Fixing a GameBoy Pocket With No Power or Sound

Ғылым және технология

Have a GameBoy you want fixed or modded send me a message through my website (bradyrepairs.com) and we can discuss cost and shipping.
This time around I have a GameBoy Pocket that I bought recently to fix. It has no power or sound, but both end up being extremely easy and cheap to diagnose and fix.

Wow, thanks, I had had a GB pocket sitting for a while, I was wondering if it blue a fuse. I checked it, it showed a reading but, I did just put a temp jumper there to test and she booted right up. Thanks. This has been sitting on my desk for a while and now I will have it working again.

Wow! Excellent job. Im picking one of these up with what sounds like the same issues. Im going to use this video and maybe attempt this myself. Where can you find the replacement fuse? Is there only one fuse for it?

I ordered my 1ohm resistors that I used as fuses from digikey, but they charge pretty heavily for shipping ($7.99 shipping on under $1in resistors). The cheapest option would be to get on ebay and buy whatever amount of 1ohm 1/4 watt resistors is the cheapest. As far as I know that's the only fuse for a gameboy pocket. Best of luck fixing the one you have.

Could always test for continuity on that fuse instead of guessing too

I messed with the headphone jack a little off camera to see if the piece of copper that breaks/completes (I can't remember which it does) the circuit for the jack was making a good contact. To test this I hooked my multi meter up in continuity mode and attached it to both sides of the contact point and pushed the contacts together with a pick tool to make sure it was connecting. What can happen is if that contact is stuck it will tell the GameBoy headphones are connected at all times and will keep the sound from coming out of the speaker. In this case it was a blown speaker that was the problem and I just didn't realize it when I read the resistance of the speaker. In the video what I did was forget to resolder the headphone jack after I had taken it out and if the jack is deleted from the circuit no sound will come out of the speaker. Sorry if this is long winded I just realized I didn't explain everything all that well when I went back and rewatched the video to answer your question.
