For those who were paying attention to the Kasilof, last Saturday and Sunday were absolutely crazy. Six fish limits were quite common.

Absolutely! That place was swamped with fish! Kenai sized pushes of fish into a smaller river is quite the recipe for success! Thanks for the update!
I cut tails at the last pin bone too. ✌

You guys worked out a great team work system for fishing that high water. Well done.

Teamwork makes the dream work! Every time we landed a fish another fisherman would crowd onto the spot so being able to limit out without moving was key. Plus, it ain’t no picnic standing out there in that current! Get in and get out. Vinny and I make a plan first and then we work it! Keeps everyone safe and having a good time. 😎🎣🐟
So stoked to watch this since I cant be there this year. I caught myself smiling ear to ear then entire video. It's so awesome to see familiar spots and the fish coming in and just the stoke of everyone there. Keep it up bro, I love the content.

Great job! My buddy has been slaying them the last couple days, easy limits. I'll be there Sunday.

I keep only giant slab males, no net, snag, or seal Mark's, and chrome fish only. Gotta catch extra to get there. Waiting for the next push. Only got 1 chance this year. I like fishing the Naptowne Rapids. Trapper scotty,Alaskan

I love being able to sort through them on a nice day of fishing. Sometimes I don’t even take home my limit because of this. It’s a lot more work but if the fish are in then its worth it!
I'm going tomorrow!!!!!

The fishing has only improved! No rain down here for a week has those fish slowed down and the river is still plugged off. You're going to be waist deep in 'em! If I get some time I'll try a pop in on you! I think I'm going fishing tonight at the end of Funny River Road... its HOT everywhere right now.

Love the videos. Been a year in Alaska in Matsu Valley. Made a couple runs to the Ferry flossing and caught a limit once, bust a couple other (way it goes). But wanting to bring son (11) and camp a night or two while we fish/floss. Thinking of couple these parks your vids have shown or going down to Kasilof (Crooked Creek) Sunday-Tuesday. Always take local input!

Thanks for the love!! These vids are tough to make but always a treat to revisit so I love them myself as well! When I was 11 the very first Kenai River camp trip I ever went on was at Swiftwater Park. It was of course extremely different back then but it still has a lot of its original magic that I fell in love with as a child. The setting in the woods with its large trees and over grown ferns made days out in the forest playing memorable. S'mores, grilled food and staying up late keeping warm by the campfire before crawling into a tent that was so much fun to set up! With all of that said, the absolute best part was the river! Seeing fisherman carrying their catch up the pathways like trophies earned while battling the elements! Everyday, all I ever wanted to do was catch my own to show my grandparents who encouraged me to keep at it while making me feel like I had all the luck in the world when my patience paid off!!! Wherever you decide to go, know that every part the adventure is what your son will remember. All of the little things are what's going to create the difference, so make the most of it!

Swift water was nuts last night. Combat fishing at its finest. I landed one nice one, 3 others broke off as I was trying to get them in the net. I might try College hole tomorrow. Is that where you were at the end of the video?

I bet! Combat fishing everywhere. Usually people catch their 3 and rotate out. ADFG says limit to 6 this weekend which will add to the carnage of combat fishing! Yea the second part was at College hole.

We ended up at Upper Moose Meadow. We had four non-locals fishing. Took about two hours to limit. Lots of fouled hooks, but the ones we landed were big
Awesome! I’m coming the 2nd week of august. Think they will still be catching sockeye then?

I’ll be up in Soldatna next week visiting my brother-in-law. Never been to Alaska before so I’m excited to hopefully catch my first AK fish! I noticed only fly rods though, can I fish with a spinning setup or is there somewhere I can rent a fly rod? Thanks for these videos! It’s giving me an idea of what to expect 🤙🏼

I'll also be heading to AK next week. Yes, you can use a spinner. I believe the ADGF rents out fishing gear. Good luck on your trip
@alaskasmallcraftadventures

Any rod and reel setup will work. We run fly gear because it’s lighter weight and tangles less, usually. I’d say the majority of fishermen use spinning reels or bait casters it’s just not my preference. Seriously though, a tree branch with a line and hook could catch a fish today! 🐟🎣
Hell yah man way to go. I wonder if the fish stay on the south bank and north banks or do they eventually cross ? What do u think. Yah u had some toads. I’m stuck umping LL till Saturday so I’m kinda sad ,,,,,lol. But I get energized by watching ur vids tell yah

I like how the fish count is saying which bank the fish are on now, I never noticed that in years past. My guess though is that they pick a side and stick to it until they reach the lake. There should be plenty of opportunity over the next month to get an easy hookup so good luck of you make it out! The place is coming alive and the energy is in the air!
Been enjoying your vids and tips. What is your prediction for the first week of August, will the run be better?
@alaskasmallcraftadventures
Жыл бұрын
Every spot will be filled by then. Dip netting at the mouth usually ends by august and has the potential to let more fish through as well. More silvers and pinks. Sockeye will be plentiful but they’re in a hurry to spawn so they don’t stick around for long!

Right now I’m rockin a Shakespeare Uglystik big water 9wt fly rod and a okuma 8/9 reel. It’s an affordable option for banging up on these salmon. Fly rods are nice and light weight. Great for repetitive motion without the tangles. You’ll love it once you reel a fish in!
Do you do any beach fishing for halibut? If so, can you catch them off the beach in August?
@alaskasmallcraftadventures
Жыл бұрын
You can catch halibut from the shore May-September from Kenai to Homer. Look at Whiskey Gulch beach access just North of Anchor Point for one of my favorite spots! The halibut will stick around until the salmon are finished running so there’s plenty of time to fish ‘em!
Almost 20 years ago me and a buddy got two kings out of college hole that were almost 60 pounds a piece he hit the male first and disappeared around the bend for half the day. Come to find out it dragged and fought them to the Kenai Bridge before giving up. Mine on the other hand was the female and I subdued her in less than 5 minutes, She just gave up after the hook set.

Yes, fishing Alaska was such an experience back then. Lots of big fish to be had, but it wasn't until 2021 that I broke into the 100 pound plus halibut club. that was the last year I have been up there. I still love red fishing the best though.
Nice video. Whats the current limit on Kenai ?
@alaskasmallcraftadventures
Жыл бұрын
Kenai sockeye limit is at 3 per person per day right now. Alaska ADFG allows fishing by proxy if you file paperwork at a field office. Then you can catch an additional limit each day. Certain requirements must be met in order to do this, advise ADFG if interested! 😎🎣🔥

All you guys that snag in the body or mouth, you should try using a pheasant tail nymph that imitates zooplankton. I have fly-fished for sockeye for over 45 years and get them to hit that nymph all the time. Please don't snag or floss. You will hurt our King salmon and rainbows.
