I went to visit a friend in Miami, Florida from Los Angeles for the first time for 10 days and we spent most of those times in the city and South Beach etc... I took 3 days to myself (cuz no one wanted to join me) to go visit the Everglades National Park to experience the typical tourist swamp/gator tour.... and it turned out to be the best part of my trip. At one point on the airboat tour the captain stopped the vehicle in the middle of the Everglades and told everyone to stay silent... completely silent...... we sat there in the middle of this amazing beautiful landscape, the blue sky wide open, puffy white clouds floating, soft water currents below us... it was one of the most beautiful, magical and spiritual 15 minutes of my life.... no one made a sound... the power and beauty of the Everglades had all of us in a beautiful trance. I will never forget it. Thank you for this episode!

My uncle, Edward (Eddie) Kassman, is hugely responsible for the preservation of the Everglades National Park. He's been working for the park service for over 30 years and spent over 15 years writing the legal protections for the park. His bill passed through Congress under Obama (I think). He still works for the Park Service out of CO. He earned a law degree to protect our environment and parks. It's the work of people like him that will bring happiness and joy for generations to come.

Crazy to see Peter there! Especially since I know that not a lot goes on here most of the year except the seafood fest. The other 51 weeks we sat outside Circle K smoking cigarettes gossiping bout stone crabs, fishing, airboats and whatnot. I love & cherish all the memories I made from 20 yrs ago.....

Ok, I would kindly suggest that from my point of view, I doubt there will be a deluge of humanity rushing to live out in the Everglades. It's a National Park. It's a zillion miles away from the comfort of most our homes. It has an endless display of bugs and other unwanted creatures. And it's in hurricane country. So, no matter where you are from, you might not consider this to be paradise. For those people who have the fortitude to live there, I admire you. It's a rare place that boggles the mind. I can only imagine the night sky. For you, you have a special spot that can never be duplicated. I'm thankful you have found the world where you belong. Not many can say that. Many blessings to you all.

Another beautiful and heartfelt comment. Thank you - it was absolutely a wonderful day. Serenity is why the Everglades will always be home to me. Glad you enjoyed.
Peter, you REALLY need to get yourself up to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It's pretty remote up there too. My dad is originally from up there near the Wisconsin border, but there are so many gems all throughout. It has an ancient history with the Ojibwe Indians, then the French and Scottish fur traders, then there was a ton of mining and that brought in a flood of immigrants from all over Europe, especially Cornish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Polish, and Italian - but really from all over. The mining boom died in the early 20th century and there are very few open today. Pasties are the "'soul food" of the UP and popular because of the mining history and the Cornish were well-known for their mining ability. My grandma was a pure Cornish descendant so she made the BEST pasties.

Just went home to Ireland and was at a 10th century castle related to my family, I asked the historian about trade with Spain and we ended up talking about America because I live in Nevada now, anyway he started talking about how Columbus came to Galway to seek St Brendan's book, which talked about his travels to America and he met to strange men who Galway people said we're from the Americas, the historian believes these two men were native American and had sailed east and discovered Ireland, he said he wanted to research the possible longer connections between Galway and the native American communities in Florida

A lot of people don't even realize what "Old Florida" means but people looking out for each other and generally being nice is at the core of it.
Awesome Video as always! It would be really cool while you are down in South Florida to meet with the Gladesmen. The last of the Sawgrass Cowboys, grew up in the Everglades alongside the Indian Reservation. Very interesting group of people, and historical culture. They have cared for the land and show people by airboat all the cool ecosystem. Originally were cowboys and people that built houses out in the glades. To live off the land, taking only what they need. They eventually started using airboats. After they are all gone since they are getting older, its a worry it will all be taken away and people won't be able to experience the glades and the culture of the gladesmen will be extinct.

Absolutely a phenomenal guide he was amazing would love to take a tour like this one day … the Everglades what an amazing area… coming from the Alps of Southern Germany to the swamp land at 10 was quite a culture shock but in these 60 years one thing I’ve learned is there is BEAUTY no matter where you go just keep your mind open to the diversity of nature…really enjoyed this tour…stay blessed
Wow! What a world and life of it's own! Harrison you ROCK! Thank you and Pater for a great tour! Greetings from the great Central San Joaquin Valley in California! We grow most of the produce for our USA and the world!

Good Morning! Thanks for another video! Looking forward to it. They say that you shouldn't want time to hurry, because you'll never get it back, but Saturday mornings at 11am are an exception!
Awesome! I have lived in Tampa Bay, FL over 30 yrs. I've always wanted to go to the Everglades. Thank you for showing everyone such a beautiful part of Florida ..But one thing to remember is never go anywhere in Florida without bug spray and sunblock lol😊
Harrison you are a wonderful ambassador of the Everglades. Learned so much. It was fascinating. Peter once again thank you for including us on this journey. We live in an amazing world♥️

Thank you both ! Looking forward to the next one 🙂
I moved to Florida less than a year ago, and the one thing I found to be extraordinary is how friendly the Floridians are. They want to communicate with other people. Enjoyed watching, Harrison was a great tour guide!
Southern FL girl here for 50+ years 🙋♀️ Great video. Never knew about these places. A new bucket list destruction now. You find the most interesting people & places. Love your work. 👍🏆
My grandfather took me into the jungles of Florida and enjoyed all the wildlife in the 60s, I remember how we predicted it would all die out due to not taking care of the environment. The wildlife is so much less than I saw in the 60s. Wonderful memories.

I've lived here since '63. There is still plenty of nature and wildlife. Natural springs, Manatees, swamp, marsh and lakes everywhere. Just have to stay away from the big cities...which is in fact, getting harder and harder to do, sadly.

But, on the other hand, I remember when, in the 70s, many people said that cougars (what they call Florida panthers) were a myth. Now they are all over. But I know what you mean. Florida was so much better when it was mostly small towns and open land. Sarasota was great back then.

Awesome tour! Harrison was a fantastic guide. I had the stereotypical ideas of the Everglades. Thanks for correcting this!

Peter, you never disappoint. What a joy to see the hidden nuggets, treasures down there in the deep south. The people. The seafood. The surroundings.

Enjoying Peters awesome videos on a Saturday Morning, priceless!
Hi Peter, thanks for brining us great American videos. I eagerly wait for them every Saturday morn. I did a very fast boat ride on the Everglades, I truly recommend it. It was a blast. Hopefully, you will bring more of Florida to us viewers because it is my second best favorite state.
Thank you, Peter, for the respect and dignity that you show everyone. Your truly an authentic and compassionate person. This is such a wonderful episode.
Awesome adventure Peter! Thank you and Harrison. ❤
Love this so much. I've lived in South Florida for about 45 years and though I hate that it's become so overdeveloped in so many areas, I still love Florida and its history. People think that we don't have history but we do. I remember first going down to the Keys and Key West in the 1970s and it was still like a frontier town. The tourists had not yet come in droves and the cruise ships had not yet started docking there and it was truly paradise. Waking up in the morning in Key West hearing roosters crowing is my idea of heaven. You are so right Peter about preconceived notions, because the minute I saw your tour guide before he even spoke, I thought "oh there's an old Florida cracker" lol, and how wrong I was. His vocabulary and speaking manner puts me to shame. Look forward to your further adventures in Florida hopefully.

@@jeffrobdine after living in South Florida in the 1970s for a couple of years, I made the mistake of moving back up north, thinking that it would be permanent. Flash Forward a couple of years and we had six feet of snow and non-stop blizzard and ice storms while I'm watching Miami Vice on a Friday night wanting to punch myself for having moved back and that's when I decided to move back to Florida and I've never left.
It's an amazing feeling standing in the exact spot our ancestors stood once upon a time, remembering their stories adds another element of wonder.

@Johnny-ge7zs if you wanna go to Africa to see Giraffes, go ahead. I think Peter does these events to show you more of what places have to offer. My point is that Florida has more than what many know about as part of the state. There is a bunch of wildlife here if you know where/how to find. I talk to people who dont even know that we have big cats (panthers) that live here in Florida and you don't really see that in many of the other states.
Love your videos man!
Peter, you never ever disapoint with these incredible adventure videos. I'm not sure how you find these people and places, but you've got a blessed life, man.
