So many possible causes of foot hotspots, so little means of self-diagnosis. A rider could spend many months and hundreds of dollars trying to solve this and never hit on the right combination of factors. My hotspots are in my arches, right foot worse, and occur at about the one-hour mark. All it takes is two or three minutes off the bike to return to normal--hotspots gone--but they return quickly once I'm pedaling again. I'm going to begin trying some of these concepts, but who knows if I'll ever discover the right answer.

Thanks for this. I did already find I was gripping with my toes and it tended to make my big toe especially go numb after an hour or so. Moving the cleat backwards helped a lot and it also felt like it allowed me to drop my heel more during the stroke, the result of which is more comfort and also feels more powerful especially when climbing. Enjoy your videos. Thanks! 🥳👍

Good points. I had a little bit of pain issues on a 3.000km trip. However I will try different insoles first and tighten my shows more.

Thanks for another great video. I hadn't thought about the transverse arch at all. Lack of support there is probably causing some of my foot pain. Could you name some of the inserts you recommend? (Solestar and Icebug insoles were shown on the video?)

Thank you so much for the info about double crush phenomena... I am struggling with foot numbness on one side after 1.5 hrs ride since this spring, which fits with the moment I fell down on my sacrum while cleaning my pool. I have tried everything (arch support, changing for bigger shoes, wedges, saddle up, saddle down, fore and aft, cleat position, metatarsial dome....) to no avail. After watching your video, I tried to stretch on the bike once the symptoms appeared by anteriorly tilting my pelvis : I was able to immediatly feel my toes again: the problem is not in the feet!!! I think I have a flexibility issue since my accident and I am not able to rotate the pelvis properly on the saddle in my mildly agressive position, leading to a hunched back on the bike and probably irritating/pinching the nerve between L5/S1. I will work on my harmstring flexibility and try to up the stack by 10mm until the symptoms alleviate. Thank you so much, after spending 1000€ on different shoes/insoles I would still have thought it is coming from the feet!

Great stuff!! Do you have any experience with someone getting a metatarsal stress-reaction which might be due to too short cycling shoes..? (in my case it was the 3rd metatarsal, and not related to running so have to be somekind of pressure from cycling..)

Hi, Thanks for your useful channel. I would like to ask you a question related to the PCO if I may. I have noticed that both my feet to pedal yields + 30 mm. So off the chart. I am concerned about it. Should I worry about it and should I try to correct it if it is a power leaking point? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Male age 56. Loved running and swimming. Started training for tri june 2021. Last spring got new Cervelo tri bike frustrated with people blowing my me on bike section of tri. Speed jumped by training with coach. This past summer trained a lot on hills 2x week. Around 2 hr into ride both Achilles started hurting. When I got off bike the pain lessened. All joints have hood flexibility. Trained thru discomfort and did my first half Ironman. Achilles hurt day before when I did practice swim but not at all during race. Took time off to let heal then got MRI no tears just Achilles tendonotis. Sports doctor said to resume training and use pain as a guide. Found out by bike seat had dropped 1-2”. Bike fixed been doing rehab religiously with strength training, mobility, plyo metrics and adding jump rope and smaller jumps. Indoor biking the same pain basically took 3.5 months off for nothing and lost all my fitness. I had to stop at 55 min at 95watts pace. I had done lower time on bike no pain and built up time on bike. Pain is at Achilles insertion and higher up on Achilles. Please help

Is hot spot pain more prevalent with Spd (Mtb) shoes? I wear Spd shoes for road cycling and sometime experience pain around cleat area after more than 2 hour ride. I wonder if road shoes (Keo cleat, Spd SL) might help.

Came here because every ride after 50k my balls of my feet start hurting that much from pressure, that i have to stop constantly every 10k or so for a minute. I got rid of my hand numbness completely by putting the saddle further back, wich released pressure from the hands. I tink its going to be the same thing here...just to much pressure. So I'm going to test the arch support thing :)

Do you have any tips to what can be done to put the cleats further back if the toes are already hitting the front tire? Other than shorter cranks... Thanks

Different frame and learn not to overlap your feet when turning.

You can drill your shoe, get speedplay and use the extender plate, get a shoe like Shimano or Lake(italian brands and older brands usually have too forward cleat placement) which have an additional 10-11mm rearward placement. A short wheelbase however is also just the consequence of a demand for responsive racing geometries. For your next bike you could consider a different brand like Lapierre og Cannondale if you want a longer front center relative to the bike size. As has been said though, cornering/turning technique is a pretty big cause. You shouldn't be pedalling in tight corners and should be leaning through corners as much as possible/comfortable rather than turning into them.

@@yannickokpara4861 my frame is actually bigger than it should. I've never got overlap while cornering at speed, only in very tight spaces, like traffic lights. I guess it's normal then. I ride mostly in town and use mtb pedals

Canyon sells its XS and 2XS bikes with 650b wheels. That's something to consider next to shorter cranks and also as Yannick mentioned, different a shoe. The holes position differ in model, brand and design year. I'm 5'6 and experience the same overlap, but it doesn't bother me as I ride a road bike and rarely come across that issue
