    Been a while since ive got a 45/7 series diff. But in the 80s the mounting studs are bad for stretching and the diff center and leak and frett and carry on. I pull the studs out, being a through hole i get high tensile alan head cap screws and wind them in from the inside. Works a treat! Might be wkrth to remember with the 1 million horsepowers going through it and all the torques

    Hi terry Always informative and educational 👍 I’ve been contemplating putting a Trutrac in the Hilux - as a poor mans locker ..lol - so this is quite relevant to me and will be interested to hear your thoughts on how it performs. Keep up the good work Cheers..

    Terry, is that the original FJ45 diff? You mentioned below in another comment that the Limited Slip was from Just Differentals. I can't seem to find anything on there to suit the 40 series. Cheers mate, look forward to hearing from you.

    It’s an original diff housing and ring gear mounted on a torsen centre section. The closest thing to a locker you can get. If they don’t list it either they discontinued it or the website is wrong because that’s where I got it from. I’d contact them directly. Cheers👍😎

    So Terry, it begs the question, why wouldn’t you, me, anyone just put an LSD in instead of an expensive diff locker in our 4WD’s? Or are people already doing that? And why wouldn’t a manufacturer do that too?

  • @JafffaAdventures

    @JafffaAdventures

    3 жыл бұрын

    Good questions David. I think the LSD has its place as a traction aid on-road. It’s quiet and it still allows a differential action when cornering for example. A locker does not, and that’s a problem on bitumen or other hard surfaces. Nowadays most manufacturers supply LSD’s. I suspect in the past that they did not because of cost. Then one manufacturer decided to do it as a competitive advantage over the others. This then forced them all to do it just to keep up, until it became the norm. That’s my guess anyway, but it’s just that...a guess. Thanks for watching and commenting mate, I sincerely appreciate it😎👍

  • @JeremyPetho

    An LSD is not suitable for everyone to fit in their 4WD simply because it doesn't give as much traction as a locker. If you want to get the maximum off-road performance out of a vehicle, only a locker can do this so many people remove their open diffs and LSDs to replace them with lockers. LSDs are commonly fitted by manufacturers, a lot more 4WDs come with LSDs standard than lockers. This is because the LSDs are smooth, quiet, idiot-proof, also they improve traction both on and off road (compared to a locker which gives better traction off-road but is not suitable to use on-road).

    The LSD is perfect for my application as explained in the video. Different applications will dictate different solutions coupled with individuality and personal equals a variety of possible solutions. I’m not advocating one over the other, simply showing how to fit one if you choose to go down this route. Cheers😎👍
