Damn, wished I'd seen this before buying in two new 57 movements lol

Just a note to the viewers. If you want to handle a battery with tweezers use plastic tweezers so you don't short it out even if you plan on eventually replacing it. Why, because if the battery still has some charge you can test the repaired movement with the old battery, and once you are satisfied it is working properly, then install a new battery for the customer, do final assembly, test, correct default hand position, set and deliver to the customer. New VD57B movements are readily available for less than $20.00 each. You can buy several and strip for parts if you want to. Before installing a new electronics flex circuit, it is wise to clean the contact pad oxidation with Deoxit D5L in the liquid applicator bottle, use a lint free swab.

I agree with the battery handling, of course plastic tweezers should be used. So far I dealt with about 8000+ watches, both quartz and mechanical and I have a stock of wide spectrum of watch movements for using as spare parts., so I buy a new movement very seldom. In regards of cleaning the traces of electronic board I will disclose some secret to you. I am an electrical design engineer by profession, watchmaking is just my hobby and I learned how to handle electronics a long time ago. In this case I took already de-oxidized board from stock, but removed a dust by Rodico. Anyway, thanks for your notes.

If it's not the electronics module, which you had already replaced, then some mechanical issue in the are of coil, associated with the faulty subdial. I pointed to this possibility in the video around 3 min time point. Try to disassemble that area and see if there is anything suspicious, like broken tooth or some bent, or just a dirt. Good luck!

Thank you! Moebius 9000 oil is preferable for quartz watches, but 8000 should be sufficient as well. Good luck!

Hi! Can you be so kind to look on my problem? Do you have any ideas about this? I noticed in the manual that you are supposed to do an IC reset by pressing the A and B buttons. I did that and since then the button A when pressed makes a weird beeping sound. If I press it several times then the chronograph starts to work. When pressed a second time it beeps and it resets. And all these after the IC reset. I tried to reset the IC again and again but the problem persists. Any ideas on how to solve the issue. Thank you.

I assume, you have the same movement in your watch. It doesn't have a mean of providing any sound, so I wonder where the beeping sound comes from. At the same time, I think your movement malfunctions and needs repair or replacement. Sorry, cannot help more. Hope you will get your watch back to normal.

Can you show me what design is the stem in this watch movement?

I cannot show the stem outside of the video, but I can refer you to the part number of the stem. It is 351177. If you look it at Google, it will list multiple sources where this stem could be bought. Hi Anchieta! I'd check the battery first by trying another one. Next I'd check if there is some shortage in the battery compartment. If no shortage, then I'd replace an electronic board, because this is what takes energy from the battery - this module and coil. But if watch shows a correct time, then coil is OK. Replace module, if you can. Good luck!

Thank you for your question. The electronics module (board) could be checked indirectly by checking the coil resistance. If coil is good, but watch doesn't work at all, then electronics board should be suspected. Before any conclusion, the battery also should be checked. Another reason for watch being non functioning could be any hard mechanical problem caused by water damage, rust, broken gears. Horological methods have many procedures of testing quartz watches at manufacturing labs, using expensive equipment. is vd 57 the same as Vd57b....... i have the same problem with the three sub dials that do not work, the coils work , where can i source an electronic board for this watch

These movements are the same with the difference of date window orientation. I never saw VD57 without letter at the end, and my search showed that VD57 and VD57B are the same movement with a date window at 3:00 o'clock. It also can be used for dials with a date window at 4:30. The VD57C is the same movement, but has a date window at 4:00 o'clock position. If you do not have spare electronic module, then maybe replacing a whole movement is more effective. I just found one on eBay at around $13. Hello.. I have a problem here.. My vd57b draining batteries after 5-6 hours (Sony SR920SW).. And yes I do circuit reset after replacement.. What I mean by 'drain' is the battery doesn't response after checking it in microtest (cell).. After about an hour, the 'drained' battery hve small response in cell test and can be used again for 30mins.. I hope I have clue what happening..

Hi Yoga Dimas! I see two reasons of the battery got drained so quick. One - is the battery itself. Did you try another battery? The second reason is the electronic module, which might become defective, or has some dirt that is causing some shortage. The module could be replaced, if you can find a donor. Hope this helps. ​@@yogadimas9643 Cleaning the module is fine, but if it's defective, than cleaning wouldn't help. I got another idea why the drain can occur. It could be a shortage in one of the coils. If you can measure the coils resistance it could give a clue. The normal resistance for this movement is within 1-1.3K.

It shows the same R level "30" for all three coils

I have an issue with this same movement. It stops every night at around midnight. After I pick up the watch it starts running normal again until put down and again stops at midnight. Any ideas as to what’s wrong with it?

Does it happen at midnight only or also at noon with the same hands positions? If you answer this question, it would become easier to get some clue on the issue. Thanks.

@@TravelWithMEnow I think it could relate to the date change at midnight, when date indicator ring starts to move and via some gears could prevent hour and/or minute wheels from advancing. Does seconds hand moves back & forth or it just stops also?

@@TravelWithMEnow Did you check if hands touch each other or second hand touching the crystal (even slightly) at midnight point, when watch stops? There is a small chance they do, because they pass the noon point without problem, but it would be worth to check.

What is the difference between Vd57B .VD57C and VD57?

I have just bought this watch from ebay and it's not working. Battery is 1.54vs so i will check the coils and mechanics if all OK maybe change the circuit board as you did.

You have a good plan. Sometimes putting a little bit of oil to the pivot holes can get gears moving. Good luck!

Sadly the cools have resistance and the circuit is all black. Looks like I need a new movement shame. The seller was very dishonest regarding its condition.

@@1961UK Resistance in coils is a good news. The color of the electronics module doesn't prove much that it's not good. Maybe you can find spare. But if both coils and board are good, then I'd disassemble the movement to see what's wrong or just it needs cleaning. I think you already know all these suggestions. 😃

The tachymeter is really useless since the central seconds hand isn't the chronograph.
