Your instructions are fantastic and easy to follow. The problem is windows 10. It is a broken operating system. I never had issues like this with windows 7. This is so time consuming and a waste of valuable time. I have been looking into a Linux operating system. Once I know enough about it, I am deserting Windows for good

First, this vid got me the workaround to fix my issue of not being able to perform updates anymore. Thank you! Suggestions: you are very knowledgeable and competent with solving issues but please to slow down on your explanation. It is difficult for non-tech Savvy people to follow the directions. I had to pause the vid so many times and rewind it so that I could catch important things that I was missing. Also, it would help to have a much larger display of the items being pointed out to be selected from that you are describing. At some points I actually had to pause the screen and get a magnifying glass out to see what it was that you had selected or typed in. But, once I did, I did get my system fixed properly. Again, thank you so much because yours was the only one that fixed it. I ended up reloading win 10 though to fix the issue. None of the previous steps worked.

Steps six and seven did the trick for me. Step six fixed some error successfully. In-place upgrade worked, now fully up-to-date. Steps 1-5 didn't help but I tried each one in sequence. Thanks.

congratulations for tutorials! I do not think to lost one your tutorials in last time. I learned a lot about how to use windows following your tutorials and thank you for that!

I have been trying to install 1803 all day today and been faced with my system getting stuck at 94% on the windows update screen after the system reboots to install the update. I have ran the troubleshooter; I have tried to do an in-place install of Windows 10 1803; I have run both `sfc /scannow` and `DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth` to no avail. I am running Windows 10 Pro 17133.1. The weird thing is it says I am on 1803, but Windows 10 will say I need to update to 1803. Any thoughts would be appreciated, Brian! Thanks!

Excellent. Restore health worked and my laptop is running like new. Luckily I had a shortcut to cmd Administrator saved on the desktop as it was the only way to access it. Start ups were slow afterwards and the temptation was to hard boot but I desisted and eventually windows opened, so just leave it alone. Great fix for many issues as no exe files were working. Many thanks.

Very nice video. I have tried all these things in the past, even a clean install of Windows (which took forever with my slow DSL connection). My problem is my Windows Update used to work fine, but started giving an error message of, _"We couldn't check for updates, because you aren't connected to the Internet. Make sure you have a cellular data or Wi-Fi connection and try again."_ I use DSL, so I don't know how to make it stop telling me it can't see a WiFi connection...because I don't use WiFi :) I even had a Microsoft tech remotely take over my screen and fiddle with stuff, but he couldn't figure it out either. Like I said, the update tool used to work fine, but with the last update in Oct I think, I started getting this error message. Quite a bugger.

Great video. I got a corrupt internal system registry on the DISM and sfc. Ran a chkdsk /r C: (will offer to run on restart - took 4+ hours) to fix the corrupted registry then rerun the DISM and sfc as outlined in this video and then reboot and run Settings => Windows Update as normal.

Its always the way.

So I have windows 10 Verizon 1803 and I'm not sure which update to download? Do I download the latest update or do I download the first update on list? Or do I download all of the updates on list very confused about which update to download please help

it says "windows does not have access to the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate access rights for the item"

Weird.....I have the 1803 version, but it tells me that Windows can't install important updates.....

I found an article saying to change to Google's DNS settings for your network, and for whatever reason it finally found new updates. Can't guarantee it will work for anyone but, it worked for me after spending over 2 hours trying everything I could find on repairing windows updates. I changed both the (IPv4/IPv6) but it varies. I suppose you could use cloudflares DNS as well.

All you need to do is stop windows update in services wait 1 min close all open windows and shut down computer, re-start comp go to windows update it should now say that the computer has stopped, open windows services again and restart windows update wait a little and hey windows starts to update again!!!easy fix.

I tried this and it did not work. I had to do a complete window 10 install. It's all ok now. I must have had corrupted filed in the Window update section. Problem solved Thanks for your advice anyway @@vinnypassmore5657

A similar question, If I have a laptop that came with Windows 7 and I upgraded to Windows 10,and I have an issue and need to reinstall windows; what happens if I reinstall Windows 7 instead of downloading the media creation tool and reinstalling Windows 10?

I didn’t see one procedure that was missing which is deleting the Software Distribution folder after stopping the WU, bits, and crypto services then starting them following a reboot. I’ve used this a few times to solve Windows Update issues. If you look around people have written scripts (.bat) files to do all this automatically.

Umm the update is downloaded and it says it only needed for a reboot but after the reboot the update is not happening

You are my go-to tech person, so I would be curious to know if you've covered this issue before and, if you have, steer me towards a tut you've done(?). I'm having issues with Windows 10 being unable to complete updates and undoing the changes it had made. Of course, I can still use my laptop, I'm just worried about the missing updates. The issue is starting to drive me crazy. I have an HP Pavilion which came with preinstalled Windows 10. It's been just fine, updates-wise, until about a couple of weeks ago. I wound back to a previous backup in the naïve hope this would sort it out. Don't know if this action was a help or a hindrance. Can you help? Apologies to everyone currently rolling their eyes at this request. Be patient and be kind :o)

Chris, Windows compress the old version of the system and put the new one, in fact, all the your old version of Windows are still in your computer. That´s because if you don´t like the new version, you can comeback to the old one. I don´t understand this option, because they don´t give support to the old versions, so is a very stupid madness.

I did everything and finally "download tool now", which also failed. Also problems with HP printer and a corrupted recycle bin
