Last year (Jan 2022) I was trying to narrow a search down between the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, Ford Bronco 4dr Badlands Sasquatch, and Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road Premium. I was leaning towards the Bronco, but none were around and the pricing was insane. The Badlands with the 2.7L, pkg to get heated seats and a hardtop roof was pushing close to $70K Cdn, and then another $6K for Sasquatch package … and this is before any mark up pricing. Based on that, I had to rule it out and reviewed the Gladiator. Rubicon Jeep dealers did have stock, but added accessories to help inflate the price and it started to creep close to $70K. I went to the Toyota dealership, ordered 4Runner TRD Off Road which had an MSRP of $55K, and because of a personal connection to the dealership … got $2K off MSRP (I also had a personal connection to a Ford dealership, but they were not going to budge). I later found out from a couple of mechanic friends just how reliable the 4Runner is. My neighbour did get a Bronco 4dr Black Diamond with the Sasquatch pkg., he still paid $70K for it. It is definitely a bigger vehicle and definitely built with more clearance, and lots of nice tech (clear view of cameras). However, he’s already been in the shop twice, once without the vehicle for 5 weeks. I got my 4Runner 4 months after I ordered it, and have spent about $6K in changes (2.5” / 1” lift kit, KDSS spacer kit, diff breather, 285/70s Toyo AT3 OC tires, throttle booster, skid plates, UCA upgrade). Definitely fun and capable now. My off-road gas mileage is about the same as my neighbours Badlands (we’ve been on 3 trails together). Trails around here (Ontario, Canada) are mostly forest trails, tight forest service roads, and there was one he couldn’t continue with us (another 4Runner, an FJ and 3 Jeeps) as he was too wide. I never had thought about that during my purchasing decision making. 3 months after I had ordered my 4Runner, a couple of the Jeep dealers called me back as they started heavily discounting due to stagnant inventory. In fact, one black Gladiator Rubicon I looked at in Feb 2022, was still on the lot in June! In the local 4Runner club, there are quite a few vehicles that have over 250K kms on it with no major work done.

I overland 4Runner is the best even though bronco is more capable off-roading I seen broncos going into limp mode don’t need that I know that the 4Runner is a dinosaur but, I go for reliability and resale if I’m out overlanding the one thing you don’t need is problems 4Runner way better quality sorry bronco jeep. I’ve all ready had to give my buddy a ride to the shop to pick up his bronco due to leaky strut’s

Airline flight was cancelled so I rented a 4runner and drove it from Montana to Colorado. Horrible gas milage, seats were hard to get comfortable in, very underpowered. The whole drive I was hoping that my 2022 bronco badlands would be better than this. Fast forward a year later, I now have my Bronco and it is hands down the better choice. Time will tell on reliability as the 4runners are very good in that category. For comfort and ability my choice will always be the Bronco

Comparing a full-size Bronco to a mid-size 4Runner is like comparing a F150 to a Tacoma. Of course, the F150 is going to have more horsepower and torque, of course it is going to be bigger. That’s why one is “full-size” and one is “mid-size”. If you want to do a fair comparison, you need to compare the Bronco to the new Sequoia or a LC300 Land Cruiser. The Sequoia and LC300 are Toyota’s full-size SUVs. The Bronco Sport and the 4Runner are in the same class. I also notice you don’t say anything about reliability and build quality. Which one will be the most reliable over then next 10-15 years?? Yes, the Toyota Sequoia and LC cost more, but you get what you pay for. The new Broncos are cool, but not the same quality and reliability of a Toyota and clearly not in the same catagory as a 4Runner. It's not fair to say "apples taste more like apples" when you are comparing apples to oranges. Would you choose a Bronco Sport over a 4Runner? This is the more appropriate question!

I always wanted the 4Runner, but I found out 3 to 4 years ago that the Bronco was coming out! So I waited and now I have a 4 door Sasquatch badlands with the 2.7, and a 2 door base with the 2.3 automatic and couldn’t be happier. By the way I did sale 3 2021 Toyotas to buy Fords!! That’s krazy!

I’m going Bronco because all of the modern creature comforts. Also, having to spend additional money to make the 4Runner more off road capable is a big issue for me when I can get the Bronco from the factory ready to go!

I've had a ton of sports cars none of them makes me as happy as i am when i driving my 2dr big bend bronco. The bronco feels more like an agile truck and the 4runner feels more like a full-size suv. My mom had multiple 4th gens an a 5th gen 4runner. I learned how to drive in a 4runner both are great off-road but in my opinion the Bronco is better right off the assembly line. The money people will spend to make a 4runner more capable off-road on 37s, can get you a bronco on 40s and axles with less body work.

I had to wait ....Two years, eight months and two weeks. I got what I wanted. It is a two door base with SAS, manual, 2.3. I have had it for three weeks. $43,600 sticker, I got it for just over $36,000. It was worth the wait to get what I wanted at the price I wanted.

Interesting upper price comparison (approx. $55K). If my Bronco w/front-rear lockers & stabilizer bar disconnect is $55, how much would I have to add to $55K on the 4-Runner to get that off road capability? Another 6-10K? Nice video guys, enjoyed it and looking forward to your next Bronco vs ?

So unrealistic on your pricing. Find a Bronco Badlands, lux, Sasquatch, hardtop, towing package, bull bar, etc. for 55k. The Ford Dealerships have been RAPING the public. Also, the reliability of the 4runner should not be discounted. We have a Badlands as spec'd above. I also have a 4runner TRD Off Road Premium. If you watch a lot of TFL videos, the Bronco can go places easier than the 4runner, but the 4runner still makes it.. Stock.

I have a 4Runner, would much rather have the Bronco, I just can't afford one. My 4Runner is 10 years old and it still looks pretty much like the new one. It really is super outdated, and it was kind of dated when it was released in 2010, as it had a lot of mechanical carryovers from the previous generation. As was said at the end, the 4Runner is not "fun", I see it as an appliance. Person buys a 4Runner because they know it's solid, and they expect it to always work when they need it to.

I choose the Bronco hands down. The 4Runner is a dinosaur. Only 5 speed tranny, motor is under powered compared to the Bronco. There is no real front lockers. If you compare the gas efficiency, my bros 4 runner with 33” tires was going 80MPH up the mountain pass and was only getting 9mpg. The Bronco with 35” tires 2.7 motor can do it at 15mpg going 80MPH even up to 90 MPH no problem. We’ll see what the new gen 4 runner will have but definitely the current 4 runner is super outdated.
