My wife and I just got back last week from Soldotna. And good god your piece of the world sure is incredible.. Caught an unguided shore limit for 2 people of coho at the height of the flood on my third day! Granted the spots i was fishing cleared out as the waters dropped and fish moved up. I was so happy to prove I could do it for myself. We did some guided trips later on that were great also. Many thanks to you for the info you have shared here that has helped!

Yes! Sound like you nailed a stellar window for some good fishing. It’s awesome to get that sense of accomplishment when you pull off a great adventure. Congrats to you guys! And for sure, you’re welcome. Thanks for watching the show.

Here's the real version I wanted to release yesterday with full Audio and SFX. Rookie mistake on the first upload, thanks for understanding I'm learning as I go.

Right on! Always a pleasure hearing I added some value. The river is still frozen over good right now but I’m getting anxious to add more content soon, thanks for subscribing!
Great video, looks like you were having fun, as you should. Got a video suggestion for you if possible, try to hit some of the major fishing holes (Bings, Swiftwater, Moose Meadows, etc...) during the late fall, and show what those spots look like without high water, and maybe try to recover the hundreds of rigs broke off on rocks?... IDK that would be interesting to show

I like this idea! When the water goes back down I’ll look for a few of those goldmines to pick through and see what I can find!
How are you guys doing with the flood? Any better? Hope you and everyone ok.
@alaskasmallcraftadventures

It’s not any better. Lots of river cabins and buildings are filled up with water right now. It’ll be awhile before the water goes down and the damage can be assessed. Those fish sure like being able to scoot right on through though..
Eating on my sockeye I got out there every weekend👌🏻😋 what’s your fav smoking method bud?

I’m actually going to release a short vid on one of the ways I smoke up my fish, just got done making it. I use a Bradley electric smoker nowadays. Super convenient compared to a lot of other ways out there. 24 hr Brine, rinse, dry, smoke..

I tried to use mono on my fly reel this year for sockeye and just didn't like the feel or how fast the drift was. Great videos.

It’s different for sure. Most of the time you’ll want a glove too because it cuts into your hand after a long day of flipping. It’s nothing like speying with nice buttery fly line.

It seems the returns were later in a few key places this year. sitting and waiting, then wondering if it's another run failure. I mentioned in another thread how valdez known for their massive run of big silvers was off this year. It was next to nothing until right after labour day, even then, the fish were noticeably smaller. I think the derby WINNER was only 14 this year and i saw daily prize leaders in the #8 and #9

Kenai is hit or miss right now. Kasilof is where the limits are. The kenai derby runs this week so hopefully we see some more come in.

What you guys can't use shrimp as bait even?
@alaskasmallcraftadventures

They had ALL bait shut off all season. I constantly get told that were snagging fish and should be using coon shrimp to catch sockeye. With bait shut off we dont even get to try. However, ADFG just opened bait and maybe its time to experiment!
