    I like the wheels on the battering ram t-boner rig. I know my 98 F-150 is poor in these tests, so I tend to drive more sanely.

    My F 150 saved my life I am eternally grateful after rolling over fourtimes at70 mph coming to rest in the center median I walked away without a scratch thanks to my seatbelt and my F150.. I wish I could personally thank the engineers at Ford… an awesome truck .. get one !

    In the updated moderate overlap, do you think that “submarining” exacerbated the injury risk for the rear passenger’s neck and chest due to excessive shoulder belt movement?

    @@Starky513 - Yeah... tell that to the owners of the 5.0 that had cylinder deformation or the 3.5 Ecobrokes with cam phaser, timing chain, waste gate issues... you can go back and see that F-150s always had issues with cams, lifters, or cam phasers.

    @@Starky513 - The 4.6L were tanks, especially the ones in the Crown Vics. The 3V 5.4 weren't really as good as thats when the cam phaser, lifter, and cam issues started. Early 5.0s had the cylinder deformation which Ford addressed on the 2nd Gen coyote in the F-150. I think now the 5.0 is the most reliable choice. I've heard too many horror stories with the 3.5 Ecoboost, and its too early to get an idea on the latest F150

    Why didn't you include some clips from the 2015 F-150 Supercab test? People should know what kind of deathtrap the IIHS determined it to be. It's a good warning to all the guys that cut those deflection bars off the frame so they can fit oversized tires too. If you buy a used 2015+ F-150, make sure the last guy didn't cut those bars off or you are driving a rolling deathtrap.

    The Ford F-150 will be refreshed for 2024 which will hopefully improve these ratings

  • @crashcore_cc

    Indeed, it is being refreshed, but I haven’t seen any changes that suggest an improvement in these crash tests. We’ll likely have to wait until the full redesign in a couple of years.

    Do you think the Ford Expedition or Chevrolet Tahoe would do better in the updated moderate overlap?

  • @crashcore_cc

    @crashcore_cc

    If we assume that these SUVs will perform similarly to their full size pickup brothers (F-150 and Silverado), then they would likely both get a poor rating.

  • @matthewmooney4301

    Let’s say the Ford Expedition performs similarly to other Ford SUVs rather than the F-150, what are the chances of that happening?

  • @crashcore_cc

    @crashcore_cc

    8 ай бұрын

    Comparing it to other SUVs, the Explorer does much better than the Traverse. However, the Expedition and Tahoe don’t have much in common with these unibody SUVs and share more with their pickup siblings. There are so many variables in a crash test, that it’s hard to predict until the test is completed.

    Keep in mind that this crash test game is a game where they are constantly moving the goal posts. Overall, most of these trucks are quite good in general. These guys bread and butter is tested vehicles having a high failure rate so they can crow about how bad vehicles are at protecting occupants. So when vehicles get better, they come up with a revised test so they can fail every one again. So we keep having apples and oranges results here. Another result is as they keep hardening these vehicles for the next level crash test, they get heavier and more expensive. These trucks now commonly weigh more than 7,000 pounds, even a significant number are over 8,000 pounds. That does not bode well for impacts with smaller more light weight vehicles, let alone just pedestrians who happen to become impact victims.

    While this is true in multi-vehicle collisions, in single-vehicle collisions (such as hitting a pole) heavier vehicles experience greater crash forces.
