In today’s episode of Retro Renew, we’re going to refurb 3 Gameboy Pocket consoles. 2 of the consoles I picked up from Japan on eBay, while the 3rd Gameboy Pocket is from my collection and is in need of a new LCD. This refurb video will show you how to disassemble the Gameboy Pocket, repair a burned in LCD, clean the consoles effectively, and reassemble the units.

Bybthe way had the same issue with stickers on a GBA i got from a friend it was white, thanks to your videos i decides to switch the case to a clear orange my video will be up next week. Thanks again man

Absolutely in love with your channel! As for the horizontal lines, those are usually pretty easy to fix as all you have to do is reflow the solder on the lcd ribbon cable.

to be fair id buy that "sticker shocked" GBPoket and just clean it up
Question: if I have a gameboy pocket and it’s the older model that DOES NOT have the light indicator can I still buy a NEWER gameboy pocket shell to replace it?

Yes you can! They are compatible. You will just have an led hole with no led but you can buy a screen lens that doesn’t have the hole so it can cover it up on the shell. Hope this helps! Cheers buddy!

Do you know why these screens burn like this it's a very common issue I've seen?

I think it is primarily caused by users leaving their units exposed to direct sunlight (ie on a window sill). I can only imagine it is probably mostly by children who don’t know any better. It is strange though that it is such a common occurrence. Thank you for the question Nate! Cheers!

I mostly see it on Game Boys. I think it is due to they type of polarizer used as well as how it is adhered to the lcd.
