Florida Roadside Attractions & Abandoned Places - Forgotten & Dangerous Abandoned Factory Explored

On this episode of Florida Roadside Attractions and Abandoned Places we explore an abandoned phosphate factory in Nichols, Florida. A complete tour of this haunting facility that has been abandoned for 23 years. I was shocked and amazed of all that was left behind and it’s just sitting there! There is much ahead.

I live off U.S. 27 and just about every town off of or near the Highway has a small train based museum. What we saw here shows how much things have changed in 1/12 centuries of Florida's History!

Great video! Whenever my buddies and I would go urban exploring or into the woods we'd strap a camera pointed behind one of us to try and catch if anything (whether it was a person, animal, or paranormal) was following us or just in the background unnoticed. You should try it! You might capture something you never realized was out there with ya!! 😬📹

The "Evils" are a local Hispanic wannabe gang in the old phosphate towns. Nichols, Brewster, Mulberry, Turkey Creek and others. Someday they'll all be developed into sub-divisions and chase the Hispanics out.

@@TampaJay Update: The tribute store was awesome. Even though I have never seen the Jurassic Park movies, the store was still cool. Especially the kitchen scene. My daughter bought the 30th anniversary black and red water bottle. I bought myself a cool Disney water bottle at World Of Disney. I also rode Velocicoaster for the first time and as much as I hate to say it, it was way too intense for me. I was so overwhelmed by it that when I met up with my daughter ( she didn't ride it), I got emotionally upset and started crying in that Discovery store. I love coasters and even at 64 years old I can still ride them. But that one really was too much for me. However let me say this: I had my sunglasses on and I don't have a strap on them. At some point I had to actually hold my glasses on my head and hold on with one hand. Had I been able to hold on with both hands it probably wouldn't have upset me so much because of the extreme intensity of the ride. But honestly I have to say that I am most assuredly not going to ride it again. I thought Lightning Rod at Dollywood was intense when I rode it. But it is quite mild compared to Velocicoaster. So I may ride Lightning Rod again. LOL! HA HA!

At 23:00 to answer your question, that shed you were at that was filled with water - you're correct that would go down about 30 or so feet and is where they'd unload phosphate rock railcars that would come from mine sites. the conveyor that leads up to the plant would then grind the phosphate (fancy dirt) and mix it with sulfuric acid, creating phosacid which would be supplied to a granular plant (where you noted turbines earlier, those were granulators/dryers) creating what we see as little pebble fertilizer that you'd commonly see in stores. the product produced at these plants would be sold to distributors where they'd dilute it with all other types of nutrients for what we know as fertilizer. Also, as i'm still watching to answer your next question to the cows 'what are you doing out here'. Mosaic still owns several thousand acres in this area, most commonly around the New Wales area. The 'unused' land that has been reclaimed in the past and environmentally restored, is now leased to anything from TECO for solar farms, beekeepers, and cattle farmers.

Sorry I'm posting a lot😂... But you're going to where I grew up I grew up on a farm right outside of Nichols down the road from that plant you're talking. That plant actually got shut down for different reasons that the government's trying to hide but when my family and I live there there was radiation that seeped into the the natural spring. Unfortunately while we had the farm we had like 100 acres of land and a farmhouse I'm hoping maybe you can see where I can show you or tell you how to get there and you can see it but as you notice the house is down the bottom of the like a little valley like a valley. I lost both my parents two sisters because of that plant leaking radiation into the water supply into the air. So for twenty years my family drink water polluted from the radiation from the uranium that they found that the government wanted back in the 50s. I have an article from The Wall Street journal that goes into more detail about what happened but basically everything we drank everything we ate when we went swimming anything we did caused that radiation. By doing so I've lost majority of my family I have breast cancer a my oldest brother he has cancer. Mine is in remission he's still getting radiation treatments. Anyway long boring story but just to give you a little background information on that plant and I also wanted to tell you how much I really enjoy you and Chris doing these videos. You guys truly are awesome and I'm so glad you found each other ❤️

If u go to these places, especially s Lakeland/mulberry area, bring a radiation detector. Radon is a serious issue around here in old phosphate mines. Gun shots were from JTAC Ranch. Was a members only shooting range/training area. Going to be missed, was closed down for a future neighborhood being built in adjacent property (might be the one you’re on). It’s just a little further down on the right, closed to public and members after 1/1/2024 though😢

Have you been to the Shell Factory in Punta Gorda ? Did you know Punta Gorda was created from a pineapple farmer ? It was a huge pineapple farm in the early 1900s? It's been steadily built up. I hope it hasn't lost all of its charm. I haven't been back in over 15 yrs. But it was really nice and super rural and remote and quiet. We lived 8 miles (of swamp) from a prison- on 22 acres. It was a road of mailboxes. You couldn't see a single house. I have heard it's ridiculous and unrecognizable now. But we loved it's story, of how it came to be a city. There is nothing like a small Florida town. Floral city is still small. The people in charge aim to keep it that way. I love places that are against growth. "Growth" pushes out all the wildlife, which should be criminal ! But the animals have no rights.

Schweet,You might should have taken a geiger counter with you, phosphate mining has residual land contamination and the waste usually has uranium, thorium, and radium,so I hope you washed down after your exploration?

Not far from there as the crow flies there is a private gun range that is quite sizable, JTAC Ranch.

12:37 looks more like EVILS than “Elvis”. Could be an urban artist who passed away or something.

That’s the thing about abandoned places you really are going at your own risk. Something that you’ve probably learned from your buddy Adam the Woo

I’m thinking the nerves from being in such an enormous structure with massive yet decrepit and completely silent machinery made your brain read that graffiti as Elvis! Realizing it actually read “EVIL” while in a place that makes the Chainsaw Massacre film seem completely plausible would be too much for ANYONE’S mind to process!!!😂😂 Great job on the video! I would love to explore this place as well!

I appreciate it, did you have any trouble or anyone prowling? I've been through the guard shack and old post office but there was a construction building to the side and several cars but this was a year ago
