Rafael that would require multiple dedicated webcams and an increased monthly internet bill/bandwidth he legitimately probably can't afford. Maybe start a fundraiser amongst fellow patrons to finance the cams at the least. Idk if he even makes a profit on patreon after feeding the colonies since patron takes 2.9% total as well as $0.35usd per pledge.

Ive always loved ants. Im 33 years old and ants have been my favorite insect since i was a young child. I remember getting my magnifying glass and going out to find an ant hole and sitting by it for hours just watching them. I hope to soon be able to afford a setup like the fire nation tank that you have. The way they interact with eachother, build, farm, and wage war is so interesting to me. Its like having a window into a highly intelligent society. I love this channel and as soon as i found it (maybe a year ago) i subscribed. Your editing, storytelling, camera work, and enthusiasm are great. Keep it up.

The springtales are like a friend who nags you to no end but you would miss if not around.

So it basically means that none of your Diacamma workers have functioning gemma, resulting in your infurtile gamergate laying male eggs, so what you need to do is go to a wild colony, or ask a friend to gift you worker pupae. Your colony will open these pupae and this new worker will still have a gemma. Your males will be able to mate with this new worker that still has her gemma resulting in a fertile worker and a fertile growing colony, I have 6 years of experience and have succesfully been able to do the above things.

I'm really digging this 4k quality! I've been watching your videos since last year (binge watching every day so I can keep up to date) and this has to be my fave episode. I can see each little mite, each spec of dust and I don't think I would have been able to see that ant with the one antenna if it wasnt shot in 4k. Great to see your channel blossom

The curious thing is that wasps and bees currently social species (paper wasps, honey bees, & some forms of bumble bees) and solitary species (mud daubber wasps, leaf cutter bees, mason bees and carpenter bees). It almost seems like there should be at least one species of solitary ants, but the closest I've heard of is "velvet ants" which are apparently wingless wasps.

Answer of the AC Question: The gender of an ant is determined through its chromosomes. If it is diploid (chromosomes of female and male) the ant will be female, if it is haploid (only the chromosomes of the female) the ant will be male.

Another beautiful video. The 4k does make a huge difference in attention to detail. You can definitely see how alive even the smallest residents are. And of course left us with a cliff hanger at the end. Nicely done.
