Elsie Hundred , I can't reply to your comment as your account is set to private! When I go to the workshop ill post them up. Not sure if all bearing shops have the same number though. Just make sure the bearings are Koyo or Timken.

Hi Dan & Car, Thank you for posting this video. I have a 80 series, diesel Land cruiser HDJ 80. (Automatic Transmission) I have changed the tire size from stock 275/70 R16 to 325/85 R16, I am confused about whether the original gear ratio is 3.7 or 4.1 as I find conflicting info on the web. (Unless I open it). To be safe I am thinking of installing Ring & Pinion of ratio 4.88 with bigger tires. I need your help in knowing: 1. What total parts would I need for this install? 2. What manufacturer would you suggest? 3. Best place to buy the parts you suggest? I am located in Ontario Canada so I would be ordering on Line. Would be grateful for your response. Ashir

Hello Ashir, I wish we could run that kind of tyre size here in Australia! Its hard to know what ratio you have as it changed depending on where the car was sold, which engine/ gearbox configuration you had as well. If you go to a website like www.amayama.com/ you can type in the VIN number and it will tell you which parts are inside the car from factory. Then google the part number and it will say the ratio of the gears. 1: Depends on how far you want to go. If you want to build EVERTHING, then the part list is very long. If you just want to rebuild the Diff centre then you will need the following. Diff bearing rebuild kit (will come with everything you need) New genuine axle seals Grease to repack your CV/ wheel bearings if they are in good condition. Solid pinion space which will need to be machined to your diff centre. 2: Anything but Chinese brand. Usually Japaneses or USA build parts are best. For bearings I use Koyo, NTN or Timken. 3: I use local importers here, so not sure which online shop would deliver to you. For genuine bearings and seals, amayama is a good website and is usually cheaper then local Toyota. Ebay has some good crown wheel kits. www.marks4wd.com/ if a really good supplier as well. Hope this helps! Merry Christmas!

Whats the advantage to not using a crush sleeve? thank you

Wheelin Wheeler Hi! A crush sleeve compresses under heavy load and will cause the pinion depths to change. This will then put a large load on the crown gear and shatter teeth. Solid pinion once set correctly will never change pinion depth.

What could cause my diff to loose lots of oil (1 liter on 1000km) via the diff breather line? What causes pressure in a diff? I think the oil is boiling (too hot). Any ideas??

If its a new car take it back to the dealer. Could be to much oil in the housing, so its spitting out the excess. Maybe its missing the splash guard for the pipe? The bearings could to to tight and heating the oil. If it has a air locker, could be on and leaking air into the housing.
