When I paid $45K for my 2014 JKU Rubicon I was nervous to go extreme with off-roading it. I told my wife I wish I had bought an older jeep. Her advice was just wait, eventually this will be an older jeep. Now I’m having a blast with it and don’t give a hoot about pinstriping or worry about trail damage. I could not imagine the stress of taking a $100k vehicle off roading.

When I bought this 392, it cost me $200,000, while my friend paid $300,000 for the same car in China. Here, a 2.0T rubicon sets you back $80,000, so before you grumble about paying $100K for a V8 natually aspirated jeep, just consider the money we folks in third-world countries have to fork out to own one. Perhaps then you'll understand if it's really worth it. God bless America.

He said he would buy the 392. 🤷♂ It's what he was reviewing. Of course he would start off with the love for it. But when one push comes to shove, he can be very practical. But he still chooses a Jeep over the Bronco when it comes to hitting the trails. That is the take away here. 😉
Jeep people have been asking for a 5.7 as a $2000 option, not a $90k Jeep. The 392 is just spitting in the faces of loyal fans. Both are $30k over priced.
@backwoodstherapy

That would be wonderful but it won't happen. V8s are on the way out. I wish I could get a smaller V8 option in a Sport, but that will never be a thing again.
Don't forget that the Jeep 392 has one big advantage. at some point it will be running and in use while the Eco-boost Ford V6 engine is in the shop for most likely significant repairs. If Ford knew what they were doing they would have used the Coyote V8.
My Wife has a 2022 392 in Tuscadero and I have a 2023 392 in Black. We love them and they are fun, on and off road
I’ve had 2 clients with 392s, trained them offroad driving and recovery. Excellent vehicle, I’m a Toyota guy. I’d buy the 392 if I had 100k to buy a Jeep.

Bad choice
This was one of my favorite Roman videos in a long time, or maybe ever. It felt pretty raw in all aspects, in a good way. A vulnerable opinion, a reflective stance on the market and TFL, a beautiful trail, two great vehicles and their subtle differences. Maybe it was the gasping for air, but it works! Great job as always team.
Both these vehicles are like a dream come true, but for me I enjoy our 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. True it's not a 392 but I can go any where off road, haul a large trailer filled with Dirt, haul wood. I moved my one sons furniture to his new home in the back of my Gladiator. I drove from Baltimore to NY and back on the highway doing 70 and sometimes hit 87 miles an hour and my fuel mileage was around 22 mpg. We drove up there to bring home a new rescue dog. Any way a great video!! YANNI!
Great video, Roman and gorgeous scenery! I've been a Ford guy for many years, but that 392 Wrangler checks all the boxes that the Bronco Raptor doesn't! Those huge rubber/plastic fender flairs are just silly looking and no V6 will ever compare, sound wise, to the sound of a V8.
@jeffk464

They had to put them on there for legal reasons, but they didn't really pull off the styling. They looked just plunked on. They should have done more fender flair like they do for the F150 and Ranger Raptor. By the way if I were going to buy a Raptor I would get the Ranger not the Bronco. The Raptor pickups look bad ass.

My 2022 jeep wrangler unlimited sounds as good or better with factory pipes. But then she is a diesel, and she sounds like a diesel. When I went to finally get my dream vehicle. It was a long search. Two weeks it took me to find a diesel. That was brand spanking new. The eco-diesels are rare as hens' teeth now. I have 900 miles on her now. I bought an 8-year bumper to bumper warranty, based off not only my family's advice but everyone from the dealer to mechanics etc. She is surprisingly powerful. I'm driving her like a baby, but she jumps. Our driveway is 1/4 mile long we live in the blue ridge mountains of Va. There are no paved roads. My 3rd jeep. @@thebigfellar7178 I've been a diesel fan for many years, the torque and fuel economy are big advantages and, at least if you're a diesel fan, they sound good doing it! Years ago, we bought a used TDI "New" Beetle. We loved that car, it climbed hills like a mountain goat and achieved great fuel economy. Too bad VW had to cheat with their "diesel-gate" debacle, it was a wonderful engine.
Good morning Roman! Love your one man videos and this one did not disappoint! Go TFL!
I wheel my 392…. when I first got it I was worried about being able to take the risk of scratching it or worse. After a little while I just figured it’s a Jeep, it’s supposed to have a few scratches or a ding or two. Now I’m ok with it.
Great comparison, thank you for putting this video together… At one time I’d thought about a Bronco before they were actually out on the road and visible. Now that they’ve been out for a while, and they’re considerably fewer of them than Jeeps, I’d still purchase a Jeep as it has a history of off roading (and it just looks better)… So far as the 392 or the Raptor, if I could afford one it would be the 392.
I’d go with the 392 hands down! The Bronco has some nice features but you can’t beat that classic Jeep look with the thunder of the V8!

At 14k in mods and you saved 50k and probably have a MORE capable vehicle.
Your right about damaging the 4x4. I was living in Southern California desert and taking my lifted and re-geared Wrangler out in the desert it would be almost a $500 bill almost every time I took it out. From a broken tail light to a bent rim to a dented fender, if you really use a 4x4 it gets expensive fast. This is why I sold everything and quit off roading and now am a mountain biker driving a Ford Lightning and am saving a bunch of money!
One thing that confuses the hell out of me, is why did Ford put an analog speedo along with a massive digital one as well. I really like that Jeep kept their analog guages
@Carl-vx9ws
11 ай бұрын
I did some digging into the manual for the Bronco, and the Raptor instrument cluster was shown as what would be in any Lux equipped Bronco, and the current instrument cluster for all other trims. Considering they changed the climate control knobs on the ‘22 models (removing the temperature display inside the knob) apparently due to availability of parts, I suspect the instrument cluster was another earlier casualty of part supply issues. Aesthetically speaking, I would have preferred all digital or all analog. I do find the Jeep cluster a better mix with the upgraded “Infotainment” display. That said, I love my Bronco, having owned a 2015 JKU for over seven years, it was an upgrade for me in how I use and enjoy my vehicle. I don’t have a Raptor and can’t justify the extra cost over a very well equipped “regular” Bronco. I feel the same about the Jeep, 392 is nice I just can’t justify the price. ✌🏼
I would take my $100k and buy a Jeep Willys and do some upgrades; with the remainder of the money I'd purchase a top-of-the line mountain bike, new lightweight kayak and a Patriot camper to tow along.

Just bought my Bronco Raptor last week for a Tax right off! Haha I love it so far! I have a built dedicated off road rig with solid axles so I am definitely aware of the pros and cons of both. For me I am using the bronco for mostly on road use so I really like the comfort of the Bronco. I see your point about the jeep being more integrated with styling. But really the only visible difference between a regular jeep and the 392 is the hood. The Bronco Raptor looks completely different than the regular Bronco, no mistaking it. For me the is a personal plus. Ford made the Bronco Raptor so so much different than the regular one with a different engine, axles, suspension, looks, lights, etc.

I had a '98 XJ that I bought used in 2002. I drove it 19 years. It was mildly modified (lift kit, 31", tires, Detroit Locker, extra skid plates, and winch). Counting everything, I had about $12K invested in it. Mechanically, it was nearly bulletproof, but--like most Jeeps--it suffered from the usually litany of electrical issues. It was still going strong when I sold it when I relocated out of heavy-duty 4-wheeling country (I still have other 4WD's) and it would go anywhere that these $90K+ 4WD's will go.

We should have had bronzed. Fast forward 30 years and I'm driving a 23 Rubicon that I'll never do the crazy sh!t I did in that XJ! Thanks for spurring the memories.

I really like how you kept it real about pricing. Most people would buy these and then get too cocky, if you destroy your wheelbase in 3 foot deep of mud/quicksand even with the God Jeep, you might still get stuck. Repair for your 392 might be as much as a basic Jeep. It might never be the same again. You need to be ok with doing damage to your off roader.

Those three reasons are why I like the bronco 😂.
The advantage of buying either the Wrangler 392 or the Bronco Raptor is not needing to modify it any further. It's as complete as can be right out of the factory. I've invested probably $15k in my '21 Wrangler Rubicon adding steel bumper front and back, winch, skid plates, etc. This is a way to get to the finish line right off the lot and the best part is, all covered under a warranty. As a former Hummer H1 owner, getting over the fear of wheeling a high dollar rig is something that one needs to get over by just taking it out usually with other people who also have high dollar value rigs. The wrangler 392 and Bronco Raptor excel offroad, in wilderness settings where these vehicles truly shine. I can go places where other people just can't go. That is what makes them worth it. I'd be torn and as much as I'm a Jeep person with a Wrangler and Gladiator in the Rubicon trim, I think I'd go for the Bronco Raptor in this case.

There is no explanation because they aren't. Just heaver bound/rebound Rubicon shocks with damping rates to account for the heavier springs needed for the heavier engine. Lets not even get started on the fact that the 392 has less suspension articulation in the front because they can't let the front differential contact the oil pan...Which is achieved by using nothing more fancy than super extended front bumpstops to all but eliminate front suspension up travel.

For rock crawling, Jeep. For the desert, B-Raptor. I live in Denver, but would still buy the B-Raptor.😂

F150 Raptor is far better for desert running
I have a 2022 jeep 392, I ordered it in December 21 and received it July 4, 2022, it’s not a daily driver. I am just as excited now as I was back in July when I picked it up in 2022.. my build sticker came to a total price of 82,000 Fully loaded gorilla glass, front camera, extreme recon package.
When he asked her favorite number, she answered without hesitation that it was diamonds.
They're apples to oranges, the 392 is a hardcore articulating rock climber, the Bronco Raptor is a baja desert runner. If jeep comes up with a wrangler Mojave then it would be a fair comparison. Yet again those fender flares on the raptor are quite polarizing and makes it hard to negotiate tight trails. Ignoring the price; the jeep is a better option IMO
Roman you’re right, either of the two options are expensive for off-roading. Seems like people who will buy these two for either mall crawling and other occasional reasons.

I’ve already ordered the 392, expecting it to arrive probably in about a month. Can hardly wait…

Definitely agree in the 2017 Jeep y'all have over either the 392 or Raptor. Had a blast in my 2017. I do have a 22 JLR now but am still wheeling it, after all, that's what they're made for.
Love my 392….had a TRX previously and the 392 is just more fun. Enjoyed the video.
If I could buy one it would be the 392 Rubicon.
Bronco Raptor and Wrangler 392 are direct competitors but still excel at different things. The 392 is genuinely easier to handle in town, park, etc. The BRaptor is bigger, more comfortable and also super capable but in the rocks I still say Wrangler.

@@jeffk464 Yea, I'm on the east coast (Vermont) and the trails are so overgrown, steep, and TIGHT that my wrangler is already rubbing tires on both sides. There's no way anything wider would come through them. Well, not with fenders and body fenders intact. LOL

100% the 392 Jeep Rubicon! Honestly I'll just put the money into my 2016 JKU Sport! Ford needs to fix it's front end issues! Yes the Raptor has beefier tie rod ends then the lower Bronco's but I saw a Raptor getting dragged by a Jeep JKU Sport back down the trail due to a snapped steering gear. The soft tops are complete trash!
The Jeep. Framed doors hold up longer, particularly for off-road. ✔✔

That 392 sounds wicked 👀
If I off-roaded all the time, the 392. Otherwise, the Raptor. Your videos make me jealous of Colorado and how beautiful it is. If only CO was a full red state and no income taxes.
You do not need 4 low in the 392. The torque of the engine will pull you along just fine in 4 high.

I would have to agree with your final comment, Roman. The off-road capability of these vehicles in NO WAY justifies their humungous expense. A true off-roader isn't concerned about a ding or a dent, but if you're driving something that equals a second mortgage you're going to be a lot more discerning.
The 392 over the Bronco Raptor, provided the on road steering can take the power and does not drift all over the road. Drove a 2020 Rubicon and scared the bats out of me at 65 mph on the freeway and got a Raptor instead. BUT now for some odd reason, I would prefer the 392 ….V8 -> like you
Take the Jeep all day everyday
When it comes to the argument of IFS vs solid axle, my opinion has always been that no matter how much off-roading you do, for 90 percent of us, your vehicle is going to spend the majority of its life on paved road. Me personally would rather have that luxury of driving comfortable on paved road along with the capability the bronco has of road, but that's just my opinion.

Wrangle 392 all year long. If Ford had the common sense to put a V8 in the Bronco it might be different although I doubt it. The Wrangler 292 with solid axles and the other serious off-road use makes the Wrangler the best.
We need a bit more of "Test driven TV" approach with some of these comparisons about how it FEELS when you're going thru washboards or forest roads, and rougher terrains...Which vehicle "seems" to be put together better, as far as able to withstand everything that comes with offroading...the stats can be found online....
Well you guys feature a lot of Trucks I would dare say no one would use as intended because of the costs involved. Trx's, Raptors you name it they cost way to much to ever use off road!

I would take the 392 rubicon, that thing is a beast and it sounds awsome. For me that wanna be jeep with the little v6 isn't even something I would consider taking over the 392 wrangler rubicon.
Anyone with 100k to blow on a toy might want to take up flying.
I'll take the 392.
Oh wow! Let me think. I'd absolutely love to own neither of these vehicles! Seeing as how I don't own both I'm feeling a lot of love.
That earl grey is something else! Tried to find a gladiator in it but that and a Mojave package was almost impossible to find. I saw one and it was gone the next day. Great video as always

Bronco Rapter!!!!! For sure!
Totally agree. Ford is comfort. Gladiator is my option if only it also had a 392. We need better colors too!
If I'm going to spend 100K on an offroad vehicle. I'd buy and old Toyota Land Cruiser, rebuild the engine, upgrade the suspension, 35's on steelies, recover the seats, Line-X the floors, and fit it out with a storage and sleeping platform for overlanding. It would be way cooler than either of these. It will also still be going strong 30 years from now when the Bronco and Jeep are on their way to the scrap heap.
Really good and honest review.
It would be the ford for me. I come from a very large family & when one buys a vehicle it normally snowballs into everyone else. At one time there were probably around 30 jeeps in my family and out of those 28 gave trouble. "Interior falls apart & lots of electrical issues".

@kinsmen1764 not hardly, they've all switched to Ford, & with no issues. I myself switched 30 years ago from Chrysler to ford & all my ford's have never disappointed me, can't say the same about Chrysler. All my Chrysler products (4) had engine or transmission problems. If you like Chrysler, jeep, fiat, Peugeot, Stellantis, then that's what I'd spend my money on, & spend, & spend but for me I'll take a Ford any day.
392 is so awesome. I’d take it off road. Love my 392 Durango
Totally different vehicles. That Raptor can't navigate tight turns the Wrangler can, it can't flex like the Wrangler can, the Wrangler is way more moddable. Personally, I'd take the Wrangler but the Raptor has it's uses. I'd rather take a stock Willys and lift it and put on some 37s for half the price of a base 392.
I graduated from Wayne state in Detroit and used to dream of buying a Jeep wrangler was built next door in Toledo despite the fact that at time Lee Iacocca couldn’t figure out how to fix the door locks on the Wrangler but you had the choice of removing the whole door and drive. It had a character. But now I am back home in Kuwait and still want to own a wrangler for me and my children to use but with the 6.4 Hemi I am thinking this is gonna be like flying on Boeing sitting next to a a door blowout.
I bought my Raptor for $86k... it makes me smile everytime I drive it.
I would definitely buy the Jeep. The Broncos just looks like you're trying to make it to futuristic and that's not usually wanted on an off-road vehicle. You want something it is more rugged
