FLIGHT REVIEW -- Dynam F4U Corsair 1270mm Wingspan Warbird

Ойын-сауық

This Dynam F4U Corsair is a model that came into the shop recently which is a nice looking and really sweet flying warbird. The airplane has good speed and decent vertical and is extremely forgiving in the air. The Dynam airplanes don't come as pre-fabricated as some other models, but are not difficult to assembly and they do fly nicely once together. At the heart of it, I used a Spektrum AR620 receiver (bit.ly/SpkAR620) which works great! Spektrum file download available at thercgeek.com/Downloads #F4UCorsair #FlightReview #ScaleModel

I flew mine on a 5S 2200 all the way forward on stock setup, real nice & perfect CG. Got sick of replacing retracts so moved it on.

I had one of these before losing it to a signal loss on an Orange RX (never again!) The retracts stopped working after the first flight off of grass. Both jack screws in the retract mechanisms were stripped. The teeth on those screws are super fine and don’t last long. I replaced them the FMS Corsair retracts and it was almost a drop in fit using a wheel collar as a spacer due to the FMS struts being slightly shorter. It was a greater flyer though! 10+ minutes!

That’s good to know about the retracts. Thanks for the tip! Sorry about the orange rx signal loss though. That’s never fun. 😢

i have had 4 of them. one fatal flaw is the rudder hinge is crap.... make sure you reinforce it. all 4 of mine the rudder hinge failed in flight.. little foam tac works well...

Looks good in the air, almost 'floaty', which seems odd for a warbird. It also looks like it sticks to the runway during landing/touch-n-go (as in not bouncy). Would be a great step up from a trainer. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, it’s pretty light for its size and so is a little floaty, but then also lands super nicely. Pretty fun warbird and I agree, a great candidate for a first warbird.

This was my first plane some years ago. It is a fantastic flying plane. The landing gear are WEAK WEAK WEAK. My solution was to install FMS corsair gear, much better. The eventual problem was a lack of any kind of reinforcement through the gull section of the wing. This eventually lead to a very sloppy flying plane as the wing eventually gets to the point that if you hold the plane up by the wingtips and bounce them up and down, you will be amazed at the amount of flex that has crept into the wing structure. I also added 3 panel flaps to mine for that scale look, but they aren't needed.

You’re the second person to mention the fms gear as a replacement, so appreciate that intel! Yeah, the whole wing carry through structure hinges on the glue joint, so definitely needs a good bond there. I was was surprised by the lack of a carry through, but as you say it’s carrying it through the fuselage.

@@Thercgeek The whole wing develops alot of flex over time. Got to be such a sloppy flyer I eventually dismantled it and moved on to planes that were of better quality. Nothing against Dynam, for what they are they fly fantastic. I still have a Dynam tempest, on which I installed eflite retracts angled and twisted in the wing as they should be. The factory gear were exactly on the CG making it so tippy on the ground as to be unusable. I also have a Dynam Waco, yellow, generation 1, completely stock, FANTASTIC plane.

I'm curious to hear about the deviation from the standard end points for the servos, it is a bit different from the manual, is 6mm up and down alright for the elevator, I've got it set up at 10mm elevator low rate. I haven't flown it yet but I will be this coming weekend and want to get the best flight out of it. The plane flies brilliantly in the video

  • @Thercgeek

The model is quite pitch sensitive, so it doesn’t need a lot of throw. You may find the 10mm ok depending on the feel you prefer. Also, as I mentioned in the vid, the recommend cg is too far aft which makes it worse. So, I recommend starting at the same cg I started with and exploring from there.

@@Thercgeek awesome! Yeah I was extremely impressed by how well you flew in the video, flew very scale which is what I'm aiming for, but I was looking at how little the elevator moved at 6mm travel, and checked the manual saying it needed like 10-15mm travel so I was slightly confused, I'm also using only a 2200Mah battery all the way forward so I'll need to add some lead wheel weights up front for CG. But given the way you've flown it, I'll stick to your settings. Thankyou so much for the reply on such an old video, really appreciate it!

Hello my friend, a very nice video, i'm also interested in this plane. Can you tell me how difficult it is, complete with battery and CG balanced, ready to fly. The manufacturer writes 1650g ?????? but I think he is mine without a battery !! Greetings André

Unfortunately, I don’t have the model anymore so I’m not able to weigh it for you. That said, I wouldn’t worry about the weight in all honesty. The model flys extremely light.

Isnt it better to CG the plane updsie down with the gear up

  • @Thercgeek

    @Thercgeek

    4 жыл бұрын

Inverted or upright doesn’t matter. On a low wing airplane, it’s usually easier to check cg with it inverted. Regarding the gear position, gear down (landing config) is typically preferred (unless specified otherwise). This at least ensures the cg is at least correct for the most flight critical position.

I have the "upgrade" V2 version, which in my opinion is still junk, with the worst retracts you can find, replaced mine with FMS retracts, after 1 landing on a grass field that you cound use as putting green. I hear nobody about the ton of lead you need to put in the cowl to get the CG right, even with a 350gram 4S all the way forward in the nose, but I think reviewer that get planes from rc companys do not want to say anything bad about the product, because they will not get anymore freebeey,s So never trust a reviewer. a good pilot can make a brick look great in the air

  • @Thercgeek

Yeah, the dynam retracts are not good, but I didn’t have to add a bunch of nose weight. If I did, I would have mentioned it. Also, if you watched the whole vid, you’ll see I provided the cg location I’m flying the airplane at along with the control deflections.
