Ford Crown Victoria Fuel Pump Replacement FAIL!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Do not make my mistakes. See end of video. Do repair right the first time:
1. Replace fuel filter too. It may be cause of pump failure.
2. Use top quality part. Not sure where you get those. My eBay pump failed after 15 minutes.
3. Use metal fuel line quick connect tool. Plastic did not work.
I did not have to drop gas tank but it was a lot of work (twice). This is 2003 LX model but other years should be similar. Had OBD code scan error P1237 and diagnosed FPDM, fuel pump driver model to determine pump failure.

Having same problem Kent. This video is a classic keepsake for Crown Victoria owners. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Very intuitive and helpful. When taking that connector off, a right angle pick pressing on the top where the seam is should work like a charm. Thanks again!!!

I want you to know that your video was very informative and gave me the courage to do this myself. Of course my cheap replacement assembly was crap and when I connected the float, the retaining clip broke. I now have a working pump from rebuilding the old one with the new pump. You are a special person and I love you.

You don't have to disconnect the fuel tank pressure sensor connector. You can pull it's wires and terminals out of the 8-pin connector. Look into the end of the 8-pin connector (it will only have 6 pins in it, 2 pins aren't populated), you'll see a red piece of plastic between the terminal pins. Yank it out with needle nose pliers. Then make a note or take a picture of how the wires for the pressure sensor are lined up in the connector. Then, for each of the 3 wires that go to the pressure sensor, you'll lift the locking tang (with a pick or a jeweler's screwdriver) for that terminal and wire while pulling on it. It'll slide out of the connector and out of the rubber seal at the back of the connector. You'll do this for the 8-pin connector that came with the new fuel pump assembly as well. Re-installing the terminals from the fuel pressure sensor wiring is as easy as sticking them back in the connector till they seat fully and lock, and after they are all inserted, put the red plastic piece back in place.

Do you mean de-pin the connector at the sensor, eg. on top of the tank? Seems like that could be just as or more difficult than getting the whole thing unplugged, although it is an alternative that no one else has mentioned so far if your connector is just stuck to dickens...

Great idea, in my case, my connector doesn't even look like any of these gray connectors in KZread videos. It's black and shaped differently, looks more like a fuel injector plug.

Very informative video. I am presently facing this with my 2003 G.Marquis. with ONLY 42k miles ! Car died, got towed home and it coded P1237. I have 12v present at FPDM. Tried bypassing the FPDM but still no start. No continuity through pump. My decision now is whether replace entire assembly or just the pump.

I'm about to replace the entire assembly in my 95 town car because the steel lines coming out of the sending unit rotted out and it leaks gas and the gauge doesn't work either. Bought a spectra premium. Everything looked legit except for the check valve on the end of the return line that lives in the tank. The flat rubber washer was off center. Always inspect parts carefully before doing any disassembly.

My '02 starts, idles and drives well, but when I get to a stop it struggles to take off, when I'm at the highway at 40-50mph, if I try to hit the gas it kinda shakes on the back, no mention i can't get it past 60mph if I get to it when I press the gas to the bottom I've cleaned the MAF sensor, changed spark plugs, a bad ignition coil, fuel filter, air filter (it had a really bad 'high flow' filter and I replaced it for the stock one and it did make a big difference in power and acceleration, but still have this problem) Could this be a bad fuel pump?

I just finished replacing the fuel pump module on my 02 Crown Vic. I swear, Ford made a simple job complicated on purpose and most of it had to do with the electrical connections !! I ended up dropping the tank. The worst part now is getting the fuel tank straps back on correctly. I'm sure there's a secret to getting it done, I'll leave it to my local shop.

Why would you refuse to just buy the 'original' Ford Factory Fuel Pump? All the aftermarket fuel pumps are knockoff scams which have pathetic longevity. After 400,000 miles, my original Ford Factory Fuel Pump still works flawlessly on my 2008 Lincoln Town Car. So, another new identical one is the only option for true peace of mind.

MSRP for 'original' Ford Factory Fuel Pump in a 3004 Crown Fic is $500, with a 1 year warranty. Compare that to an aftermarket that is 1/4 of that price with a 3 year warranty. I guess it would make sense to replace a 2020 or any year model that is worth significantly more than the actual fuel pump price. No way in hell will I pay $500 for a fuel pump with a 1 year warranty that will go into a 2003 Crown Vic that is worth no more than $1500. GTFOH. Stealerships parts departments want you to think that aftermarket parts are bad. Most of them are better.
