That guy just came out of nowhere! Hilarious having the fishing so good that people want to swim to the spot. It’s sad to hear you won’t be casting in the kenai but you know we’ll hold it down for ya. I know all about those projects needing attention, especially this time of year. I hate saying it but it’s already getting darker and colder and everything is staying wet…!

You got it! The water is rising and moving way fast now. That bead will slice through it like you want this time of year. Caught 5 Dolly Varden and 2 trout on that rig yesterday. The red hook draws them in too I think. I love it when people say they’re watching fishing shows at work… cracks me up! I know the feeling!

I tried in Homer over a two day period, in the lagoon but a seal ruined it the entire time🤷‍♀️ So I'll definitely be a viewer of your stuff, it's gorgeous out there! Tightlines fish heads🎣

Thank you, this was a fun one. The scaler I use is a heavy duty wire brush. It has a full handle that wraps your hand. Any stiff wire brush does the trick and instantly removes fish slime, scales, sea lice and other undesirables. This brush has a composite body and last long than wood. Super tough and going on 5 seasons now. The wires are starting to rust out so I’m looking for a new one. Found this one at trustworthy hardware store in Soldotna.

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce puts on a Silver Salmon Derby Sept 12-17 kenaisilversalmonderby.com There should still be plenty of fish in the river right after that. Salmon roe, spinning lures and flossing beads all work to catch silvers. We will be fishing the River Center, Swiftwater and Rotary areas looking for salmon. Timing is everything. The fish fill up the river with the incoming tide and push up river through all of these areas. The early morning bite is usually the best. Were getting lots of rain and wind now and losing our daylight fast! Good luck out there on the water!

For the bead setup for the silvers how are you fishing it in the river? Are you still flipping and trying to either hook reds and silvers or are you fishing it different since silvers intentionally hit it.

  • @alaskasmallcraftadventures

The bead is for the flossing technique. There’s no difference in the way I fish for silvers and reds. However, if you’re fishing early morning, then expect silvers and trout to attack and feed. I’ll be using salmon roe and casting spinners soon. We’ve already seen several silvers at Swiftwater so they’re coming in!
