FYI -- Eric Hernandez is playing a restored '66 Slingerland kit. Couldn't be more different than the kit he used on Bruno's last world tour. Bruno uses 5-time Grammy winning recording engineer Charles Moniz for his studio work and live performances (this includes world tours). Charles was involved with getting the sound right for the "An Evening With Silk Sonic" album.

This is how Bruno rolls for lives, it has to be live, that's who they are, and they change it up each time, so his team need to do their home work too. It always sounds mighty. Tracks include, minimum female vocals and tambourine etc..The Grammys tribute to Little Richard with him and Anderson this year was similar, Anderson's piano player was ridden by Bruno to get that style right for that performance as we know Little Richard's left hand was a monster, it was mighty including amazing vocals by Bruno, drums but Anderson including a stick toss toward the end that was pretty funny. The attention to detail with these two is part of the package. Love the reaction and seeing two musicians who hear and see more. Thanks🐨👏🏻 These two are on 🔥 setting a great example of what's important for those who follow them. Anderson has just started APESHIT INC. Anderson Paak Enterprises Shit Inc. to work with young Artists who want to play their instruments and are prepared to do the work to perfect their skills not just fill and auto tune. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but they're old school. That's part of what they're reviving here.

Apparently you're right the original Soul Train in the 1970's, the first version WAS dubbed, said one well-versed KZreadr on Soul Train's past, CUZ Don Cornelius wanted it to sound like the record. These guys are all the way live. Bruno has always been known to perform live [and his band].

Loved to see some young white guys loving this music. It's a shame music is so segregated these days. I grew up in the '70's and we listened to all types of music on the radio. Country, soul/R&B, rock & roll, etc. Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak are great live performers. Given you guys are such techie geeks, I'll point out that the sound of the video (of Silk Sonic) sounds like it's in a box for your viewers (me). Your camera is focusing behind you (vs on the mic, as you mentioned). I hope you continue to review good music.

I agree and disagree with you as well. Although music is segregated among the general public, it's the musicians who have a much wider musical palette than their fans. You see that very easily with todays music. A song is covered by an artist; however, their fans are surprised to hear and learn that the version they heard was just a cover of a song from another genre. Case in point, Run DMC made "Walk This Way," which featured a sample from Steve Tyler and Aerosmith. For those who are keen enough, they'll know or find out that the song was sampled, thus exlosing Aerosmith to a new audience. But for all of that to happen, someone in the group or on their team was already listening to groups like Aerosmith to begin with. I believe that this current state of affairs started with the lack of basic music education, appreciation, voice, and musical instrument training in public school. School budgets were cut and eliminated this experience from the basic curriculum. There was music education, and we got a crop of [better] singers. This time period coincides with the general population being more conservative, which meant that there was closer proximity to churches, being in choirs and bands. Many classic bands got their start in public school. Others were started in talent shows and competitions where contestants took music in school and then continued at home.

Something that needs to be recognized when talking about the dubbing on Soul Train and Don Cornelius is that back then Black musicians were rarely seen on TV. Soul Train was one of the few avenues where Black artist could get their moment in the sun. Anything can go wrong with a live performance - audio, video, set, outfits, etc. One bad live performance would have had a negative effect not just on that specific artist, but on Black artists as a whole. Don Cornelius was trying to make sure his show would not be yanked off the air because of some bad live performances. This is true for Black folks across every sphere of life, even today. We often carry the weight of the entire race on our backs when we are spotlighted.

That is false. In the 70s, several acts sang live on Soul Train. Al Green, Aretha, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Ike and Tina, The Isley Brothers, The Ojays, and I believe Tower of Power and The Average White Band. It was cost effective to have most artists in the latter years lip sync instead of singing live due to microphones and sound checks. It was only an hour show. American Bandstand, Solid Gold, Soap Factory Disco and other dance shows did the same.

Exactly and you can see Bruno holding a small brown towel at Smokin Out The Window maybe due to his sweat. That legend is dancing all the time settled himself as back-up singer and dancer just to let that song sounded so good. He is into music that's why he set aside his ego and let Andy do almost all vocals. My eyes are glued to his moves. Amazed by his shouts. Another excellent performance by silksonic.

This is 100% live.. you can’t tell? They’re definitely playing with a track to fill in some of the harmonies and such, but the live sound is obvious, no? I don’t think I can ever recall a performance where Bruno didn’t perform 100% live, at least the vocals. When they played the Super Bowl they tried to make him prerecord his set but he wouldn’t make that concession so they allowed them to play it live (red hot chili peppers part was prerecorded music and live vocals, though). You should check out more live Bruno that’s not from award shows, preferably from his 24k magic tour. His band is so incredibly tight live (silk Sonics live band is essentially members of his touring crew). Jamario, his bassist, is one of the best bassists on the planet.

However, I have one piece of criticism, you obviously have extensive technical, micing, and musical knowledge. I will not debate that in any way. But why does it sound like the two of you are sitting in a bathroom making these comments? I will confess in a video where sound seems so revered, I was surprised you did not get them mics set up when you are making these videos. There was little perceptible difference pulling the mic towards the two of you, so maybe it was recording from a cruddy source? (I know, this happens! ugh) Anyways, I just wanted to point that out because I think yer knowledge is AMAZING, I'd just like to hear something more sonically pleasing from you guys too :)

Hey Guys, New subscriber to your channel and by no means a tech geek but I do know great music when I hear it. It's my favourite era/genre of music and I'm so glad Bruno and Anderson are introducing the younger generations to the kinda music I grew up listening too A couple of bands in my neck of the woods are also bringing back real music, musicians, BV Harmonies and singers that don't need ...finessing🙄. Our sound is familiar yet hits a little differently. Their catalogues are 🔥. Some suggestions to showcase their diversity. Six60 - Don't Give It Up, Up There (Lyric video), Don't Forget Your Roots, Only To Be, Forever, Rest Of You, Lost ft Auckland Philharmonia Orhestra (LD on Vimeo), Closer (Lyric video) L.A.B (Live at Roundhead Studio versions when available) - In The Air, For The Love Of Jane, Rocketship, Personify, Why Oh Why, Controller, Baby Will You Let Me, My Brother, Natural, Yes I Do, IJDK, Fashion Dread, Proud Man. Enjoyed your review and learnt a lot in the process. Liked and Subscribed. Hope you enjoy what we're vibing too at the moment in NZ. You can also checkout their recent concerts - Six60 Western Springs or Eden Park 2021, L.A.B One Love 2021 L.A.B at Western Springs today 01/22/2022 so no doubt that video will be up soon.

@@Beldvlmnt They're the biggest bands in NZ. Six60 were originally flatmates that went to University/College together (660 is a reference to their street address) and they've been dominating the charts for the past decade or so BUT L.A.B have only been together for the past 5 years and are quickly becoming the music of choice (2 original members are from Kora and another member from Katchafire, 2 Iconic Kiwi Reggae roots bands). Six60 - Lost is considered by many Kiwi's to be their masterpiece so maybe start with Don't Forget Your Roots, Up There (Lyric video), Don't Give It Up or Rolling Stone, Rest Of You, Forever, Closer (Lyric video), Only To Be for a good cross section of their music. Teddy Swims did a cover of their song Rivers. L.A.B has a Retro/Reggae vibe. They use a similar approach to EWF when creating their songs and sound (sorry I've forgotten the correct term). In The Air (has a Sade/Carlos Santana vibe to it) For The Love Of Jane (sequel to In The Air). Controller has a beautiful melodic vibe. Baby Will You Let Me (is chill) My Brother, Yes I Do, Natural, IJKD (has the retro sound). Rocketship, Personify, No Roots, Why Oh Why (have a reggae/rock vibe). Fashion Dread (has a throwback vibe) Ain't No Use (or the live at One Love 2021 version is reminiscent of iconic 70s/80's live performances) Mr Reggae & Proud Man (Live at Massey Studio - just dropped from their 5th album last month the rest of the songs on album don't have music videos yet). Some notables Under The Sun, Oh Honey, All Night, Can You Be The One. I'm just one of the hundreds of thousands/millions of Kiwi & Aussie fans who appreciate good positive music supporting our artists by sharing their music and have been rocking out too them for years but haven't been able to break into the US market. I think the US has missed out on a lot of great NZ and Aussie music over the past few decades. Fortunately with technology that is slowly changing, as a lot of reactors are starting to discover. They have something in their catalogues to suit most tastes. Maybe a couple aren't to my taste but seriously you'll struggle to find a dud song amongst them. PS: That's just a sample of their diverse catalogue. My user name is a twist on some Kiwi slang. It pays homage to my avatar & vice versa😉. So no offense taken if you mispronounce or ignore it. As we say in NZ, Churr Bro or No Worries Bro/Mate. But if you really must I guess the Golden One or Bromer would be appropriate for the avatar 🙄🤦‍♂️ Some other artists you might want too react too Aaradhna - It Ain't Enough ft Sons Of Zion, Brown Girl, Forever Love. Teeks - First Time, If You Were Mine, Never Be Apart, If Only. Stan Walker (Live with the Levites) - Don't Dream It's Over, Ultralight Beam (Kanye West cover), New Light, Inside Out, Bigger (&/or TUA the Maori version) , He Kakano Ahau, Amazing Grace. Stan Walker - Aotearoa, Black Box, Take It Easy, Thankyou, Choose ft Hamo Dell, Tennessee Whiskey ft Parson James, Don't Worry Baby, Come Back Home. Tomorrow People - Irie Music House Of Shem - Thinking About You Sons Of Zion - Love On The Run Maimoatia - Pukana & Whanau, Wairua, We Are Human Koi Boys - Sh-Boom, All About The Bass, Cry To Me, Hey Senorita. etc I'd be very interested in your analysis from an engineering perspective on the production/arrangement/performance of our artists music.

Dudes! I appreciate your reactions, but do your Soul Train homework. The notion that Soul Train was just about “the dancing” is deeply erroneous and damaging to both performers and dancers alike. From the freshest faced teens with that #1 Billboard R&B record to the most seasoned industry legends, they all came to celebrate the culture, and to be in a space where you didn’t have to get anyone’s outside approval. Being Black and gifted was simply enough.
