My great aunt Paula was Fred’s girlfriend at the time. She fled days before the FBI shootout. She lived in the house for a bit, and I met her when I was a kid. I wonder if I could skip the wait list….

There was a garage to the right of the building as you enter. I saw it as a child in the early 1960's. The house had been patched up (exterior) pretty well but the garage was full of poorly patched bullet holes. For many years there was a bamboo hedge blocking the view from the road. Do you know if the bamboo hedge was there during the gunfight or was it planted later to keep curious people from viewing the house?
It took me 13 years and several attempts to try to get inside of this house, in my former hometown of Ocklawaha. Yesterday, was the day it finally went down! Thanks for joining me for this long awaited tour! I didn’t feel the need to edit down the footage as much as I normally do, because this video is very important to me. Thanks for always joining and watching, everyone!

Thank you for this very interesting tour. I have lived in North Central Florida since I was 15 years old, that is 60 years and I did not know anything about this. I knew, of course, about the famous Ma Barker and her gang but didn't realize they lived on Lake Weir.

They also had a home in Minnesota. We owned a bar that had a tunnel during the bootleg days. Story was the Barkers and John Dillinger used those tunnels to get away also. The gas station down the street was a hang out for Al Kapone, Dillinger etc. Th3 tunnels went down to the bluffs toward the Mississippi.
Ma Barker was a friend of our families great, great grandmother. They had amazing photos & stories of her!
Amazing the house has remained so intact despite all the renters it had over the years.
Not the same bead. check out the slats in the head frame. There are 7 in the current frame and only 4 in the old photo. Also the guide stated that there was originally only a single bed in that room. What is amazing is that the bullet ridden chair was kept by the new occupants and survived all these years. Great Job !!!
Hi 👋. The first time I saw this house, it was in it's original spot. Patty from the g team filmed it, from the house to the boat dock. Nobody was allowed in at the time. Pretty cool to he able to tour the interior. thank you so much
Man that gave me chills.the hole time you where in the house filming.a big piece of dark history.and it was awsome being a part of it.great flog
My sister and brother in law own a lake cottage a few properties over from the original location. We walked the property and got onto the front porch and peered in the windows. This was September 2016, right before they moved the house. Glad you got to see the house Jay!

I'm just learning today, March 24, 2024 ! I'm a Florida native - born in Orlando 1975, moved to Tampa suburbs 1984 for my dad to start a construction materials and supply company. Tampa was booming for big buildings and warehouses, which were his specialty. We still spent a lot of weekends in Orlando as that is where all the extended family was. I started showing horses and went to a trainer in Ocala every weekend. Beautiful pastures still today. At some point, my aunt bought herself some land in WEIRSDALE. Now I'm wondering what connections I may have through my cousin at the Lady Lake preservation...that could get me an "in" to Ma's. 😉 Why we've never had a party at Gator Joe's....the threat is gone! Maybe for my 50th next year. Tampa Jay, I appreciate you sharing your adventures. I dig the hat....as long as NHL postseason is complete. ⚡💙⚡
When my son was ages 2-10 in the 1990's we lived in Silver Springs Shores and went to Lake Weir and Ocklawaha fairly often. When he was really little my son called it "Oaklawahaha"! Thanks for sharing!
This was awesome Thanks so much for sharing. I just put my name on the list to do the tour.

Wow! Firstly....thank you for sharing your experience Jay. That was absolutely, with-out-a-doubt really interesting and informative. I can imagine as an observer, how awesome it was to be on location( well, relocated). Also! It's amazing how much the Tour Guide knew and retained all the information. Pretty rad! It's also amazing how all the mirrors were intact, and NOT destroyed during the long shootout. Miraculously. Again, thank you for sharing your experience. 🤘🏻🎃

Great video Jay!! really enjoyed this one.
Took writing Freaky Florida to get in there myself. So crazy awesome. Love that Gator Joe brought down the gang. Kind of scary that the shootout killed an old lady and her gangster son.
Wow! That's pretty wild! I never heard of that story! Crazy how everything looked the same as did back then!
I remember after watching the Goonies (years ago) and shortly there after learning that Mama Fratelli was loosely based off of Ma Barker. Great job on covering this story and the locations.

It would be Interesting to see if they used a blue light in the MA Barker death room would there be any old DNA laying around, I understand that's difficult to get rid of, but the house was definitely a amazing time machine 😯😮

It reminds me of the Lizzie Borden House in Fall River, MA. I've been on a tour there a few times, and it was just like how this tour was. Although most of the furniture and decor at the Lizzie Borden house wasn't original to when the Bordens lived there. It was interesting and creepy at the same time, seeing the pictures of the rooms of Ma's house with the same furniture and items in them.
This was so informative. I’m sure this tour wasn’t free of charge so thank you for sharing, you paid full price so we could all enjoy it free of charge.

👏Thank you, fantastic tour. So glad you had the photos to campare then and now..Wow!!!
I love American History & especially when it's real. I also can't believe that a lot of those things survived the shoot out.
Wow! I've been looking for Johnson Beach. We lived in Ocala (now in South Florida) in the late 60s, and the music would blare. The doors come to my memory. There was a place out in the lake to climb up on and jump off. It was awesome and I Google'd many times trying to find it. Thanks for the memories. I was 9 years old, and I'm 64 now.
Next to your Tombstone video...THIS one is by far the best you've ever done! As a student of history, I couldn't be more happy that not only you got to visit, but that everything was kept as is! It's not that often one finds historical places with this much detail still intact. AND given that so many rounds were exchanged...that items like that lamp, the chandelier, the mirrors still survived. Also...loved the look on that guys face when you pointed to the couch where Ma Barker most likely died... Well done, Sir. Thanks for bringing us along!

Kudos to whomever maintained that house all these years and kept all the original items together in it.. And I hope they allow a professional paranormal team to investigate and determine whether or not Ma Barker and Fred Barker still haunt the house.

I've told my daughter in the middle of painting the exterior of their home in Florida. She's looking forward to watching. The home is really very nice. 2100 sf is very comfortable. As always, a great vlog on a historical site! I like the info shared by you and of the tour guides. Your vlogs are always interesting. The original DuckTales cartoon, Ma Beagle was based on Ma Barker. The 1970s TV show, The Manhunter, "The Ma Gantry Gang" episode was based on Ma Barker and her brood.

Awesome! We used to go to the reanactments, it was so much fun. We live 5 minutes from there, in Candler. We wish we knew you were coming, we would’ve treated you to lunch. We watched them moved the house. They transported it over Lake Weir, it was so heavy the lake rose many inches. So much history for such a small town. Love your channel, big fans Veronica and Todd
