I think Roman is playing it up and having fun, but he’s not wrong! Ford is throwing down the gauntlet so to speak. Plus some of us aren’t naive FCA fan boys and just happy to see a competitor.

I def think that Ford is taking shots HARD here. I'm actually big into cars, especially luxury cars, but I grew up on Bronco's, my brother owned like 3, my dad owned like 5. I love them, so just seeing a 2 door SUV beyond the Jeep is amazing, and especially seeing its the Bronco and how well its done, that's more amazing. I absolutely hated the SUV craze that's been picking up lately, I never really wanted to buy an SUV in the first place, Especially a more rough-type one, but this thing calls to my heart. Finally we're seeing some cool shit come out of this SUV craze. It only took half a decade. I think that the jeep at this point looks outdated compared to the Bronco too. FCA is taking such a long time to update their products. I think dodge is really carrying them at this rate, and its only because people don't mind trading some creature comforts for a big body muscle car. FCA Also is known for their terrible quality. I mean fiat is in a shit storm, its dead, Chrysler is dead, Dodge is barely getting updates, Jeep is outdated too. I mean just compare the Jeep wranglers interior to the Bronco. It feels like a different league. I mean the jeep still has those circular air vents and plastic-y buttons, reminds me of a 2006 PT cruiser or Dodge Neon. It looks distinctively FCA and not in a good way, it calls back to the days of piss poor quality in American vehicles. Anyways, ill stop ranting, I'm excited for the competition, finally these companies are doing something better than just making crossovers.

Violent I actually couldn’t agree more. I was so excited for the new Corvette and excited for many other sports cars but never thought I’d be excited for an Off-road vehicle for come out where I literally watched the debut. The Jeep has its charms but any many ways that’s it’s weakness. The Bronco looks innovative and comes with creature comforts but still seems like a pure off road vehicle.

Violet Ford is definitely more reliable, but I would absolutely despise it if the Jeeps iconic exterior was changed. Personally, I find the Jeep to be a much more attractive vehicle than the Bronco. I will say the bronco does have a pretty sick front grill tho. But the Jeeps grill is a staple so it isn’t changing. Apart from that I do like both interiors, but it would be nice if FCA would up their quality from those stupidly cheap plastic buttons.

The issue I see here is that Jeep doesn't build a 4x4 to do the same stuff as the Bronco. what they build a build is a platform for the modding community to have fun with. Jeep has been around for so long that they have the monopoly on aftermarket mods and this is where Jeep will stand its ground. Ford may have a solid vehicle here, but all mods for the bronco so far are made by ford, meaning that they can ramp the prices up to whatever they want. meanwhile, Jeep leaves all modding options to the community which creates competition, driving the prices down for aftermarket Jeep parts.

@@joshuamarshman101 that’s because the vehicles are brand new. The 3rd party aftermarket guys haven’t been able to get them to make a product yet, but they will. There’s a very healthy aftermarket for the Tacoma, for example. Not like for the Wrangler, but there’s plenty available. If Ford actually tries to compete with the Wrangler, and they make at least a trim aimed at serious off-roading, and the consumers embrace it, then the aftermarket will follow.

nick sanchez since the launch of the rubicons, I’d agree they haven’t made revolutionary changes. The longer control arms of the jl definitely improve ride and articulation on and off road. They made the windshield easier to fold than the jk. Doors are lighter which helps with removal. The front and rear lockers, sway bar disconnect, and lower low range transfer case were rubicon exclusive until Ford jumped on the band wagon. It’s much easier to copy the other guys formula and throw in a bit of one ups manship. The 360 cameras would be a nice add to the wrangler line. Factory 35’s available across all models would be nice too. Engine wise the eco diesel is still hard to beat. Hopefully they drive each other to some v8 options again, but time will tell.

if Toyota, Honda (maybe Nissan) had not started building superior quality cars and sending them over here the big three would of had no incentive to improve the dismal quality of their product over the crap they were building from about 1980 to early 2000's.

@Rusty Climber The UAW put them in bankruptcy. They had to pay them to not work. It was ridiculous. most of the big 3 cars are built abroad because of the UAW. more import brands are built here than domestic because they will not tolerate the UAW. The UAW squeezed the big 3 so hard they had to cheapen the cars to try to make a profit. maybe now that Ford will have the Bronco, Jeep will have to up the quality to compete. The Pontiac Aztek was a shining example of a vehicle that GM knew they were going to lose money on, but they had to build it anyway because it was cheaper to build it using the UAW, than to cancel it and pay the UAW guys to not work.

Tom Turd when was the last time you drove a wrangler? Our jlu with the 2.0t handles great at speed, both on the freeway at 80+ and on windy mountain passes. The broncos ifs will ride smoother on the road, the Jeep would walk up that obstacle the ifs couldn’t quite make in the video. Most buyers don’t go off road at all, and even those that do stick to dirt roads. In that terrain the bronco has the edge. In the rocks where articulation is king, advantage Jeep. Ease of lifting, and thus cost is another huge disparity between the solid axle and the ifs. I hope the competition drives Jeep to improve upon their weak points, but for my off road needs I’ll stick with the proven commodity.

Maybe your's was worse than the jk's I've driven, or superduty's for that matter of the same era , maybe you are expecting a car/ifs like ride that you'll never see out of a solid axle? In either case, you'll definitely find a better road ride from the Bronco. I'll always trade a little road manners for the off road performance I'm used to from a solid axle.

Back in 2002 a friend of mine drove the entire Rubicon trail in his then factory stock base model 1998 Jeep Wrangler with it’s 2.5 liter 120 horsepower inline 4 cylinder engine and 5 speed manual transmission. It wasn’t easy and there were more than a few sections that took a long time and a lot of hard work to get through but he made it with minimal damage to his Jeep. A lot of people told him he was crazy and that he wouldn’t make it or that he would ruin his Jeep but he did it anyway. He did have to get some winch assistance from guys in the group he was with a few times so technically you can say he didn’t actually do it in a stock base model Wrangler because without the help of a winch he wouldn’t have gotten by a couple areas on his own but I’d consider it a successful run.

I don't think that Ford was making a "statement" just testing on one of the premier proving grounds. The spot in the video where the Bronco was struggling, is the hard route, to the left of that spot is a more passable route. I've been on the Rubicon several times in my very modified early Bronco (I even pull a trailer) and it's no piece of cake....even snapped a rear axle in the Little Sluice but, that was my fault, I was pulling a trailer. Ford did their homework on that IFS front end, it seems to flex remarkedly well and the steering linkage and CVs seem to be pretty stout as well. We'll have to wait for an actual magazine test/review with veteran pilots behind the wheel. And, they had way too much air in those tires! I usually go down to 8-10psi. So, kudos to Ford for showing the capabilities of their new Bronco.....not just another mall crawler!
