Flip House Episode 9: Building a Patio

Welcome back to Episode 9 of my Flip House series! Today it’s all about the DIY backyard patio and how I brought it to life with smart Hubspace products from @homedepot! My friend Sam from @diyhuntress and I installed a patio from scratch and it looks SO GOOD. This process was definitely A LOT of work and heavy lifting but I would definitely do it again. Before Sam got here, I removed the grass where the patio was ultimately going to live. There are machines that can help with this but they are HEAVY and I was working alone so… a shovel was the only thing I used. Sam arrived the next day and we started by trying to till the dirt a bit. My tiller was being super stubborn so ultimately we rented one from the Home Depot to help us turn up the soil a bit and make it easier to level and grade. We also rented a tamper to help with this process also. The first layer to go down was the gravel. I carried the bags over, and Sam spread them out. We tamped these down a few times, sprayed them with water and tamped again. Step 2 was to put down the paver sand. This is how we will be able to get our pavers level and just where they need to be. We raked the sand smooth and tried to get this as level and to grade as possible before laying each paver individually. The pavers come with a map so we knew exactly what pattern to use. Our system was basically to place each one down, see if it was wiggly or uneven and then add or remove sand accordingly. Last step is to sweep polymeric sand in between the joints and spray it with water to activate it. This locks the pavers in place and will hopefully prevent any shifting with the changing weather.
Next up is bringing this space to life thanks to my Hupspace smart products from the Home Depot. All of these were SO easy to install and thanks to that transformer I was able to install the landscape lights all on my own. The string lights look so cute hanging from those DIY planter poles and the new deck light is just what that space needed. The deadbolt was too chic to hide on the back door so that actually lives on my new and improved front porch. (See Episode 8!!).
I am so proud of this space and hope you enjoyed watching it come together as much as I did! Please check out all the products linked below and leave me a comment if you have any questions!

The patio looks fantastic! And those lights are useful AND fun. The deck/porch complements the house so much better now that it's gray.

Turned out amazing! Those hub space lights blew my mind! What did you do with the landscape wire? Is it just running along the patio on top of the ground?
