    I'm a big fan and the production value of your channel is amazing! I have a question; with the Pokemon GBC or GBA there's art design going on the outer lense itself, which you can't replace if it's scuffed because that's that lense art design is the main feature of the limited edition! So, is there anyway of removing those scuff marks while retaining the design? Thanks and keep up the good work :)

    Thanks for the kind words! That's a great question -- you may have noticed in the video my GBC has scratches on the screen too. I've had good luck using a very light abrasive polish like Brasso to remove fine scratches. It may not work well on big/deep scratches, and I would avoid the parts of the screen where there's the art design, but it's worth a shot. Good luck!

    I haven't been able to find info about this across the net so I'll ask here just in case you might know. My GBC has a "buzz" to the sound from both the speaker or the headphone jack. Which I think would indicates that it's something about "how" the system perceives and sends the audio out. Any idea what that might be from and how to fix it? Thanks!

    My Game Boy Color has a problem: The speaker works very quietly, and I can hear some crackling-noising sound. I can hear sound only if putting GBC right next to my ear, and it's kinda distorted. But headphone jack works perfectly fine, and when I want to play some of my games at home, I connect my console to these bigger speakers that I often use with my PC. What can be the cause? Do I need to replace the speaker?

    LarBob Doomer Well, I lost my Nintendo-ish screwdriver (the one with three... wings? legs?) Anyway there is currently no way to disassemble the device. I'm also wondering why so much GBC's are suffering the speaker "cancer". Does it have to do something with new case design? Or Nintendo used cheaper materials to make these? I did never meet any sound problems with Classic, or Advance, so why Color?

  • @ThisDoesNotCompute

    @ThisDoesNotCompute

    +Robciomixxnfs In your case, if the headphone jack works fine, then the problem is with the speaker itself. My understanding is that the problem is due to adhesive inside the speaker getting old and failing.

    My recent GBC pick up: Headphone jack works (audio is very dirty...high pitched whining noise in the background) but the speaker doesn't work. Replaced the speaker, still nothing. Tested all the connections for the speaker and jack; all good. So I'm guessing capacitor issue?

    I got my GBC new when it came out, but it has been showing some problems with the sound for the last 10-15 years. I will be able to hear sound while I play only if it is on either max volume or 3/4 of volume. If I put it on either 1/2 or 1/4 of the volume I will not hear anything. The other problem that I have is that somehow no AA batteries will last enough. Whenever I put new batteries, they ALWAYS last a short time, and I am not sure if that could be a problem with the batteries input, the power switch, or just the red light near the screen. Is there anything I could do to fix that?

    I have an atomic purple gbc that had no sound out of the speaker. It had a broken trace that went under the cartridge connector from the headphone jack to the sound amp chip. I ran a new wire to it and put the board in a grape case so it wouldn't show. Same board wouldn't power up because of a corroded via between select and start.

  • @maxz7780
    @maxz77809 жыл бұрын

    When the speaker is extremely quiet it's almost certainly because its adhesive failed and the voice coil separated from the diaphragm. You can simply use superglue to get them back together and working, though I don't know how permanent of a fix it is. Like you said, GBCs with no sound are common but I couldn't find a single solution except replacement until I figured out the cause. If you still have the speaker you replaced and feel like it's up your alley you could make the first video with a no parts or soldering fix for this.

    On my Game Boy Color speaker there are small side noises, but I can hear them just by bringing GBC to the ear. But the main problem with the headphone jack. if I connect the headphones, I hear loud noises instead of pure music. What should I do? I would be happy if you could help.

    Mine has a minor annoyance with the sound. For one thing, there is a slight hum that's especially noticeable with headphones, but seems to come out of the speakers as well. And whenever I touch the volume wheel (not even dialing it up or down, just tapping it slightly), the sound goes quieter/louder or the sound only comes out of one speaker when wearing headphones. Any idea what may be causing that?

  • @ThisDoesNotCompute

    @ThisDoesNotCompute

    The hum can be a normal thing for Game Boys. As for the volume wheel, it sounds like it has dirty contacts inside. Try spinning it back and forth a bunch of times, that may clear it up. Good luck!

    I have distorted audio in both the headphone jack and speaker, I replaced with a working headphone jack and still didn't work. The audio is at a lower volume but not too much. It sounds like there's a broken connection somewhere, like, arcing. Could this be a capacitor problem? Everything else works just fine, the volume wheel has an effect on the sound even. When I turn it down, it gets quieter, but when I move the volume wheel, the "distortion" seems to get worse. The distortion sounds like the audio is cutting in and out fast, like the sound if you don't plug your headphones in to a headphone jack all the way. Does anyone know a way to check is the volume wheel is working?

    too bad you never went over fixing the headphone jack itself.. I found a problem same problem with one that I'm fixing, and then recalled seeing this video. Do you know of a good way to fix the headphone jack, if it's possible? Thanks.

    B-Rad Gaming Fixing the jack itself is pretty difficult as it's pretty much one molded piece. You might be able to stick a tiny piece of sandpaper between the contacts that control whether sound goes to the headphones or speaker, but the more surefire way to fix it would be to just replace the jack. Good luck!

    +B-Rad Gaming I don't know if you still need help with this, BUT if it's a contact issue, you can use a dremel with a polishing tip. The tip you want to use is white cotton - just fit it into the headphone jack and turn the dremel on for a few seconds; then blow into the headphone jack ALA classic NES. Should clean up a poor connection and you've got a "like-new" assembly! Failing that, replace the headphone jack.

    You don't explain what "continuity" is and what mode to use on your multimeter to test it or what reading should be expected.

    Please take the board out of the plastic shell before soldering anything, special your rare and valuable special editions. I know someone like you probably is confident enought to not burn the plastic shell by accident, but I don't think is good practice or that it should be shown in a tutorial. I've seen before plastic burns due to this very practice.
