    I am not buying one, but I have a 2020 Ranger with a turbo 4. I live near the North Wind River Ranger in Wyoming and drive at elevation daily. The turbo is SO MUCH better at altitude I will never go back to NA engine. The low end torque is sick and most important it maintains power as elevation increases. Not to mention better MPG than my Taco ever got.

    2.0L Turbo on my 2021 Rubicon. I love it. I have no noticeable throttle lag and outstanding low-end torque when I want it. I have 2" of lift on 38" Nitto Ridge Grapplers and no rub. I have excellent off the line acceleration. 3 years as a daily driver and one weekend a month of hard off-road and I have no engine or suspension problems.

    I have a 2021 Wrangler Willy’s 2.0 and I am 100% team turbo. The 2.0 will run circles around the 3.6 in my gladiator Mojave. I think Jeep is insanely rude to integrate the antenna into the windshield increasing replacement cost knowing full well the windshields break so frequently. Seems to be a more and more common thing anymore, a lot of today's gas engines sound like a diesel with all the rattling and knocking noises they make....yeah if you want a long term vehicle avoid those undersized turbo engines. They don't have a very good ride quality either...would be a fun offroad only toy, but not worth the prices they want for them.

  • @adamblakeley5865
    @adamblakeley5865Ай бұрын

    Vehicle prices are just getting insane. I fully understand that this is a highly capable, fully loaded off-road monster, that you can also daily, if you don’t mind the punishment, but it’s still crazy. There are very few manufacturers that have well equipped vehicles for a reasonable price still. Subaru comes to mind. With their most expensive fully loaded model coming in around 47 or so I believe. I mean the average transaction price for a vehicle now is over 48 which is nuts. And the problem is that the automotive media is trying to downplay it. I can’t tell you how many reviews I’ve seen of the new Land Cruiser being referred to as “affordable”. Lol are you serious? The base model STARTS at 56. Now granted, compared to the last available LC in the US which was around 80-100, sure, 56 is “affordable”. Just like the ADMs. As long as there are people out there who enjoy being ripped off and continue to pay this ridiculousness, they are going to keep charging it. Awesome rig, crazy capabilities, but 66K? Nah. Good review as usual though Ryan. And I will say that you do generally call out pricing when it’s atrocious. Anyway keep up the good work.

  • @drivingsports

    @drivingsports

    Specifically regarding a land cruiser, you have to remember that previously the land cruiser was only available for around $80-$90,000 in the US. So the new model is relatively affordable compared to prior Land Cruiser models.

I know you know this and were making the point about relativity, but it's a false economy that is lost on a lot of folks. If only they'd bring the 300 here although at today's vehicle pricing they'd have to somehow slot it in between the LX600 and the Sequoia which would put it in a weird spot.

    4 Auto is for pavement driving. It's not meant for off-roading. I mean, you can, but you increase the chances of overheating the clutchs built into the transfer-case. It's the MP3022, in 4 Auto it's sort of like having an AWD mode.

  • @wildbill23c

    @wildbill23c

    26 күн бұрын

    That's where Jeep went wrong when they did that 4 auto mode, they should have went back to the old school mechanical Selec-Trac transfer case setup that was found in the XJ, MJ, ZJ, WJ, and the KJ....that system had a mechanical open differential in the transfer case, no clutch packs like today's auto mode transfer cases use. I wish I had a way to record some video footage with my Liberty between full time and part time modes, there's a huge difference in capability between those 2 settings that many people probably wouldn't realize. On a test hill, I found I'd spin a tire or a couple, couldn't make it up in full time, shift to part time and it would crawl up it with much less fuss....low range you could just about idle up the hill across the ruts.

    The trunk of my YJ was plenty. Use a tailgate rack above the spare. Roof-racks, spare-tire racks, hitch-racks, and wheelwell storage can hold enough stuff for 4 occupants in a 2dr. 4 Auto is basically AWD. The old NP242 SelecTrac was simpler than today's SelecTrac...and it worked fine.

That's also how the full time 4WD worked in my 2008 Ford Explorer. It didn't have a 2WD option, it was auto, hi, and low...but the clutch pack was the only coupling to the front axle even in low range the clutch pack was doing the work to get the power to the front.

    @@jimibennett82 location makes a difference. I’m in Texas and the msrp was $52k but dealer had discounts down to $47k and also was able to negotiate a little more down to $45k but of course TTT brought it back up to nearly $50k

    No, saving gas matters on long off-road trips. My old TJ uses very little gas while wheeling, but my JL drinks gas when off-roading. I’ve had to get fuel canisters for the first time in 20 years of wrangler ownership for my long JL trips.

    @@wildbill23c I have this wonderful thing called an imagination. It lets me simulate how things will be even if they aren't right in front of me. I know an I6 turbo has higher performance than the current v6 and the 4xe hybrid system removes the slack.

    Lockers are the cheat code. Just happens the Rubi Jeep has them. And frankly, pretty much anything with lockers can do those trails. And for a fraction of the price. Don't know how long they've had that 4Auto setting but good to see Jeep catching up with 30yr old Toyota Land Cruiser tech in terms of full-time 4wd. And yes, it is all the good things you said about it. Unlikely Jeep's version will last near as long as Toyota's given that I'm sure it's all sensor/software-based, but still. Good video and review. 👍

    $65k sounds expensive BUT consider if you had to modify a $35k 😮Sport to be Rubicon X you’d be spending the same. There is a reason the X is expensive.

    Ryan, I think it is a good idea that you try all the vehicles that have the option of 4x4 Auto to run all the courses like that first and then run again in the settings that you think are going to work best, to compare how the vehicles behave and see witch 4x4 Auto is the best and each Auto brand

    I think the issue would be as with any pickup, the wheelbase, and approach, breakover, and departure angles will cause issues. The more basic 2 door Wranglers are quite capable as is because of their short wheelbase....trucks typically don't fare so well in those types of scenarios as shown in the video you lose traction and ground clearance too quickly.
