged to my father that has a live drive back end and a small crack on the block so at them moment i am going to join the two of them up to make a ideal little fordson 😊

I haven't seen a Dexta for years! Same pistons and liners etc as the four cylinder Fordsons so parts are easy. Great little tractors.

Game not over yet. Never know, could work out well. Good luck on this one.👍

Never Give up man!Surely you can find a Perkins somewhere,Would be cool to see that block welded up. A new set of rings, a ball-hone, and some welds on the cracks may not be a far-fetched idea if he don't mind it doing a little smoking and drinking when he uses it! LOL

Well you all ways want to give it a try b4 u have take head off. And yes you do have to take front axle off but it not that a bad off a job. Then u just block the back end up and just take belhouesing bolts you be good to go. But u no all that anyway. But just take cluch off as well. If u don't do a complete rebuild. Damn that one is a wreck. I love little 3 cylinder diesels but that one is beyond what I would consider a reasonable rescue. Sure it COULD be saved but it'd require so much time, money, and additional parts that I wouldn't deem it worth it unless it was a super rare engine you couldn't get parts for. Which this isn't. Pretty neat little tractor though. I've got a little Ford 641 Workmaster. (same chassis as the 8n but with an overhead valve engine) and it's a great little tractor.

I enjoyed and learned something new, again. I sold on that rust eating stuff. Ona side note I used Koil on a wd 45 and just rolled the whole tractor back and forth so I could get it al apart. Just goes to show you more than one way to skin a cat.

Ya, I wrote those comments before you got to the "removed cover" part. The damage to those engine cylinders is beyond comprehension. I've never seen rust that bad. Ever.

hey jonathan: when I saw that exhaust manifold, I knew the jig was up. If, if if. he had opportunity to save it, like 30 years ago. another engine and the tractor will be worth it because of the nose and all the rest functional probably. hope the radiator isn't broke too.

some of the ingersoll rand mobile compressors had that type of engine too ,along with the massey ferguson 35 and 135

yea when I seen the patches on the lower radiator hose I figured it was being patched just to keep it gowing..and it doesn't matted how long ago it was patched together anti freeze was expensive different times different prices,it really high now...on a tight income and all it takes is one sudden freeze and crack ola...I've lost a few and seen many ....all away a scurry of flurry to drain the non winterized cars and equipment....and of forget about it or health issues set in and it gets overclooked...I use to live in northern indiana...sad but I I've seen a few.....PEOPLE use to ask ...is the block cracked....dad had a SMALL auto salvage yard and then you walk around your place it reminds me of my folks place.....now down here in Texas..HOT HOT HOT.but this last winter's we had 3-4 times we had a hard freeze caught a few off guard......pipes..burst..you know the rest ....it's still hurts to loose stuff...

Looks like a total engine remove and damage check. Pull it from the engine mount, and see if turns over. Flush the cylinders with rust remover, and check the cam for damaged parts.

As you was viewing and showing the crack in the block, I thought I saw one bad freeze (frost) plug in bad shape...….behind that fuel filter housing.

time to invest in one of those 15 or 20 buck Ebay USB Endoscope cameras.. so you can look down the intake ports or perhaps even thru the injector holes.. to see into the combustion chambers.

looks like you like a challenge crikey thought mine looked rough when i bought it off a farmer 5 years ago,i got all engine done up did some work to make it tidy but lost interest engine wouldent turn over gonna try your trick on ring gear with prize bar ,i might of got clutch lined up wrong or engine stuck cos i dident turn it over periodically ,i must work on it again the super dexta was a nice motor .ive a standard dexta attached to a saw but i have to use go juice to fire it up check it out on my channel ,keep up the good work Ant from Wales UK .ive subbed

You had a perkins engine you first started a year ago, and it had injector pump issues. Would that be the same engine block as the Ford tractor????

Was any progress made on this? I don't see any follow-up videos.

I think it’s time to find another engine. Cracks can be repaired but never know what internal cracks it may have.

Jonathan there is $1,500 worth of screw clamps on that tractor.

I am all for fixing up old machines, but I am not sure this one is worth all the trouble to get it back in good condition.

Jonathan, Vinegar eats rust, have you ever tried that in radiators ? I know baking soda and water cleans out cooling systems good.

Just pull it a part. Braze the block if you can and sleeve it . Try to find a good exhaust manifold. Total top to bottom rebuild.

No big deal on resurfacing the head and putting new valve guides in! You can reuse the valves and reseated with compound. Let the pistons set in STP or mystery oil and knock them out resleeve it or hone it out.

That is a Perkins 152. Massey 35's and 135's had them too.

You ever use molasses to eat rust? I read you take 9 parts water and one part molasses and it will clean rust in about a week.

Look at oil line going into filter looks to be bent to the point of slowing the oil down

Well, that stuff you poured in there (Metal Restore?) appears to be a low-molarity phosphoric acid, or some neutralized base of the same. I'd suggest that coca cola might be a lot less expensive next time, but I dunno.

I had 2 Fordson majors the transmission is almost unbreakable but engines are not the best usually they mix water and oil and the hydraulics are not that powerful

I'd need a written manual on the tractor, Jonathan; sorry, buddy.

I would buy that Simms injector pump if the price was right. I need one for mine.

Guessing it did not have anti-freeze in it, does not look good for that engine, without a lot of time/money put in to it.

Alex Hickey f3 144 , it’s similar to a Perkins p3 , Ford originally developed the engine with help from Perkins, eventually Perkins got the rights to the design and the a3-152 was built
