60 YEAR OLD TRACTOR - WILL IT RUN?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
She's been neglected and not run for a long time so now we need to see if the old Dexta will cheech to life. It's not like it's been fully maintained and serviced so this could be a struggle.
Wera video: • IS THIS the BEST John ...
Will it start ?
Will it run ?

My dad used to work the old fergies and stuff way back when instead of being in school lol years later he bought a lister d stationary engine and then added a belt driven water pump. He then sold his engines and bought himself an old Fordson major before ending up with a grey fergie. Spent many an hour at steam rallies and ploughing matches as a kid..... Loved it too
My dad had a Dexta with all the problems.Great little tractor did its job lovely to drive. Many hours spent on it.Those were the days.

Getting stuck in gear was one problem unless you were well used to driving them. They say welding a pice of metal on the selector cured it.
That was like a comedy act at the beginning, getting her to start.. made me laugh 😂
Brings back memories of when my dad bought a Dexta because he needed the live PTO which the Fergie didn’t have. It was a peach, had grass tyres on and had been used to cut grass at a cricket club. Was really strong and sounded great, just needed a set of proper tyres. Only problem was a wobbly mudguard- rotted at the bottom! Would have it, and the fergie (sorry) back at the drop of a hat. Just as toys though, no farm any more. Thanks for the memories…
Nice little tractors the Dextas , good to see it being saved and getting a thorough going over. All the best .
The Dexta I once owned gradually wore away the metal on the sides of the gearstick where it fits in the selectors. Every so often when changing gear it would find its way out between them and into 'no mans land' which left you stuck in one gear or another. Eventually I had had enough of it and took the top off, welded on more metal, filed it down and refitted it. Problem sorted. Your Dexta though could, at a guess, have worn selector rail gates or forks. There's only one way to find out, take the gearbox top off! Another interesting Sunday evening video coming up I hope.
Feels like forever since we last had a WILL IT RUN video from you!!😉👍
I am never disappointed with your videos Mucker and I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The inclusion of the comedy clips was great and appeals to my sense of humour. At 60 the Dexter is sounding good, I remember them as a lad. I am looking forward to discovering what the mystery tractor might be.
Yet again a great video you are one in a million with your delivery/description, Keep um coming.
I liked your "insert clips here" editing. I love working on old stuff. They are always full of surprises and amusement. Nice throttle. You're staying busy my friend!
Love the old tractors I get more enjoyment out of them then the new stuff great video
Excellent video - looking forward to what is in store for the future!
If the Dexta could talk, he'd say......"I may look worn out, but I'm ready to work with the best of them, I've still got life left in me yet!" 👍👍 🚜
Could do with some Liquid Moly diesel injector cleaner. I used it on a Kubota to see if it did any good and it worked wonders, went from needing several second cranking to start to firing first turn and no smoke, I was amazed as I was getting ready to pull all five injectors but ten quid's worth did the trick.

Great tip you can run it on it neat for a quicker result. 👍
Looking forward to seeing the work being done on the Dexta. Enjoyed the video thanks.👍
Great start on the Dexter , no idea what the mystery tractor is . Keep it up Mucker 🚜 👍
She is a well used old machine but has really good bones. There old machine suffer gradual decay from poor servicing, and can often be mostly cured just getting the fuel system gone through to spec and putting the wiring in order. What required it's own cosby can holder in the past may start like a champ unassisted after those simple repairs. Good tires is a huge bonus on a rough old tractor. It is hard to justify putting too much in repairs on a rough one when it will still need tires after.
Great stuff Kurt and Puppo, yes it was on a Dexta that I learned my craft on ( such as it is) had lots of fun getting air locks out of her as well😁👌👍🙂
I am happy to see that Britain has its own italian rageing soccer Trainer like we have in Germany.. They are THE best entertainer ever! Legends😂😂😂
Dexta, great. Was my first part owned tractor with my Dad.
What a peach! My Dexta selects all the gears as well, when I got it it even had socket head screws holding the cover on, and a T Bar Allen key in the tool box for a quick-change whilst on the road!! Put a new lever/plate on, a little better but the selectors themselves are worn out so still does it now and again when not careful.
Lovely Dexta, so glad you make time for it
Great vid looking forward to the progress on this one, and to see what you have been hiding from us. Fantastic entertainment.
Nice little tractor sounds sweet when running looking forward to how it turns out for you Mucker 😀

Brilliant video your lordship so looking forward to seeing the major videos 👍
Oh hell.... I had a Dexta back in the '70s, and it was pig to start. Put it this way, if that engine hasn't been rebuilt at least once in that tractor's life, you'll be very very lucky if you can get it to start properly, especially in cold weather. We spoke to a good few mechanics before tackling ours, and the story was always the same - a lot of wear on the cylinder walls. It's a Dexta thing, more to the point, it's a Perkins P3 thing, but it only seemed to afflict Dextas. New sleeves and pistons will sort that out. Now then, I noticed that you didn't seem to be using the manifold pre-heater, nor the little squirty pump under the fuel cock. You'll need them, even if the engine was brand new. It has to be the crudest "flame plug" I've ever come across, but it works very effectively. Another thing to look at is the clutch pedal. Either, farmers are too tight in the ring piece to use grease on such a trivial thing, or, they can't be arsed to clean off all the soil and grit before greasing, but you can't fail to notice that as you depress the clutch pedal, it sways out sideways as well as going downwards! That could have been designed better. Back on the engine, I was once told, and have since read, that there was a bit of a debacle between Ford and Perkins over the poor starting and accelerated wear, with Ford allegedly claiming that they'd been fobbed of with a load of crappy engines that Massey Ferguson had rejected. There is no doubt that the Fergy 3 cyl Perkins was by far a better engine than the one that went into the Dexta. Oh those gear sticks.... Have fun, and keep a 9/16th AF spanner under the seat cushion - just in case! You might also find that the bronze gear selectors need replacing - mine did. In fact, it was them, not the sticks, that suffered the most wear, and were the biggest issue. All in all, once you've tamed that Dexta, it'll be a lovely little old machine that you'll enjoy driving again and again. Oh yes, be aware, once restored to good health, be sure to have something to hold onto when you open the throttle, because if it's anything like mine - Top gear, full chat on the throttle, and that little beast will be out from under your bum and leave you skating along the tarmac wondering where it went! I've booked my season ticket for this series. Can't wait to see how you get on with it.

I'm so glad that one legged crazy ass Canadian turned me on to your channel 👌👌👌👌
Really enjoy your videos. Looking forward to the next.
If you're not careful you're going to fall in love with it 😂 Good entertaining video 👍 You're a teez with your secret 😂 favourite tractor.
Great show tonight mate, more of the rebuilds please. Go well !
Great video mucka looking forward to the next one
That was very educational thanks Lord Muck
Sounds good the old Tractor..Great Video...
This brings back lots of memories, used to drive a couple. Both were worn out heaps of shite, way down on compression, heavy breathing and ether start or no start. You should have a flame heater in the inlet manifold, the only time I had any luck with them was when I sprayed wd40 down there as honorary ether and it ignited. It belched a few flames out of the exhaust, but fired up pretty quickly.
Cosby in a can ... that’s gold ! Well done !
Mr Muck! I did not receive a notification for when you uploaded this video yet I clicked the bell! This is outrageous! How dare you!
Great job. Keep the videos coming!
Great video and a great little tractor the Fordson Dexta a dairy farmer near me still uses his every year to spread granular fertiliser on the home farm and the out farm .
Excellent, been looking forward to this!
Looks like a nice solid little tractor that just needs a bit of TLC, nothing major. That Cosby holder, though, not only is it a dedicated holder for the tractor, it's nicely painted too!
That Dexta starts like my diesel Fergie 😅 be interested to see how this one turns out, the Cosby holder is pretty special. Looks a nice little tractor though
Good video cheers, watching it on TV,better than UK tv.
Hi from durham KM @ LM dexter looks like a trooper cant wait to see how progresses 👍 and as for the cosby getting addicted 😂 bloody tin had more support than than.issue😂👌 but dexy in rehab now goin to kick the cosby 😂 thanks for your time and be safe see you soon👍👋
Watched all the US Farmtubers, now I'm watching the UK. You sound like a young Michael Caine!!!
That was a great video brings back many memories especially C in the tire tracks were boss used to leave on males with the old Dexter with the spinner on the back believe you me there was one lot that been there in the field for 2 years nobody would go anywhere where he would go
Quite a collection in that shed!!
Good evening me lord, Love the video I like it as that the one we had on the farm were I worked so it’s nice to see.🌈🌈🚜🚜
Great drove one when i was 10 and a ford major .
“This has got the habit of selecting how many gears....? Fkin all of them! At once!”🤣🤣👌🚜
this will be fun to watch :) im doing up a 1961 Dexta of my own. looking forward to more videos on this one. and yes, the gear leavers/issue is a WELL known dexta thing xD
Great video again mucker! Always fancied a Dexta to go with my major D or even the super major when I had them, but it just never happened and the 434 turned up so that's that.
Good little tractor the little Dexta👍👌
Well done on the "flappy thing" on the exhaust of the 590... I am old and easily amused...
Great video again mate. You been hiding an 8210 on us by any chance? It doesn’t sound like she’s hunting but replacing the governer diaphragm is well worth doing when your at it anyway. I’m sure you know this already just in case you don’t though there should be a small hand fuel pump under the left hand side of the tank which I think puts diesel through the heater plug, prime that whilst turning over makes a big difference to staring especially in colder conditions. Carry on with all your good work, every one of your videos a joy to watch. 🐶🚜🛠💪👍👌
Thought it was gonna be a double canner 🤣🤣. Poor Laal thing. Good vid..👍
The Ether Bunny holiday is on the horizon👌💯🤔
The mystery tractor noise was the red Ferguson 20 don't be fooled 😅 great video can't wait to see the surprise bud 👌

Good video👍 have a super dexta myself which im going to restore havent had a problem with the gears yet but engine oil is getting into the exaust manifold 😣
I truly appreciate how you get these old tractors up and running. I can't believe how some folks think it's so simple to throw money and parts at a vehicle without truly knowing what you need. It's nice to see these tractors run using original parts when possible. Check out salvage workshop on KZread for good inspiration.
Good afternoon your Lordship, great ‘will it start video’ as always and I really like the film clips that you use too so sorry that this is a short comment this time as my emotions 😂 are running away with me a little today about something that happened at work this morning and until next time TaRa for a bit.
Unique original roll bar👌
Great video mucker sounds ace
Good one! I’d clean and de-grease the paint work then give it a clear coat to keep that patina, real old school
love your videos and the comedy how dare you ha ha edward kean
I am not hundred % certain but I reckon one or two of my dad's numerous te20s used to get "stuck" in-between gears as well, ah well I suppose a lot of the old tracters had very similar design and associated probs. Nice little video again mate.🚜
Learned to drive on a Dexter on a golf course aged 12 normally which pulled fairway gang mowers. It had all the traits of this one. I always got the blame for the worn gear selectors even though I hadn't been around at the time. The left hand mudguard was missing fo years which was an absolute death trap as we all rode on the multi hole drawbar. I only got to drive it solo once I'd mastered reversing the trailer into the shed & round a 90 degree corner. Looking forward to the next instalment.
Great Stuff!! Do Well!!
Top stuff good old tractor
You don't need to worry about the health and safety 😉 big up ol peg
Great video as always, the mystery tractor hmm my money is on either a 7800/10 JD or a late 55 series Deere ! Probably wrong lol !
Do you think in 40 / 50 years time will we be able to revive today's tractors with all the electronic stuff on them as we have from 40 / 50 years in our past
Funny really but as a boy l always thought that if you can afford a dexta you were well off, consequently my dad always stuck with grey fergys which l actually liked and we had them right up to selling our equipment and farm to emigrate to Wisconsin in 1997, there are loads of Ford 2ns 5ns and 9ns here, as for grey fergys , there not so popular for some reason, good luck with the Dexta, one day I’ll find one here as they are about albeit very few and mostly petrol!
interesting. Some of the lads that had dextas when I was young were dab hand at ripping off the top cover and sorting the selectors with a screwdriver. I had to resort to the same remedy on a DB 995 that had a worn gear lever in more recent times.
Good to see your collection and projects

Glad Bill C is back in the house but that Fordson just needs bit TLC LOL. The mystery tractor i am guessing it’s big hp Ford just way that engine started n breathe, can’t wait for what’s in store will it need restoring or is it mint? Nice👌
