Now I have a mental image of someone taking his car in to be MoT'd. A post-it note stuck to the dash has an arrow pointing to a switch in some auxiliary switch panel with an unrelated symbol, and the text, "That's the starter. Don't tell anyone." XD

You can scroll frame by frame with the keys when paused. Makes it a lot easier to find it. J and L are 10 sec back and forward, the arrow keys left and right are 5 seconds. K is pause, F is full screen, C is closed captions, M is mute. 0 restarts the video, 1 through 9 will skip it to a section that is 1/10 of the video length (so 4 takes you to 4/10 of the video). Might be some more hotkeys to be found.

Edd, you take the mystery out of the repairs. No cut aways and it is magically done. High respect on how you show everything. Highs, lows, no starts. This is why people love your channel. Your honest and real. Keep it up.

Honestly, I'm very much looking forward to all the fabrication work when replacing the rotted out bits under the car. John better help with it though!

This may turn out to be Edd's most epic repair yet! I'm going to watch every minute of him fixing this one! Crazy!

Great episode Edd, CGI seems it was straight outta red dwarf, love the bouncy tire for added effect.

I love this long list lol In fact i had the same experience with the german version of the MOT the HU (Hauptuntersuchung / Main examination). I once had an Omega, bought it for 200€ drove it 2 years and wanted a new HU.. ( In germany we got 3 big companies doing the HU. The TÜV, the DEKRA and GTÜ) first i drove to the TÜV and i got list with 30+ problems. So i wanted to test how similar the organisations are and drove to the DEKRA. Again i got a list 30+ problems. NOT ONE was noted by the TÜV, so i got 60 completly different problems .... so i drove to the GTÜ, a few days later i was handed the report .... it had TWO words! "dispose car" So i said to the owner of the workshop "Keep the car and i take the VW Yetta over there for free" He agreed and i got another used car

I know for a fact most gear heads were watching the WD solely just for Edd. So it's not surprising Edd's channel is like a gazillion times more entertaining than the whole seasons of wheeler dealers ever was! Keep it up good chap!

I like the fact that there's still single-frame messages hidden in the video, such as "the admission" John forgot about... :P

Jo, I'm happy that John will keep his Rover an givi it (with your help) back to the glory and emotional days keeping all the exterior's personality and doing a fine work under it. It give me memories of my old 1984 Renault 6 GTL that I have since 2018 and I did a lot of work on it.

Love the mention of Binky and the boys at Bad Obsession. Nice one Edd 👍🏻

I suspect this will could be Edds most viewed video so far .... I have been waiting for this moment for weeks..

You can't put a price on memories when you can afford to fix it to a safe state for the driver, occupants and all others on the road. I can certainly understand that a moderate restoration that keeps the character of the car and the memories, dents, scratches and all is in order. better than leaving it to rot out any further where it can no longer be brought back to life.

By the time this heap of scrap is roadworthy there will be only 50% of the original vehicle left .It was obvious from the off it was a major rebuild but that amount of time and energy should only be used on a good classic car and this Range Rover is far from that .However watching Ed do his magic is really entertaining and a real joy to watch.

@@kay110 I sort of understand it with the automatic wheel shaker plates that aren't very kind to Kingpins etc, and a lack of understanding from some younger testers that some vehicles never had a handbrake that applied in 3 clicks or less than 1" of play in the steering, but mostly it's silly

Not really. You still have a legal obligation to make sure that your vehicle is road-worthy. An MOT is just a certificate to say that on that day the car met the requirements of the test. Cars can (and do) pass MOTs that are literal death traps because the failure points are hidden under plastic panels...!

Having restored my own Vw beetle which was my first car, I relate fully to the sentimental attachment us men make to our cars. More than corrosion ridden death traps, they contain memories and sentimentality that cannot be replaced. I hope this one makes it back on the road, and you make the grumpy MOT tester eat his words. Great stuff as always, Ed.

Hi, Edd, I'm from Russia, 2 months ago I bought a 1996 Land Rover Discovery with a diesel 300 engine, It's a great car, but now I want a first-generation Range Rover with a V8 engine. Gasoline costs half a pound. so you can drive. Obviously he's going to fix it. Ed has been educating us for years on how to fix classics and a lot of people will have aging vehicles/future classics which they want to save but not necessarily have the skills or maybe the funds to send it off to a specialist. If he hits that button I'll ram his orange up his exhaust pipe.

Another great episode! Great to see it getting restored to roadworthiness, not get a nut and bolt restoration. They will always be workhorses in fancy dress. I get that people do it, but this should be used as it was meant to be used I think. Can't wait to see you get the funk out and weld up that frame. Geoffrey Croker did a great video on how to do it twice on his Land Rover, might be some good inspiration. ;) Some great acting from John as well, usually people are so nervous on camera, he was so natural!

Soup Classics did one, let's have another. Will be great content, specially with Edd doing it.

Edd also likes going for strange records; being the only car mod longer than Binkie would be just up his tree! And for good reason, I'm quite sure he knows the burglars Nik and Richard! Who have one of the last MG super car chassis stashed away if they live long enough to finish Binkie! FR

I'm big into sentimental items too but i think there's a point where you have to move on especially when it gets to the level of work needed to restore

This Range Rover series has been my favourite on your channel so far. I don't know why. Maybe because I have sentimental value with these old trucks too. I hope you keep wrenching on this classic!

Anyone else would simply say the Range Rover is scrap. But when a man has a bond, love and a sentimental attachment. I fully understand why he would do anything to save it.

John and you have awesome chemistry on-screen - hopefully we'll see him around more?

I would have suggested the "rat rod" way of doing it but do put a better engine into it and set it up for a light offroader/overlander rig, maybe a camel trophy clone, and add air lockers into the front and rear ends or at least lsd's

bloody hell, only £40 in my local pub, daylight robbery.....

I owned a 1995 Range Rover. It was one thing after another. Having said that, I loved that car. The problem was - my local mechanic was in over his head, and the dealership were thieves (IMO). I just couldn't afford to own it anymore! I am really enjoying watching these videos though. I love watching the repairs and the fact that I'm not paying for them. So, I vote for restoration to make it safe but, keep it all its dings and blemishes and original paint and everything. The goal: I want to see John and Edd take it off-roading!

GET A GOOD FRAME OFF A DONNER !! CHEAPER WAY TO GO !!

Obviously financially not a good idea but heart rules the brain, remove body from chassis, replace chassis with new zinc coated one and take it from there.

I thought i had seen the best of Ed China on Wheeler Dealers, but this brings it to another level for us Petrol Heads..

I feel identified with this episode! I am restoring an old rusted 1980 vw golf, please Edd restore the Land Rover!!! emotions over wallet...

I am surprised Edd took the risk of driving it on the road bearing in mind the condition of the front steering and brakes, anyone going under that vehicle would have seen the oil contamination on the discs and said **** that and would have refused to drive it. Throw in the corrosion near the seat belt mounting points and a moderate collision where the brakes failed could have seen you ejected via the windcsreen in the seat! I know Edd built a cheap ejector seat for TG but that would have been even more cheaper and far more lethal.

What a useful video. Thanks for illustrating all the common issues that might cause an older car to fail its MOT In my case, a 25 year old car with potential fails due to corrosion within 30cm of suspension mountings......I was wondering whether to save it or scrap it, but since your video is promising explosions as an alternative, I'll watch to the end.

I can imagine what you would have said Edd if Mike had rolled up outside the garage door with that one on Wheeler Dealers....l

@@user-kc1tf7zm3b it does have value in that loads of jobs can be demonstrated on just one vehicle but I do wish your skill and valuable time could be spent on an L322 like mine to help to complete a great example of the 3.6. Mine has a little rust on the rear arches in the normal place to finish and it's boss. Thanks Edd.

@@gtek8021 For just about everyone else with a moribund and decrepit vehicle there is only one sane and rational choice: scrap the vehicle, and, buy something much newer. The true restoration cost at market value would be utterly ruinous. But, this is a TV show at the end of the day, so one primary purpose this restoration project is to simply garner viewers. Business is business. Edd China does not work for free.

Most of the rust is on the chassis and that is a straightforward body off (relatively easy to do with these cars), weld & repair. So, very far from being scrap. I'm glad a lot of people don't take your opinion. :D

This is exactly what I’m looking forward to seeing as I’m going to be restoring a 1990’s discovery 1 to monster truck it for some serious abuse. Quite possibly the first time I’ve ever seen Ed not get any tools out. But that said. The coming weeks will be interesting and very informative know doubt. Thanks buddy.
