Fly Fishing a small stream in Colorado

Спорт

I started my 2 week adventure fly fishing this small stream in southern Colorado. For nearly a week, I explored several of the small streams in this area. It was a great trip filled with wild trout. You can check out the first video from this series below...backpacking into the Weminuche Wilderness. Gonna be a good time! Thanks for watching!

Funny thing is on this one I was actually fishing around Creede the last week of June myself, it was actually more crowded than I've ever seen it and hot! In general - what are the steps you take to find streams? Topo maps? Fly shop inquiries? Satellite views? The West is too big to just drive up every canyon or every Forest Service road. You must have a way to narrow down your options. I fish the Rockies for the entire summer ( May to September) and I've found my share of great streams, but I spend loads of time and gas wasting energy on streams that don't pan out at all or end up on private property. Would love some insight on your process.

  • @LooknFishy

    @LooknFishy

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yep, basically all those and anything else I can dig up. I definitely don't start down a forest service road without having an idea what's at the end. Takes some time but, take Colorado for example...I've been traveling to that area building my knowledge of the area for a few years. Try to explore a few new streams each time. Helps I can take off for a couple weeks to do it. You'd be amazed what you can find reading old blogs, cross referencing google maps and then just digging through internet searches after you have a name or area.

  • @LooknFishy

    @LooknFishy

    3 жыл бұрын

    So imo, it has more to do with stream access and trespassing laws. There are more small streams than any of us could fish in a lifetime in the west...pick a state and you're options are limited by access. Some states the property owner, owns the stream bed...so no wading...unless your on public land (WY/CO). In other states, once you enter the water or stay below the high water mark you're good (MT). States like Idaho have a ton of wilderness areas!

    3wt and orvis pro textured line! There's definitely some flex in the superfine carbon, but those sets weren't hard....just quick!
