i watched this late at night whilst falling asleep and had some mad dreams about ants lol

2 months ago I had a random thought wondering how big ants would have to be to pose a formidable threat to humans in the same way they do other insects that they eat. The thought consumed me for some reason and it's all I thought about for the next 3 days. Eventually I started looking up videos to learn more about ants and try to feed this newly found obsession I had with them. That of course led me to this channel rather quickly and I'm glad it did, because of your videos I've just became more and more obsessed and almost falling in love with them. Just... I love the calm music and chirping sound in the background, it's so relaxing.

I live in Northern NY state and I had a colony randomly pop up in the corner of my garden a few years ago. I didnt see them until they started climbing up my leg and biting me when I was trying to pick some tomatoes!!!! Omg it hurt so bad!!!!!!!!!!!! My kid heard me yelling and came running over of course and ended up getting a couple on her because they were swarming and she was all bitten up too...I know it wasnt their fault but jeezus they are accurately named CRAZY ants!! I had never seen or heard of any ant like them in my area until this happened...my daughter was terrified of ants until I took her to the insectarium in Montreal and she saw the leaf cutter ants up there...now she begs to go see them again. Its amazing how adaptable a species can be. I for one am still good to never run into these guys ever again...

I live in Quebec, Canada and I can confirm, we have plenty of crazy black ants! I live in a basement so I'm used to cohabiting with them. Last summer, it was funny when my daughter dropped a honey packets under the couch, we had a straight line of ants come and go and it took a week to find out why 😂

I also noticed that strange behavior while trying to introduce foreign queens into my colony, and from the three attempts I made, two of them resulted in the queen being killed by the workers. Great Colonies BTW.

Ant reproduction really is fascinating, as they are a fine example of a wild adaptation to the "normal" methodology. In a sense, the queen ant, and the future queens and males are the species. The entire worker structure, a convenient way for the one insect, the queen, to keep herself safe and fed without directly risking herself. An expendable, replaceable, sterile workforce whose priorities remain with the queen, because she is their only method to have their genes passed on, well... normally. Just a really intriguing repurposing of the reproductive machinery.

Dark Kingdom would be a cool name! because they're black and have a queen so it is in fact a kingdom :D

Ice King I got here because I was so sick of watching the gaming videos over and over again. So I one day randomly searched up "Ants' and found AntsCanada. Clicked on the channel, went down to the Upload Section. And the most recent video was "OMG! My Fire Ants Are Planning an Escape" so I watched the video and went "OH MY GAWD!!! I wanna keep ants now" And after about 3 or so months, I got 2 queens & started to grow a colony. One Iridomyrmex Queen with Pupae & a Carpenter Ant Queen with Eggs. That's my story of how I got into ants

The part were the ants were grooming the queen was so heartwarming to see not all ants will just murder each other

Claustral cell is the place where the queen starts her new colony and spends many weeks/months caring for her young colony. Hey why don't you mix the fire nation as soon as the queen dies with a black crazy ant colony, by getting one of the queens out of the colony and making a trail black crazy ant colony since it will continue to thrive

"You have to look at ants as a whole colony, a whole organism." Well, technically, the entire colony can be considered an actual organism, since the queen is the only one that can reproduce.

Yeah. Those odorless house ants absolutely love my kitchen sink. I keep it as clean as possible but they just love the fact that there's readily available water. Fortunately, they don't tend to venture far from the sink as I haven't seen them elsewhere in my home.

These videos are really so great. I don't know what's more inspiring, watching the ants and what they do or hearing your personal insights. The way you phrase things are so beautiful and enlightening. Thank you for sharing your passion.

Hey man, wanna share an old beekeeper's trick with you to keep your ants from killing any more queens in the future. You can make a little queen-holder out of some mesh in order to introduce the queen to your hive. If the bees swarm the queen, you'll know she was rejected. But if they largely leave her alone, that means she's been accepted. Maybe the same principle can be applied to ants. I hope that helps.

Since my first ever colony just died, and I'm going to the Bahamas in April, I'll try to catch a queen. My main plan is to find a Black Crazy Ant colony, and snatch a few males and elates. I'll leave em together and feed them until I can get them to mate. I hope it works! Otherwise there are some other ants that have a rare chance to have a nuptial flight, but I have to be ready if they are semi-claustral. I hope I could get Odontomachus, but they've never been reported flying in April.

@AntsCanada The ants take time to recognize the new queen as their own. You can place the new queen into the colony, but separation is required such that the ants in the colony can "smell" the queen but couldn't reach her. Try for 1-2 weeks before you remove their separation (barrier) and the colony will have high chance of accepting her as their new queen. If you throw in the queen like that, that's basically ant's food for the colony,

name the crazy ant colony 'The Dark Swarm'
