Five Minute Histories: LGBTQ Heritage Part 2, Gertrude Stein and Harry Gladding

Happy Friday! We are finishing off the week with Part 2 of our LGBTQ Heritage series. This one features Gertrude Stein and Harry Gladding. We will see you on Monday!
This is our series called "Five Minute Histories." Each day, we’ll record a short video about a different historic place in Baltimore and post it on our Facebook page and website. We are honoring Governor Hogan’s request and are doing this from home.

I’m glad these vids are still up! My daughter and I moved to Bmore from NC. These short history videos are really helpful in learning about the area! Thanks!!

Harry Lee and Tim did entertain royally. Some of the famous people who frequented their parties were Wallis Simpson with her husband the abdicated king Edward VIII and Liberace. Wallis' family and the Gladding's were close family friends.

I wsh you would do five minutes on the oldest gay bar in Baltimore, Leon's (at Park and Tyson), which I suspect may be one of the oldest gay bars in the US. I "came out," as it were there in September of 1968. I recall seeing Harry Gladding there once, wearing a white fur coat, with several young men. If memory serves me correctly, they drove up in a white Rolls.
