3/4 of the original V. Fudge still kicking out the jams! Seen them a few times - always deliver the goods.

Got the 45rpm 12" reissue of the first album. It sounds gigantic.

Would absolutely love to hear about Ornette Coleman... The Shape of Jazz is a touchstone of my life.

The Ornette encounter was quite something. It was around the time of a live performance + screening of Naked Lunch in London.

Thanks Mark! Speaking of counting in, I always wondered why when Dale counted in with you and the Melvins, it was always 1-2-3-rest.

Thanks, Mark! Great video. What do you think about Dale Crover (as a drummer)? I mean, I think it's unanimous that he is considered one of the great rock drummers of the last decades (including for me), but for being a bandmate and having a vast and diverse musical knowledge, you would include Dale as one of the greats. and most important drummers of the last few decades (technically and musically speaking)?

Thank you Pedro ! Dale was really fun to play with. He had a great asymmetrical approach that is singular to himself. He's a major component of what gives the Melvins their musical personality. Dale is a musical player, and he has that gift over a majority of drummers who just keep the beat. Music is not a contest even though there may be some confusion about that ! I wish Dale well in his recovery from his physical issues.

Hi Mark. I stumbled on Gene Palma in a New York street when I was there for a couple of days in the late 1970's. Playing for tips on just a snare drum, he announced the style of each drummer in quick succession Gene Krupa Louis Bellson etc. His precision was astounding.

Epic ! He probably played 8 hours a day...that's how you get that way.

Good Afternoon, Mark. I hope you're doing well. Recently, KZread recommendations brought the band Spirit to my attention. Their drummer, Ed Cassidy, used two very large drums on his kit that reminded me of Dale Crover's gong bass drum, and, Chris Slade from AC/DC when he had large, mounted drums during The Razor's Edge era. Any familiarity and/or thoughts about Spirit and Ed Cassidy, Randy California? -Jebus McShmebus

Spirit is one of the greatest underrated bands, aside from the Stairway to Heaven debacle...they made really great records. Absolutely worth spending time with !

I need to do a video on Liszt. Incredible player, composer,, and also the inventor of modern music. His late music prefigures the second Viennese School completely.
