Flowered Up - Greedy Soul - LIve at Camden Koko

Video of Flowered Up playing Greedy Soul live in 2005 during a short lived reunion. Unfortunately the audio wasn't up to scratch but this version of the track features all the original members playing on it, based on Jagz Kooner's mix of the Greedy Soul version. The video was cut to a slightly longer version but I've let the video run on rather than fade it.

Only saw them once in a sold out hometown social club round the corner from camden palace/koko. It was like having a band play in your own front room. The excitement was i guess similar to seeing the pistols or madness performing in their very early days to their mates.

I've been to more gigs than I can remember and seen some amazing bands. I can honestly say Flowered Up, Phobia tour, Cambridge Junction is the best gig I've been to. How they engaged with crowd was perfect.

Same here. I've seen so much - and all of their contemporaries from the time - and genuinely nothing comes close. Liam seemed almost like John Lydon at the height of his powers, totally focused and totally meaning it. Irrespective of what that was.

Saw them at the Venue in New Cross during the height of their short lived fame around 1990 - and what a band. The gig ended in chaos with them throwing their gear at the crowd after some rival South London bad boys kicked it all off. Liam going nuts and Barry Mooncult jumping in to the crowd complete with flower around his head. Legendary and a gig i will always remember. Love this band still sound amazing. Weekender has to be one of the most underrated epics.

+TimDorney - just a paste of my post on the Doris video you posted. You guys made some of the best music I've never got bored of even now, & were probably the best live band I've seen... Deffo top 3 at least :-) Apologies for the essay, really its written to you remaining guys & so that anyone left behind by Liam & Joe can see that they really were talented & special guys... & from what I've heard two of the nicest blokes going. R.I.P. hope "whatever you're doing is making you happy" :-) War & Peace below lol - 2004 Get Loaded in the Park - second chance following '03 to see that incarnation of the Mondays with the young backing band (& were great - 2012 reunion was shite) & I missed them as a kid - Loved up & buzzing with anticipation as F/U playing that year ( the outdoor footage in this vid) - Harassed my mates to death to get in the queue even though was only 3 PM - Cos I had seen Flowered Up in 91/92 & it remains in the top 3 gigs of my life, even though was only in front of about 200 people it's up there with Stone Roses Heaton Park 1st night - Anyway, we get close to the gates & my guts start to churn as I hear the unmistakeable intro to 'Doris'..."Nooooo!!!!"... I enjoyed the rest, but that killed off the real buzz for me. I never, ever thought they would reform or play live... & the few notes I heard told me they had sounded the bollocks... No-one I was with understood why I was so miserable as I tried to explain that I would have happily missed the Mondays to see Flowered UP... & as it was Doris, I knew it was probably the last song which it was :-( But you know what, aside from the tragic deaths, that kind of sums up the essence of F/U - Brilliant, like the Mondays with a punk edge, way ahead of their time, fucked up by production on the album (which I love anyway) hit their stride with Weekender when everyone's attention has turned towards fuckin Oasis - it is real fkn tragedy that Weekender doesn't sit alongside Fools Gold & Wrote for Luck in more people's awareness as one of the top 3 (maybe the best of all) genre - defining soundtracks to 'baggy' / indie-dance / whatever... All the musical tragedy topped off by real tragedy... So, so sad... So RIP Liam & Joe, you wouldn't have known me from Adam but I will always remember one Tuesday night in late 91/92 - 92 I think - it's stayed imprinted on my mind as one of the best gigs/ nights out I've ever experienced, through growing up, through my own lost years on smack... always had the album, always had the memory fresh in my mind & still do... Metropole Folkestone, tiny place now shut, about 200 people at best - no support band but a great DJ set that set the mood. The band come on, no frills apart from the flower round Barry's head - my mate gets up on stage the opposite side to Barry @ the start & they don't even look like trying to remove him, he just becomes part of the show... They play 9/10 songs off Life with Brian, miss out It's On which I love but they hated if I remember right - 9 perfect songs, drive the crowd wild, no encore & they f___ off leaving us wanting more... The absolute dog's bollocks.... I've written this because a. I feel they were robbed of recognition b. I hope that if any of the band or relatives are reading this, you will be able to see how much Flowered Up meant to music fanatics like me, & that their music lives on... Lived fast & tragically the brothers died too young. I'm sure there are many other fans out there with similar & more interesting stories but I've never got bored of that all too short discography, the Greedy Soul stuff... Dark Side of the Spoon is almost unbearable to listen to just as a fan... God Knows.... but another unrecognised classic, as someone who's had heroin problems... man... talk about capturing an emotion #nailedit & Weekender - waaaay ahead of time, I keep discovering more every time I go back to it... Sorry for the essay, hope this reaches someone to whom it will be meaningful...thanks for the music guys, Liam & Joe if there is an afterlife, hope you're havin' it laaarge :-) @BlueCheMical - thanks for the post mate, I really hope someone else out there has buried treasure to unearth. Peace :-)

Fine words mate and resounding, so underrated, even now in 2021 I still get a warm feeling listening to the tunes especially weekender which epitomised that era, such an epic song and innovative video for the time. But man what a legacy of music they left, live fast have a laugh and remember make sure what you do makes you happy..............

Fergy, great post. Thing is with Flowered Up, they really WERE one of the most underrated groups and unfortunately they did get lumped in with the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and the whole "baggy" scene, London records didn't help by trying to mould them into a "trendy boiy band". Don't know WFL, wasn't into the Mondays at the time and only got into Stone Roses when Fool's Gold came out (THAT Top Of The Pops night) but while Fool's Gold is a great record (only after Ian Brown stopped wittering on and let John Squire do his "thing") it is,IMO, merely a song. Weekender was a mantra. I was lucky, I had a decent job and a large disposable income but it still meant something to me, I knew plenty of people who were doing a sh*t job for f*ck all but lived for that Friday night feeling, go home , dress up, sort your gear out, look forward to the next two nights and recover on the Sunday. And as I've said before in many other posts, Flowered Up were just so, so good. I look forward to meeting them soon - :-)and getting told at the door "F*ck off son, no trainers tonight" :-)
