I have to disagree with you on the ballads in this album. For me they are filled with emotion. Various storms and saints and long & lost really tugged at my heart. Maybe it's cause I was going through some shit that the songs really spoke to me, but they are beautifully orchestrated and Flo's vocals are enchanting.

wishmaster I think the ballads provide some sort of reconciliation to herself. We hear all these raged vocals in songs like what kind of man and mother. It's like she's saying, yes I have anger in me but I have love too, for herself as well as for her audience. It's like being in the eye of the storm and still finding stability in all the madness. At the end of various storm Florence tells us to hold on to our heart, you keep it safe which explains this entire song.

In my opinion, Florence is one of the most virtuosic singers in the alternative game. Her range is quite large and her belting chest voice sounds effortless, her head and mixed voice sounds clear and precise (although a little harsh when she reaches her stratospheric range) and although she isn't a prevalent user of melismas, the intervals she hits are not easy. I think her albums are a great analogy for when a singer starts begins to understand just how good they are. For instance, Lungs relied so much on instrumentation and at times Florence was lost. Ceremonials were as if Florence was fighting the instrumentation for supremacy of the songs. In How Big How Blue How Beautiful, she's starting to understand that the instrumentation and her voice should join into a unified front.

From my experience, Florence albums take a while to grow on you. Initially, Ceremonials' "wall of sound" didn't appeal to me at all, but overtime it seemed to gradually weave its way into my soul, and became one of my all-time favourite albums - it's grandiose and overpowering, but in a way that is utterly mesmerizing, therapeutic and transporting. The same thing happens with individual songs - even once I'd got into Ceremonials, What the Water Gave Me was one of my least favourite tracks initially, before becoming one of my favourites. Likewise, this new album is gradually growing on me. I like all of the songs, but so far only the title track and St Jude have completely won me over - I absolutely adore the brass sections, and wish the album had more of them. But the rest of the songs do all have that magic Florence quality, hiding just beneath the surface, which will undoubtedly become more and more prominent with each listen.

Morduk Metalhead I can respect that and I would have to say I wasn't big on their last 2 releases as well. Ashes Of The Wake was my favorite release of theirs but considering this new album is coming from a fresh and new sense of anger, sadness, and hate.. mainly on Randy's end.. and with the album title and probably most of the songs on the new album being a reference to his experience at prison in Prague, I think it makes for a much more interesting album... especially lyrically. And that may not seem like much instrumentally but, in my opinion, the 2 new singles they've put out so far have stood out to me in ways I didn't expect it to. Especially in "512" .. that's easily my personal favorite song they've done since Laid To Rest.

You should totally review Fantastic Planet by Failure (and maybe afterwards their other two albums. Eh? Eh?), and seeing as they have a comeback album out in 19 days, you should review that too. :D

Would love to know your thoughts on COIN's album "COIN," Galantis' "Pharmacy," and Mumford & Sons' "Wilder Mind." Florence and the Machine's latest album is okay; it gets kind of dreary to my ears. I assume that's just due to my tastes in sounds. It's not bad, but it's just an okay album.

I am a huge fan of Florence but I only love select songs on the debut such as "between two lungs". Her new album has more songs that appeal to me such as "queen of peace". Overall I think that her new album is a 9/10. However, I completely agree with your verdict on ceremonials. Though I loved the song "all of this and heaven too", I think that the instrumentals for most of the tracks are a little "off"

The first time I listened to St Jude, I didn't like it much, but every time I listen to it, it becomes more infectious and beautiful. It seems really passionate as if she's singing to herself. I haven't done my research on jude just yet, but i believe it's about what shes the patron saint of

Anthony, I agree with most of your reviews and I disagree with others but i must say your the goat when it comes to reviewing music. Even if I disagree with things, your opinions makes a lot of sense (except for the weeknd hob and childish gambino) and I still need a rate for the pure heroine album. I think it's a 10.
