Fix Loud Squeaky Skateboard/Longboard Trucks

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Remove the noisy annoying sounds of skateboard trucks easily.
Go to ratvision.com/ for more info.
For great prices on Longboard and Skateboard equipment we recommend
stokedskateboards.com/
There are a lot of videos out on the web that show how to fix loud annoying squeaks from skateboard trucks, but nearly all of them don't actually fix the problem. Some how to videos actually show the trucks squeaking even after the person tried to fix it.
Most of the videos on the internet, if not all, recommend soap shavings in the pivot cup bushing. Although this may work on some trucks it usually has no lasting effects.
Soap is made from plant fat and/or animal fat and sodium hydroxide. Soap breaks down in moisture and does not work well as a lasting lubricant, which is what people are using it for.
We don't recommend using lubricants or powders because they don't last long, can damage the trucks bushings, are messy, and can attract dirt.
What we recommend using to fix squeaky skateboard trucks is pure paraffin wax. Paraffin wax works for a very long time. It is commonly used for thing like candle making, making food and candy shinny, sealing jars, and beauty products.
A lot of candles are made of pure paraffin wax, but many candles are also made from a mix of waxes including, paraffin wax, beeswax, tallow (beef fat), soy, and palm (carnauba) wax. These candle waxes are not nearly as slippery as paraffin wax, so we don't recommend candles, unless you are absolutely sure they are just paraffin wax.
Paraffin wax is available at nearly all grocery stores and many drug stores. A popular brand in the USA is Gulf Wax. A box of wax is only around $5. You can save the rest, give the rest to a local shop for some stickers, or a little discount if they are willing, or use it for waxing ledges. Paraffin wax is the absolute best wax for ledges, rails, and curbs.
The following steps are used for all types of trucks
Steps for removing squeaks from noisy skateboard trucks:
1. Remove the hanger
2. Using a grater, knife, or potato peeler, shave small pieces of paraffin wax. You only need enough for small a couple big pinches.
3. Take a large pinch of wax and place it in the pivot cup bushing located in the truck baseplate. Try to cover the entire surface of the bushing. Use more was shaving if needed.
4 With a solid piece of wax rub both sides of the hanger where the kingpin bushings touch. Not all noise and squeaks come from the pivot cup bushings so it's best to get every possible area.
5. Rub wax on the truck hanger pivot too. Just the area that goes in the pivot cup bushing.
6. Assemble the truck and hear the problem solved.

Didn't really see any comments telling if this worked out for them or not. So I tried it and it worked out great for me. I did it exactly how he did in the video and I used pure paraffin wax by the name of "household wax" it came in a box of four bars for about $5 and a grocery store here in California. I will be skating tomarrow and see if this wax holds up to the job. Hopefully I won't be taking my trucks apart anytime soon to re-wax it.

Speed rings/axle washers are used as a spacer between the hanger bearing stop and inner bearing, and the axle nut and outer bearing. They keep the bearings from rubbing on these parts. Washers are also used to evenly distribute pressure when the nut is tightened. Always best to use them.

Ha. That would be a great video! I did this a couple times about 15 years ago when I was in high school. I skated to school but wanted a board small enough to put in my locker. You got the right idea. Just use cardboard or heavy paper for a template and trace the cut out on the deck. Just give it a little tail like you see on Penny boards. Make sure you have your template dead center so the truck mounting holes don't end up crooked.

  • @RatVision

    @RatVision

+Eightbitacid Sounds like a good science project. How much poison is on unwashed fruit? How much washing do you need to do to remove all the poison? How much does running fruit under water for a few seconds actually remove the poison? Does it? How much poison does the average person actually consume? Not only is there poison, a lot of fruit is made with GMO to make them last longer, smell better, taste sweeter, grow bigger, etc. And what effect does that have on your body? This is why people buy organic. "All natural" is NOT organic. Snake venom is 100% all natural, and that stuff will kill you. So, you can't believe everything you hear in the skate industry or any industry really.

Oh wow... Its funny how this really worked for me. I had a white candle in my kitchen in the drawer... I actually didn't wanna go downstairs to the grocery store... Yes here in NYC we call it going downstairs. I used what I have and got rid of the squeaks. Well done...

Do you keep your trucks loose? Are they the bushings that come with the trucks?

Is this how it appears when you are not standing on your board or does this happen while you are riding?

LOL to both your statements/questions. The washer thing is a whole video we plan to make. The washer is a very important part of the truck, because it changes the way the bushings respond. It's pretty technical to talk about in a short response. When the bushing compresses to one side the cup washer creates a smaller bulge storing more energy for the bushing to rebound with. A flat washer doesn't do much and is less effective, because now the entire compressed side is bigger-less energy/rebound

Yes. snowboard wax is usually only be made of paraffin wax. Some brands add stuff to make it stick better to the board, but it should work fine even if you have wax with added stuff.

Silicone grease on both sides of the pivot cup took all the squeak away, also on the bushings on the king pin at the truck. Work great!

A grinding noise is going to be coming from the bearings. That's not good for a new board. See if it is all the wheels or maybe one. Try to locate the bearing or bearings that are possible making the noise. What did you get?

Watch our cleaning grip tape video. You'll need to heat it up a little bit with either a hair dryer or warm water. Don't get it too hot. You can also try using a wire brush that we use in the video. If you need more help, send us a private message through our channel.

The bushings were making the noise. That's why when you tightened them it went away. You can put wax on the trucks and bushings to make the noise go away. It is normal for some new trucks to squeak.

It's a surfboard nose guard that fits perfectly on decks. It's simply called a nose guard by Surfco Hawaii. It's pricey only because you buy it as part of a kit with stuff you don't need. It's about $16, but works great, and really isn't that much considering the price for decks.

Probably. Some skate waxes may have other waxes (like bees wax) in it that we don't recommend. It should work fine.
