Five Ramadan Iftar Meals Around the World

1.6 billion Muslims are celebrating Ramadan around the world. As this holy month comes to a close, families around the world are preparing their last iftar meals to break their daily fasts. Venture into the kitchen of five Muslim women preparing food for their families in five different countries, from India to Syria to the United States. Many are cooking recipes handed down to them from their mothers, relying on memory and instinct rather than measuring cups or spoons to prepare the perfect, flavorful dish. Though none of these women have met one another, there is a bond of tradition and global community that connects them.

I am a Hindu but every year I wait for this holy month as my mother's best friend happens to be a muslim. She always sends iftar to our home. Even during lockdown she sent it at our place. 💚💚💚💚🙏🙏. Love is powerful as it sees no boundaries and religions. May Allah 🙏protect and bless people of Syria so that they can celebrate this holy month of Ramadan with same spirit and joy like before.

Why don’t they ever include west/East African Muslims. Or even Bosnia. Islam is more diverse than this. And I’m interested to see how other Muslims celebrate too.

Ramadan is all about happiness and togetherness, but the story of Syria is disheartening. May Allah, bless them and strengthen them.

I am a Hindu. So in 2018, I was in Delhi, during the holy month of Ramadan. I was visiting my uncle there. So I happen to visit Jama Masjid one day, just before the fourth call of prayer. I was more interested in the architecture and culture. But when i was there, and the fourth call of prayer happened, the whole masjid (mosque) lit up, and I also joined my hands in solidarity and I wished for something. And That wish came true next month. So its true when they say all your wishes come true in this holy month...Its true.

I am an orthodox jew, I see certain similarities between our two religions. This video was a very nice and warm documentary about another religion that is close to mine. May we only see peace between our two peoples.

The Syrian story broke my heart. At iftar time I love to be around my family eating together and I can't imagine it without them. Eid must be even worse for them.
