This system has saved my sanity. I had never implemented any routine or system of any kind. Menopause hit me and my brain became very foggy. Quite depressed, felt everything was too much. I had seen this system on a different channel but it did not click. I came by Diane in Denmark by chance and I got hooked. Two years following and my life has changed , I declutter every day and follow the system to the T. :-)

@@thatswhatisaid8908 I have gone back to flylady a couple of times but I find it too overwhelming. I have a simpler system now, with just a list of what I must do each day to keep up. My husband has to help with some things, such as floor mopping, because I have chronic pain from an old injury. I have to keep things pretty simple. I do certain things each day, such as pick up, wipe bathrooms down, clean up pet areas, etc. If and when I can, I do extra, such as dust, clean glass, wipe out frig.

I work really long hours. So I adapted the zones... By having the zones just on the weekend I never have a week that is part one zone and part another. Typically I have four zones and I don't have a fifth one. I simply divided my most-used rooms into four zones very similar to the flylady but only 4 Zones not 5. In September, there are five weekends. I do a major declutter project whenever there's a fifth weekend or I do something else major like shampooing carpeting. This last weekend, I filled my car with donations to charity. And I have another load of recycling towels and clothes that I will take care of this week. All together, it was three large trash bags and four boxes of things that have left my home. And now this coming weekend will be Zone one for me. I have been using flylady since the 1990s. I really enjoy your videos thank you very much.

Hi, I discovered you 4 weeks ago when Kenya went into self isolation . I have worked away from home for 37 years but had a great home manager. So corona came and I found myself clueless on how to start..then I met you and you said shine the sink... .that was like an aha moment so for a few days all I did was make sure the sink is clear at the end of the day and shinning....I wake up in the morning with a whole new day. It's made a big difference. Thank you I'm taking each step slowly so that I build the habit before I move on. Thanks Munira from Kenya Africa

Zones are the part of Flylady that actually helped me the most! I love knowing what area of my house should have my focus, instead of running around and getting nothing done OR not letting myself stop working on an area because it wasn't 100% finished. Which is what I used to do. Not ANYMORE!

  • @1KCITE

Boy, are you right! My house wasn't clean because I was sitting on my butt! I have an autoimmune disease that has wreaked havoc on my body and I suffer from chronic fatigue and many other, crazy, things. I just found the fly lady method, after watching so many clean with me videos that really didn't do anything for my motivation. I just couldn't relate. I watched a video from another KZreadr (she mentioned you) and the five minute timer just made sense! I did my first day of setting five minute timers to declutter and just get things done. I'm sure I didn't do this the "right" way, but I DID IT!! I HAVEN'T HAD THIS MOTIVATION IN YEARS!

To be honest, the right products make a Difference! Omg i Had all products and everything (cluttering in my cabinet) But now I just use the essentials and Tbh, my Favorite ones are: dish soap, something abrasive, vinegar and good quality cloth. And a brush. Very oldschool. I started cleaning and started decluttering my cleaning cabinet too :)

I started zone cleaning 10 months ago and I think I spend less total time cleaning. Before, I would get carried away cleaning too much and lose track of time. Now I know the zone will come around again, so I can focus more on just my weekly zone tasks. Adding the timer is a magic trick to stop myself from getting side tracked. Hurray for zones and routines and decluttering!!!!

Diane you explain things so well. At the beginning I had so many problems understanding how zones worked really, and this refresher, even if it is not new, is timeless. Thank you:) I decided to give a full week to each zone; that means I'm not syncronised with daily missions etc. But I can always catch up with those and use them during my zone

Thanks for making cleaning a little more fun for me. I have in past years been really fascinated by danish simple lines in architecture, design and furniture. Thank you for sharing your energy and time. 💞

I know it's not a fashion video, but I sure do love your hair :) So lovely that way, and the blue heart necklace really suits you as well with that glorious dress. Guess what? I have decluttered over a dozen pieces of my clothing because they did not suit me as a DYT2 and I feel so relieved to have them gone. It especially feels good that they are going to bless someone else when they were making me feel "not pretty." So now, not only is everything falling into place with "Flying," but it is falling into place knowing my energy and self better as far as dressing. I know this might sound silly, but the daily focus even becomes more clear when everything is "true" to myself. I know we are in Zone 2 kitchen, but I did not have anything to declutter in our kitchen so I was free to declutter my clothing. Yes, you are proof that this system works, esp with a house your size looking so beautiful. It's what inspired me in the beginning, from our 1400 square foot home to your 3000 square foot home.... ~Cheers~Tea for me of course ((smiles))

My house was so disgusting I was becoming really depressed. I discovered the fly lady system a couple of days ago and wow what a difference already! The Weekly Blessing transformed the place in just one hour! I am working on the daily routines with a little decluttering when I feel in the mood. Your videos are great and helping me to keep motivated - baby steps are going to be the answer!

2 yrs ago I moved in with my son, in his mobile/ manufactured home. I'm 70 with some heart problems so can't go Gung Ho at everything anymore. I love how you help us reinterpret Flylady's methods to fit each of us. I always had problems with her system when I was a caregiver for my disabled husband. He is now in a care facility. I felt lost when I had to stay home (covid) and was in a new place in WA state where there is seldom any sunshine. Diane, you are a great motivator! (I grew up in Texas, but Daddy was from Denmark.)

Love that you've been experimenting with a new evolution of your style.... sometimes spikier, sometimes softer. I think this particular way of doing your hair is soooo flattering... where it's still got some texture but it's not as stiff and spiky- in this video there is that lovely natural movement and shape and here you just lightly tuck it behind your ears. We have seen several new variations on this and really I think this particular version of the "new style" is just so lovely and flattering!

Another great video. It's sweltering here but after my morning routine I set the timer for 5 minutes and quickly polished kitchen cabinets. I then in the next 15 minutes swept and mopped cleaned back door then swept and mopped back patio. Go me! We are flying . We spent day at the seaside taking our lunch with us. I at last painted my nails yesterday. Lots of love from Margaret in Cyprus

I have a personal schedule for the week that covers my workouts, reading, meditation, beauty routines etc. I print it out on Sunday for the upcoming week. (My work TO DO list is separate) So, I have now added a second page (prints on the back page of my existing schedule so I am not using any extra paper) and I have placed all my rooms on that sheet with a zone indicator (1,2,3 etc.). I am now tackling 3 rooms a day (mopping kitchen floors, dust and vacuum dining room and de-clutter laundry room as they are all close together and take less than 15 minutes). I find that by doing 3 rooms/rows a day on a weekly rotation allows me to stay on top of the detail and the ONE 'organize/de-clutter' drawer or closet is done in that room per zone week during the month. It works for me and I get it all done as I am already clean/de-cluttered now and so in the lovely maintenance mode :-) keeping up requires consistency but it is worth it to keep the house now looking continuously sorted/organized clean with a light airy feel. Over the past 6 months probably donated 50 bags of STUFF to the Good Will or charity shops as you call them in Europe...Hugs Diane....love your channel..

When I get really involved in a client project or writing piece, I can go down the rabbit hole. Apart from getting the dogs walked and fed, and keeping the house from falling down, I'm pouring myself into the project. (I am a DYT Type 4, so I know I have that all-or-nothing trait!) Anyhoo, the point of sharing that part is this: You are such a wonderful accountability partner for me to keep coming back to. When I catch myself mid-rabbit-hole, I tune in to your latest video and get the inspiration (and gentle bahookie-kick) that I need to remind myself to get back to balance. Though sometimes, things have gone awry in the interim ... this weekend I realized I couldn't remember when I last vacuumed the carpeted 2nd floor and staircase. Given that we have two German Shedders (German Shepherds), let's just say that I emptied that Dyson cannister, oh, about a billion times before I was done. Yikes! (Thank you for being my Jiminy Cricket -- no telling how fuzzy things could get without you.)

To divide my home into zones, I look at how many windows there are and divide by 4. Zone 5 is still where the tv is. And I include the garage in zone 1. In the home I am in now, it happens to work out with the FL system. But in the past, it helped bc the dining room was not one of the front rooms. p.s.Diane, I love your hair today! I often have physical limitations but have learned to split up the WHB. I also try to get the missions accomplished. I am only doing a little zone work. I am scrubbing cabinets. 15 min at a time. Plus under sink and sometime Tupperware I am excited on Mondays to start a new week

On the Flylady website, the mission for today is to clean the cabinet under the kitchen sink. I have a cleaning caddy and a dish drying rack I will put in the dishwasher and will do a quick wipe down in the cabinet. This mission comes around once in a while and takes very little time but helps keep it from getting too icky under there. Before Flylady (a LONG time ago)...well, I'll just say that cabinet was scary...

Have alot to do to get this place in order, but Flylady has shown how to get started and I've started to use techniques last 2 days. Biggest plus, clothes to shoes, something I let go. So glad I found you.

I am going to pretend I just moved in to my home, and that I am unpacking and setting up new housekeeping, using FlyLady strategies. In fact, I've lived here 13 years and since I have so-called adult attention deficit disorder (ha ha), work 7 days a week, and no current spousal unit to assist, my "home" has acquired a distinct, post-apocalyptic sheen. I have nightmares about the clutter. I am delighted that thanks to you, Diane in Denmark, I have renewed energy and interest and excitement in making this space a true home again. PS: You are personally the embodiment of hygge. I feel cozy watching your vids. It's like reading a Rosamunde Pilcher novel!! Thanks for being here for all of us . [The blue'n'white outfit today: awesome!] Thanks again for giving us your time and knowledge. xoxo

❣Hi, Diane, haha, you're watching us: are we using our timer😉 ? Really, the timer was the wand for me, changing a lot, especially concerning the zones! Every time I started I began to see how much there's to do and 10-15 minutes seemed kind of ridiculous. You probably know how it went on... Well so far for today, I'm on a mission, but I really want to do the routines first. Even if I don't succeed with the project, I've in every case done SOMETHING. And prepared a meal... Until tomorrow and looking forward to baking Apple pie🍎🍏, love, Monika❣

I have a 3000 ft² home. It's hard to clean the upstairs bedrooms with three children under the age of four. If I leave them downstairs and turn on a show I'm stressed out because I have to constantly keep running downstairs but if I bring them upstairs with me they're getting into things I don't want them to get into.... I have been trying to figure this out for some time now lol

thanks again Diane for another great video, and thanks to all the commenters. i really am struggling with even getting dishes done and sink cleaned every day, so i think I'll take it back to basics until that is under control and i can tackle the zones then. just getting my morning and evening routines done, 3 meals made and cleaned up is overwhelming me right now. i find I'm running out to meet friends or go for walks just to get out of the mess at home. any advice?

I actually had those troubles the first few months too. What really helped me was getting a 2 minute hotspot done and the 5 minute room rescue. Just 7 minutes helped me to slowly get a habit and also tiny chips away from my clutter.

Yes, just make sure you are getting the Routines done - they will help "build you up" and bring back the strength you need. And spending time with friends is good...it's pampering! But I have a few rules before I'm "allowed" to leave the house...that I've done a swish and swipe (only takes a minute and makes me feel like I'm accomplished something), that I know what is for dinner and that I have done the laundry or at least put a load in the machine. Hope that helps!

Good morning/afternoon! I have been trying to work the Flylady system and some parts of it (like the timer) are very helpful. I have trouble and get a little frustrated trying to do my routines and zones. I take care of my Mom who has dementia and my day is full of interruptions. I know I'm doing better than I was but things are still a mess. Just a little less mess. LOL Do you have any advice or should I just keep doing the timer thing.

Im starting with the Flylady system today and i hope it will work for me. With a 10 month old, very very needy baby my house is in literal CHAOS. She barely naps and I dont have much time or energy do to anything. I triedthe system once before, but it didnt work for me. And now I found out why. Back then, I didnt trust the timer. I didnt have a baby yet, so I had all day to do chores. I thought, why would I just do something for 15 mins and then relax with guilt. So I did as much as I could get done in one day and imediately burned out. I quit the system after a couple of days and thought it didnt work for me. Now that I have a baby, Im really short on time and energy. Im starting with the baby steps, but this morning my house just needed some 5 min rescue. So I did 15 mins, 5 mins per room. I thought I wont see any change in just 5 mins. It was soooo messy before! After 15 mins, my living room, dining room and kitchen were not clean, but they were presentable! I was so amazed! I couldnt believe that I just achieved that in 15 mins! There were so many dishes in the kitchen before! I thought it would take hours to clean up, so I was really hesitant to start! I even was able to relax for 15 mins before my baby woke up. Its crazy. I found the flylady System through your KZread channel years ago and Im so thankful for that! I bought the book sink reflections and Im so motivated to get my housework organized this year.

The one question I always have about zones is do I try to do 15 minutes every day for a week?

  • @DianeinDenmark

    @DianeinDenmark

    5 жыл бұрын

I just aim for one session of 15 minutes per week and then add a few extra minutes on the days I have time. It all adds up and stops me feeling that I am a failure if I don't do 15 minutes Monday to Friday.

It's not that it only takes 15 minutes, but you only do 15 mins then stop. Or do less if that's the time you have. Anything is better than nothing. The idea is to not exhaust yourself but just do something.

Hey Penny, I'm sure Diane has a better answer. But this is what I do for the zone. I make a list of no more than 5 things that I I think need to be done that month. It's the five things that I think are the dirtiest in that particular Zone. Once I get those five things done I can do more but I have at least gotten the dirtiest Parts done.
