Floor Pan Replacement - Quick, Cheap And Easy

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In my opinion the worst part of any restoration is fixing old rusty floors. I've learned a few tricks over the years, so I figured I'd try to share some tips in this video.
The project is an old 4x4 Square Body but the principles translate over to basically any car/truck in need of repair.
Typically floor repair is one of the cheapest repairs you can do to a car. Most floor pans are readily available to make the job easier. Also since it will be under the car and under the carpet it doesn't have to look great. It needs to be strong, seal out the vehicles exhaust and be properly sealed to prevent further rust.
Let me know what you think of the video in the comments below.

DIYer tip on welding with gaps, metal coat hanger is your best friend. Use the same way as a tig filler rod. Cheap or free. People doubt the strength of it, I had to trail weld some camber adjusters on a rig a few yrs ago. All we had was coat hangers and some guy had a cutting torch. Long story short dude trail rigged for a couple more yrs and wrecked it pretty bad, everything else around the welds was torn or broke. Anyone else used coat hanger?? Great vids as always keep jamming away!

Just wanted to give you some insight on square body Chevy’s. I inherited an ‘86 from my grandpa. He bought it with 9,000 miles on it in ‘89. The floors rust out because the wing windows leak. The fix is either convert the window to a full roll up window (not an “original” repair) or order new window seals from LMC Truck or Brothers Trucks. They carry the upgraded window seals and locks that help keep water out. Another thought, inlinetube.com carries replacement pre-bent brake line and parking brake parts. They are decently priced and the lines fit perfectly. I had to replace all the lines on my truck and it took about 1.5 hours to replace all the lines. They carry a large variety of years, males and models. Truck looks great!

Now they have what they call woolwax it comes in black smells great and makes the frame look new. I just did my truck in it, I bought a gallon off of Amazon cost 60.00 us dollars a gallon. Check it out, might be something to get into places around here charge 150.00 to 200.00 us dollars a vehicle. Oh and don't forget Gun metal gray color for the truck when you paint it lol!

Don't believe I ever watched somebody weld floors into a square body while listening to "Reuben's Train".

Nice video, I'm working on 87 square body too. Mines a factory 454 with a whopping 235hp. It is taking forever to get it done. Though I'm really enjoying working on it. My dad bought it new and now I get to rebuild it. Keep the video coming!

OTG! He’s awesome! Used the same patching technique on my 65 barracuda. But it is a rotisserie car. Done lots of floor pans, mostly with flat metal i form as necessary. Worst is grinding welds after. Lots of noise, compressor runs lots. I like the galvanizing primer after patching. Rick uses rust convertor too, canuck tire carries it. I buy 6 at a time.

Yeah one day I'd like to do floors on a rotisserie instead of jack stands
