A CASTLE Full of ANTS SWALLOWS a MEALWORM Whole

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

My new dream colony of Marauder Ants (Carebara diversa) has secretly been working on increasing their worker population within their nest, deep within their castle. With a booming colony, and their Queen, named the Titanic Empress, constantly laying eggs, I felt the ants were finally ready to receive their food placed at a far location within their terrarium. I hoped to watch the colony swarm and form their iconic trails to and from the mealworm I wanted to feed them. What ended up happening was truly a sight to behold! Hope you enjoy this week's ant video! Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

    I always thought the ants riding on top of their prizes were lazy or confused, but from this video I see that when they come to overhanging obstacles these ants help to facilitate the passage of their burden! Makes me wonder if the ones that ride the super majors might have more purpose than energy conservation. 🤔

    14:25 😀 A major came out to help pull it in once the others had brought the meal worm close enough to the nest! 😍

  • @AverytheCubanAmerican
    @AverytheCubanAmerican Жыл бұрын

    The ants hitching a ride on top to protect their meal reminds me of all the people on the Indian subcontinent and in Indonesia who climb on top of trains because of how overcrowded they are! The queen wearing her babies as a dress is the equivalent of when zookeepers hold giant snakes around their necks! 😂 Yes, these ants are smart cookies! Remember like you said, SCALE! To us, carrying a mealworm is nothing but to them, it's everything and they're all in this together! So adding that extra weight of debris WAY before they got to the nest would've made it more challenging. And Waltz of the Flowers from The Nutcracker Suite playing as they carry it back to their next is chef's kiss. Tchaikovsky's touch on music is one of a kind. THIS is the power of music! Music tells a story. And in this case, beautiful classical music helps drive the story of your channel!

    Others might be skittish when they see ants, but a powerhouse queen along with a swarm working together like this one is the sign of a healthy and thriving colony. To others, pests. To us, beauty. Life, no matter the creature, is beautiful. Because life is a GIFT! Them piling on the grains on the mealworm is the equivalent of humans when it comes to freshly poured cement on an urban sidewalk or quicksand in adventure movies. Would you walk right through it and get stuck, or would you try to avoid it? For the ants, the solution is covering it all up.

    Hey bro! Just wanted to say I’ve been watching you for a while now, over 5 years! And your videos gave me a certain love for ants. Sometimes during lunch break at work, I would see ants, and I would give them pieces of my food, watching how determined they were to get their food home was inspiring, and sometimes I’d pick them up with their food, and give them a helicopter ride to their home XD

    My colony of Camponotus tortuganus are about a year old now. I started with 12 queens and ended with just 1. I've noticed over the past few weeks a boom in population about 35-40 and now 3 chambers occupied by brood. I expect the population to triple next month. I only ever see 1-2 workers scavenging. The rest guard the nest & most appear to have full stomachs. The Queen's gaster is a balloon with tons more brood on the way. They live on a diet of crickets, honey & occasional banana chunks. They also lived side by side with a colony of beetles who took care of garbage disposal but the population disappeared after I added a some vermiculite to the outworld. Their trash dump locations seem to be under control. I'd like to reintroduce some more of these beetles to maintain their trash but I'm not sure what available sub straight I should use. I raise my own crickets for feed which is fun and easy. I enjoy their music. I understand Camponotus spc typically take a lot longer to get established and flourish in numbers, so I'm really excited to see how they do this year.

    Ants mainly communicate using pheromones, though.

  • @rubix1694

    @@marie-pieredwards5421 Mainly, yes, but not entirely. They do what's called stridulation, which is rubbing certain plates together to make a noise, and they use several noises to convey different ideas (food, intruders, stuck under dirt, warning, etc.). Plus, they have different levels of excitement, such as discovering high quality foot etc. - I think it would give us more of a sense of what ants or other insects are hearing on an auditory level (although I doubt we perceive sound in the same way, like how snakes detect vibrations, but they don't actually HEAR sounds - they're deaf). With an ultra sensitive mic, you could pick up their mood and energy level better, plus hear all the sounds they do make (intentionally and unintentionally), even though you are correct, they mostly communicate through pheromones. It would just be interesting, since AntsCanada is pretty much the GOAT of ant documentation, this would give his channel another element of ant life that we don't see or hear from anyone else, other than a few short clips. I think it would be fascinating. Sorry for the book I just wrote you lol, I really hope I taught you something and I really, REALLY hope AC gets an ultra-sensitive mic, since it would add a whole other level to his channel.
