Fixing A Hard Start Diesel - Project Dexta Pt3

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this episode I try to improve the tractor's cold starting ability by fitting a new manifold heater and cleaning the starter. I also fully rewire the tractor. I start the rebuild of my father's '59 Fordson Dexta. After a tough 62 years of service this old tractor needs some serious attention.
Dave's Workshop - from classic cars to heavy machinery, brake rebuilds to engine swaps. More projects to follow.

Thanks! You'd expect to see a TW-30 or something coming with that beacon, but they made them a legal requirement on tractors here a few years back. Should really fit one on the other side too! Thanks for watching.

Nice job on the wiring loom. Made my own loom for me own Super Dexta, they are a very simple circuit. That standard Dexta is running great, no hunting at low revs. Well done. Keep up the good work :-)

Thanks! I was running low on cable so its a bit over sized! I've made better! Definitely worth pulling the starter and cleaning, especially in the gaps in the commutator ring. Just watch the dust that comes out of it, I wouldnt be going out of my way to breath it in! Clean all your connections well too, takes very little to effect performance. Thanks for watching!

@@mickeyvfr98 good stuff! Its amazing how a small amount of dirt or corrosion can impact starting. It would be worth going through your leads and solinoid as well. I've had starting issues with the 6610 as well and part of the solinoid melted Friday morning so must go through it all again. Thanks for letting me know! New video shortly.

13:03 They do make PTFE tape that's specifically rated for use with fuel systems, just a little harder to find. Like you said in the video though, shouldn't be an issue either way in this instance.

I bought that cold start kit online from old 20 parts. Everything else comes from Clifford's tractor parts in Kerry. I think I might have fried the heater plug since as its blowing fuses. I'm going to change the starter as I think its just too slow. A good fast crank is always the best job. Since I put the geared starter on the 6610 it fires first time.
