FJ45 Landcruiser Restoration | 79 Series Handbrake Cable and Hydroboost Braking Power!! | Episode 15

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Jafffa Adventures continues the 40 Series Landcruiser restomod series.
The restoration of my Toyota Landcruiser FJ45 continues. In my last video, I completed the transmission tunnel fabrication and floor modifications to suit the 6L90e six speed automatic transmission.
In this episode I tackle the braking system. Specifically, I install new brake lines, hook up a 79 Series handbrake cable so I have an operational handbrake, and install a Hydroboost power assisted braking cylinder and connect it to my 80 Series master cylinder.
This braking system should provide more than enough stopping power to pull up my LSA swapped FJ45 Landcruiser.
I have two more topics on brakes in the library if you missed them. The first is installing a disc brake front end on the FJ45. The link is below.
• FJ45 Landcruiser Resto...
The second is installing 80 Series Landcruiser rear backing plates and brakes so that I can set up an operational handbrake using my 79 Series cable in this video. The link for that is below.
• FJ45 Landcruiser Resto...
Follow along with me on this restoration journey...laugh, cry, and maybe even learn something!

looks good, couple of suggestions... you need to put a few coils in the brake lines from the body to chassis where they come up to the master cyl to allow for chassis/body mount flex or use some teflon flex lines also you need a bracket for that bias valve cant be just supported by the lines.

I am learning a few things from you videos. This one taught me how pipe flares get done. As a junior assistant farm hand I never learned pipe flaring. I don't want to sound like a black lesbian Jewish trade unionist (we all need one of those) but pipe flaring just isn't my job. I can build a Saturn V rocket but I can't do the pipe flaring......

  • @JafffaAdventures

Thanks Warren, I’m glad you found some useful information in what I have put together. The FJ45 handbrake cable I used was the stock cable that came on the car. Mines a 74 model so it came with a tailshaft handbrake which was located between the tailshaft and the rear facing output shaft of the transfer case. As such the original cable only runs half way done the chassis to this location, not all the way to the back axle. I trust this is the information you were after. Cheers👍😎

The brake line is not actually copper, it’s steel but copper coated. We will see if I have any dramas when I go to register the vehicle but I don’t expect to. Cheers😎👍

Not trying to be an arsehole (& or a smart arse), but I hope those brake lines are only copper coated & not copper? Plus, as far as mounting them is concerned, in a modified vehicle, it is required the mounting tabs to be no further than 300mm apart, I would say that is for a reason? (I'm certainly not picking on anything, just asking 😉) A great move on the proportioning valve, though I've never seen one mounted mid air in the engine bay before (we usually mount them on the chassis towards the rear somewhere, it doesn't mean it wont work 😉). Those Toyota rear hand brake cables are a PITA but I honestly love your fix to the problem, it should surely work! 👍 As always, Just loving the content !!

Yes mate, they are copper coated only. Good tip on the 300mm distance, I’ll check mine out. Thanks for sharing your insights and for watching Rod, cheers 😎👍
